Hide and Seek

Summary:

Jolyne Kujo is, by far, the best seven year old hide and seek player. In her house.

Notes:

This is a short drabble I wrote based on the prompt "Be quiet, you're gonna give me away." It's short but cute.

Work Text:

The house was quiet all but for the sound of tiny pattering feet running up and down the halls, as well as huffs of frustration every now and then as objects were moved around. Kakyoin smiled to himself, shifting uncomfortably under his daughter's bed with his husband crammed next to him. Said husband was somewhat lodged between the floorboards and bed slats and every time Kakyoin looked over at him, trying to keep all his body parts hidden under a kindergarteners twin bed, he covered his mouth for the wave of chuckles that came over him. He looked away as Jotaro went to glare at him again, the dark haired mans hat falling over his face as it hit the underside of the wood above them. Kakyoin snorted.

“Oi, be quiet, you’re gonna give me away.”

The ginger rolled his eyes as he scooted closer to the wall next to him, allowing more space for Jotaro.

“You didn’t have to hide with me.” He responded.

His husband looked at him with a slight pout. “But Jolyne always finds me first. And you’re better at hide and seek.”

Kakyoin made an exasperated face, smiling despite it. “Maybe that’s because I don’t follow you around the house and hide in the same room- and I’m not a giant baby.” He said, bopping Jotaro on the nose.

The larger man grumbled, going to reach around to his back pocket for a cigarette like he did every time he didn’t want to retort to Kakyoin, before he paused and stopped himself from smoking under their young daughters bed. Kakyoin really didn’t want to explain what to her what the smell was. Though so far Jotaro was doing an exceptionally good job at not smoking in front Jolyene, if not just for her health but because of how impressionable she was. Trying to explain why daddy doing something bad didn’t mean it was okay wasn’t a conversation he looked forward to having in the future. The family already had a problem with picking up bad habits when the girl was just learning to speak. It was a bad day for Jotaro Kujo when the two parents received a call asking why their child was telling the other toddlers to ‘fuck off’.

“I’m not a baby.” Jojo responded instead, fixing his hat with a scowl.

Kakyoin nodded apathetically, rubbing the other man's arm before pulling him closer for a soft kiss. Partly pulling him closer because he could hear Jolyne stomping down the hall again past her room, and he didn’t want to be found just because his enormous husband couldn’t fit all the way under a bed. Noriaki Kakyoin took play time very seriously.

“Daddy! Papa!” They could hear their daughter shout from the other end of the house.

Thankfully though she didn’t sound upset, if anything she seemed to be having a lot of fun with not finding her fathers. Kakyoin knew that’s just how it was playing games with the Jolyne, if either of her dads went easy on her in tag or hide and seek or even, god forbid, tic tac toe she would get upset. In a way he was worried that she would become angry after losing so many times but it seemed to only fuel the child more. Not to mention she had one upped the red head all on her own on various occasions, though he’d never admit how many to Jotaro.

“Should we come out?” Jojo asked beside him.

“Let’s wait five more minutes, and if she still can’t find us then we’ll come out.” Kakyoin murmured back.

Because despite his rough face and difficult time expressing his feelings Jotaro dotted on his daughter like no other, though it came out in it’s own way. Often he wouldn’t show these feelings to Jolyne herself for fear of smothering her, and that one day she would become resentful and lash out at him the way Jotaro had done to his own mother. Not that the Kujo didn’t love his mother, but he readily admitted to be a terrible teenager. Though if Jolyne did any of what Jotaro had done when he was young Kakyoin would find it rather fitting karma, but he highly doubted the sweet girl could ever do something like that.

Jotaro nodded and gave the half smile that Kakyoin had fallen in love with, burying his face in his lovers curly hair and pressing kisses across his head.

“You’re so good to her.” Jotaro mumbled, pressing his lips lazily down the man's face. Kakyoin closed his eyes happily to the domestic gesture, leaning into Jotaro’s shoulder and laying his head onto it.

“I’d hope so, I need to be a good father.”

He felt Jotaro’s shoulders rumble in a small chuckle. “Why? In case I’m not?”

“No, it’s not like that,” Kakyoin responded as he pushed the others shoulder. “But she doesn’t have her mother with her anymore. I want to be able to fill that place she left.” He sighed.

Then he felt large arms attempting to wrap around him, it was hard in the already cramped space but Jotaros arm managed to wriggle its way around Kakyoin. He cracked his eyes open at the movement, nudging closer to his lover.

“Hey,” Jotaro said. “You don’t have to fill some place she left behind. You’re here, and you’re her father- I wouldn’t want anybody else to raise our child but you.” He said with a kiss to Kakyoin’s cheek, lightly grabbing hold of the mans chin to turn the pretty red head towards him and bring their lips together lovingly.

Kakyoin grinned into it, resting his hand on Jotaros cheek where it was warm and flushed, somewhat due to the hot area around them, but also because Kakyoin knew his husband still got flustered with acts of affection sometimes.

Though the kiss was ruined the moment they felt the weight of a seven year old girl flopping on the bed above them, Jotaro letting out a grunt as their teeth clashed and Kakyoin reeling and pressing almost flat against the ground where he held the back of his head. Seconds later the blanket that hung off the side of the bed, and worked double as a cover for the twos hiding place was ripped away. Replacing it was an upside down Jolyene grinning proudly at them.

“Found you dad!” She giggled happily, crawling off the bed and down to the floor, staring underneath. “Where’s papa though?”

Kakyoin chuckled from his spot behind Jotaro, where pressed against the ground and paired with the fact that there was next to no room between Jojo and the bed, he was basically invisible.

“AH, papa!” The girl scrambled, trying to pull Jotaro out with tugs on his arm. He sighed and scooted out, making noises at all the dust on his clothes. Once dislodged Jolyene crawled under and tapped her other father on the arm.

“I got you.” She gleamed at him.

Kakyoin smiled at that, still rubbing his head as he worked his way out as well.

“You sure did!” He said once he was sitting against the small frame of the bed. “How’d you do it?” He asked with over enthusiasm.

The young girl clammered onto his lap, where Kakyoin wrapped his arms around her, blowing raspberries on her cheek as she settled. Jotaro sat atop the bed, ruffling his husband's hair as he watched. Jolyene pushed his face away, sticking out her tongue.

“Well, I knew where you both were the whole time! But I didn’t want daddy to feel bad because he chose a bad hiding spot.”

At that Jotaro feigned offense, placing his hand over his chest with a scoff. “I didn’t choose the hiding spot, your papa did.”

In response Jolyene brought a finger to her chin, pretending to think it over. “Mmmmmmmmm, I don’t believe that.” She said, hopping off her father's lap and out the door. “Come on! Round two.”

Jotaro pouted once more with a “tch” and pulled his hat down to avoid eye contact with his now smirking husband.

“You still got found first.” Kakyoin said as he patted Jotaro’s knee, getting up to join their daughter for another game.
