Work Text:

It’s mid-afternoon on a bright Sunday when Teru finally finishes his chores. He throws himself down on the couch, letting out a long sigh as a waning sunbeam hits him straight on the chest. He just needs two minutes to rest his eyes before he has to get started on dinner for his ever-hungry family of five.

Only two minutes… Just two…… Then he can get started………

His breathing slows as the wind whispers through their open balcony door, gentle against the wind chimes out on the back porch.

…15 minutes later, slow and careful footsteps patter down from upstairs. Soon after, three young faces poke out from the hallway.

“Is Papa asleep?” A girl with sharp dark green hair, the youngest yet tallest of the group, asks in a whisper, glancing down at her siblings.

“I think so…” a boy with spiky, jet black hair, the middle child, responds, standing between the other two.

“Good. I’m gonna win today,” a girl with wavy green hair, the oldest yet shortest of the three, boasts.

“Tatsu, you always say that and then you never win,” the boy hisses.

“You’re just jealous, Porcupine Head,” Tatsumaki shoots back, then tilts her head up to her sister. “What are your bets, Fubuki?”

Fubuki half shrugs. “I dunno, he hasn’t been asleep very long. He probably already heard us anyway. You will both lose.”

That snaps the siblings’ mouths shut and they all inch back around the wall, waiting for a few minutes, listening for any sounds suggesting their Papa might be waking up.

Nothing happens and they all poke their heads out again.

“I bet I could get closer. I’m not an esper, so I’m invisible,” Saitama mutters quietly.

“That’s stupid. I bet you won’t get within 5 meters of Papa,” Tatsumaki mutters back.

Saitama’s eye twitches and he starts to inch forward across the wooden floor, avoiding each squeaky spot he knows of, to kick off the game. He lifts his feet with great care, toes barely touching the wood as he maneuvers to the couch.

Once he passes the 5 meters mark, Saitma turns towards his sisters and grins at them. He mouths, “I’m awesome” to them.

Tatsumaki bristles, but keeps her powers in check as she watches and mouths back “You’re just lucky.” Saitama shrugs before he starts to inch forward again.

The goal of their game is to see how close each of them can get to their Papa, who is notorious for being a light sleeper. The winner would be whoever manages to touch Teru before he notices, which none of the siblings has managed to do yet. They don’t remember who came up with the game first, or when they started playing it, but anytime one of them notices Teru napping, they all rush to see who can get the highest score.

Teru is laying down sideways on the couch, one arm flopped over his eyes and the other dangling off the cushions, mouth open. To Saitama, he looks to be dead asleep, as his chest rises and falls slowly. The boy slowly maneuvers himself around to the front of the couch, pausing as he debates his next step.

This is the closest Saitama has ever gotten, now only four meters away from his goal. He turns to look at his sisters with a proud huff. Fubuki gives him an encouraging thumbs up. Tatsumaki flips him off.

Saitama glares back and sticks out his tongue as he directs his attention back to his Papa. He tries to soften his breath and make himself move as quiet as possible. He slowly lifts his foot, appendage dangling as he prepares his next step—

—When he is suddenly swept into the air.

He yelps as the world shifts and he is hanging upside down, gold energy fluttering around him. Arms lock around his middle and he is peppered with kisses all over his face.

“You lose again, Tama!” Teru teases.

“Ewwww, PAPAAA!” Saitama yells, wiggling around in the grasp. “Stoooop, no, I don’t want kisses!”

Teru chuckles, spinning them right side up. “That’s your reward! You got much closer than last time! Buuut,” he turns to the girls who are still watching around the corner, blue eyes glinting. “I heard you in the hallway before you even got into the living room.”

“HA!” Tatsumaki yells, bounding into the room. “See, Papa let you get close! This doesn’t count, I’ve still come the closest!”

Saitama tilts his head back, still tight in his Papa’s grasp. “That’s not fair!”

“Actually, I think Fubuki’s come the closest,” Teru comments, floating to the floor and finally letting Saitama go.

Saitama and Tatsumaki turn towards Fubuki and she hides her hands behind her back, a grin on her face. “You both hadn’t come home from school yet and Papa fell asleep with Dad on the couch. I thought I might as well see how close I could get. I got to 3.2 meters.”

Teru walks over and lifts Fubuki into his arms, spinning her around as she giggles. “My smart little cookie! You figured out the shortcut.”

“Shortcut!?” Tatsumaki yelps, hands in fists. “Wait, what shortcut, tell me!”

“Not telling,” Fubuki teases as Teru continues to spin her.

Teru finally sets his daughter down and reaches over to ruffle Tatsumaki’s hair, who glares in protest. “It has to do with your Dad. But you’ll figure it out, sweetheart.”

“Ugh don’t call me that, Papa,” Tatsumaki mutters, shoving his hand off as he chuckles.

Teru starts to make his way to the kitchen, stretching his arms above his head. “I need to get started on dinner soon. Now, your next challenge is to get your Dad up. He took a nap before I did and is probably still asleep upstairs. Whoever can get him up quickest wins.”

There is a pause before the three scramble out of the room, feet pounding up the stairs and Teru hears a cacophony of shouts coming from his bedroom. Then a pulse of purple and blue energy, seemingly shocked at first before folding inward, as if it’s hugging the entire house.

Teru hears a distant whine of “Nyooo, Dad, no more hugs!” from Saitama and Tatsumaki. He chuckles, his own aura reaching out to gently caress the now awake energy of his husband, yellow and purple touching in a gentle kiss.

He rolls up his sleeves and ties back his blond hair into a high ponytail as he starts to get out ingredients for dinner. He hears shouts and giggles coming from upstairs, a smile never leaving his face.
