Work Text:
Papers neatly scattered on your desk and lap. You type with one hand and the other takes the last sip of coffee from a white mug. On the screen in front of you, a long spreadsheet needed to be filled stared back at you. You place the mug back down with a sigh; wishing for a pick me up while you drown in this boring work. A wish that was almost instantly granted. A knock came from your door. There in the doorway was Hank, your boyfriend. He wore a white lab coat, his chest was bare, Navy shorts with yellow trim, and of course a smile.
“Hank!” A beaming grin filled your face seeing him.
“Is this a bad time? I wanted to show you something.” He stepped into the room while he fiddled with his hands. Hank moved to your side, almost hovering over you.
“No, no. I need a break, actually.” You pushed back from the desk while moving papers around, trying to make sure you don’t lose your place when you get back. Before you could sit up he kissed the side of your head.
“Good…” His voice lingered as he took your hand, and pulled you out of the chair. He led you to his lab down below the manor.
You started to question him, “What did you want to show me, Hank?” He only replied with a chuckle and a “You’ll see.” Whatever he wanted to show you was a secret.
Hank took you to a side room connected to his lab, his testing room. A room divided by a wall with a large window. This room was often used for other’s to safely observe experiments done by Hank. He opened the door, gesturing for you to go in first into the dark room. Your head jerked around trying to see what he could have wanted to show you. There you saw the room only lit by small candles and rose petals had been thrown about.
“Hank?” You softly let out far to stun from this romantic gesture to say more. He moved past you reaching behind a machine. There he revealed a large bouquet filled with a large range of flowers.
“...(y/n) take these please.” His hands shook while placing them into yours. There were so many flowers; Sunflowers, daisies, roses, peonies, baby breath, and more. So lost in admiring the flowers you didn’t notice Hank fell to a single knee. To get your attention he whispered your name once more. Eyes shooting down to him from hearing your name. You gasped, and clung the flowers close to your chest while you watched him. Hank’s hand reaches into his coat pocket, pulling out a red velvet ring box.
“This has been on my mind a lot lately,” He began to speak with a shaky voice. He lifted the box with both hands towards you. The box looked so small in his giant blue hands. “I can’t get you off my mind, (y/n). You’re everything to me. I wanted to give you something to show you how much I need you and want you in my life. This ring was my grandmother’s. I want you to have it. Please (y/n), take it and be mine… Forever and always…” His eyes started to tear up. Hank’s heart was beating fast, terrified of you rejecting him.
Your eyes started to water and flow. Covering your mouth with a hand, trying to muffle happy sobs. Knees starting to shake from shock. Taking most of your energy to stay standing. Not able to get the words out you start to messily bobbing your head up and down in a yes motion. Before Hank could catch you, you fell to your knees in front of him. The flowers slipping out of your other hand in the fall. The open hand now joins the other covering your mouth as you continue to cry in shock. Hank pulls you into a hug, gripping you tightly. Digging your face into his neck, and your hands now pull on his coat. A muffled yes was all you could muster for now.
“If I didn’t know better I would start thinking you’re not happy with me…” Hank said while softly petting your head. You softly punch his chest in a playful manner. Pulling away from his chest, you look up with him with big puffy eyes, quivering lips, and a red face. Still trying to find words to speak but Hank spoke instead. Wiping away your tears. “Please don’t cry, (y/n). I love you, please don’t cry.”
“Hank!” You softly hit his chest again. You took a gulp of air. “I can’t believe you! I was just working a minute ago. How was I supposed to see this coming?”
“You would have seen it coming if I did it any other way, my dear. I knew you would be shocked but I didn’t anticipate for you to cry this much.” He said with a soft chuckle. “No more tears now. Okay?” You nodded your head while he took your left hand. There he placed a gold ring on you. A vintage piece with a ruby in the center and two smaller diamonds surrounding it. The fit was loose.
“Oh, Hank… It’s beautiful.” You admire the ring while speaking. Finally finding the right words. “Oh, yes of course, Hank. A million times yes.” Tears started to flow again. He took you closer to him, cupping your face bringing you into a kiss.
