Chapter Text
The ethereal pink sky stayed motionless yet again at the presence of the beast of sloth, its soft structure being embraced by the citizens of paradise.
Sugarfly cookie found herself laughing with the hoard of angels within paradise, she was delighted to be welcomed. How could she not? For the first time in her life, her wings and skin were full of colour—vibrant colours that shone in the sun rays, giving off a glittery effect that truly captured her personality. This was who she wanted to be.
Sugarfly cookie strolled around the paths of the garden. A warm sweet smile could be seen on everyone’s faces, every citizen was filled with joy and it made her even more happy.
“Good day to you too, Fruit Stack cookie!” She bowed her head lightly to a friend, keeping her words short yet graceful.
“Have a good day too, Sugarfly cookie!” Fruit Stack cookie picked up her basket of berries before waving goodbye to the faerie. Another happy day in paradise.
Sugarfly cookie wandered by the river of mulled juice, sitting down by a quiet area to look at her reflection. “Such beautiful wings of mine~” She stroked her wings carefully, feeling the texture of glitter on her fingers. “If only I can repay the bringer of happiness.”
“There’s no need to repay happiness in my garden~” Eternal sugar cookie flew down beside the faerie, a trail of rainbows and mist like clouds following her footsteps. The cookies around her could never resist her beauty. “It’s only an honour to be able to have such glorious wings. Your efforts should not be in vain!” The faerie clasped her hands together, her eyes brightened up at the bringer’s presence.
“Your dedication fills me with joy, my dear. But I must continue my duty as the bringer of happiness~ it is the reason I exist after all.” Eternal sugar cookie smiled at the faerie, putting aside the help in front of her. She strolled towards the flowers on the other side of the stream, grazing them with her hand.
“These flowers are just like my people, we tend to each other and share the happiness between us.” The bringer of happiness turned her eyes to Sugarfly cookie, keeping the warm and gentle expression that she always wore. She plucked the brightest flower from its stem, and with the wave of a hand, a new flower grew in its place. She placed the flower in her hair. “There! If you ever have doubts, this flower will remind you that you’re in my eternal paradise! There’s no need to bother with your worries.”
Sugarfly cookie felt warm in her presence; she happily returned a bow to show her thanks, then she watched the beast wander off into the distance. There was not much she could do either as she listened to the water’s flow. The calm atmosphere of paradise was always present, bringing along a sense of peace for all cookies, it was apart of the happiness they were promised.
Just as Sugarfly cookie planned to leave, her thought was interrupted by a small troublemaker. “Look who’s admiring their wings once more!” Pavlova cookie cooed, he jumped out from behind the faerie and made himself comfortable in the soft bedded grass. Sugarfly cookie held her smile at the new arrival, she sat back down once more beside him.
Pavlova cookie looked very bored, he kicked his little feet on the waters of the stream—they never caused a splash. “You haven’t been spending your day over here the whole time, right? ‘Cause this is boring.” Pavlova cookie turned his head towards the faerie. She paused, replaying the question in her mind again for clearance. “But it’s only noon.” She questioned with much ignorance.
“I was trying to make an exaggeration, of course you have to be so dense…” He sighed, finding less fun in his current situation. The boy leaned backwards to lie on the grass, finding his comfort on the soil. “Hey, you wanna take my shift again? I’m going out tomorrow.” He asked politely. Pavlova cookie waited for Sugarfly to nod, knowing she’d agree with any work he pushed on her anyways, that was one card he had up his sleeve. He hummed as she continued to stay silent after the nod, expecting a question of sorts but getting none.
His eyes darted towards hers, maintaining a moment of eye contact. It wasn’t long before he spoke again. “No questions? No asking where I’m gonna go?” From the tone of his voice, he almost sounded disappointed. “I’m sorry. I just see no point in asking, I never go out there anyways.” Sugarfly cookie leaned forward as she spoke, her face carried an apologetic expression as she reached out towards him.
Pavlova cookie sat up, ignoring the hand she gave him. “That’s the point? You've rarely touched the world. Aren’t you any bit curious?” He teased, leaning in to get the clear response. Sugarfly cookie backed away as the angel got close, feeling surprised at his initiative. She averted her gaze to the side but finally built up a reasonable answer in her heart. “I’m afraid that stories of the outside might change my heart, I can’t betray the bringer of happiness like this.” She said.
The angel rested his head on his hands, he expected that kind of response even though he wanted something more—something different than before. There were barely any excuses if the bringer of happiness was involved.
“How loyal, I feel it now. I have yet to check your heart for a diagnosis!” Pavlova rose up with excitement, one that didn’t match his friend’s. “Ah—there’s no need for that, I’m sure my heart is forever content.” The faerie was quick to deny, leaving behind an even more eager Pavlova.
He raised his arms in front of his face, making a camera pose with his hands and pointed it at Sugarfly. She was less than happy to deal with his antics again, but it’ll have to suffice for now. “Let me see, what kind of love are you hiding away, deep within your heart!” He mumbled to himself. The other wore a smile, posing for his “photo” just to amuse him further—as well as keeping entertainment for herself.
“Aha!” The angel shouted with eagerness, it sounded like he found the exact thing he needed. “Your heart is filled with…happiness and beauty, reflective of the love you have for…the Garden and your wings…” His voice got smaller and smaller with each word that came out his mouth. Pavlova cookie stopped entirely, his eyes fixated on Sugarfly’s; her eyes had yet to pick up the dishearten and pity in his. “I see, you sure do love your wings huh.” He commented.
“Of course! These beautiful pair of golden wings were only granted to me by the bringer of happiness, I have never felt so colourful in my life!” Sugarfly cookie beamed with glee, her expression one of great gratitude and bliss, it sickened the other cookie.
For he knew the truth behind these colourful wings, one that he wasn’t keen on sharing with Sugarfly cookie. It took a few seconds but he finally remembered why her heart was so bright—of course it was the sweet scent of the Garden, how could he have forgotten. The scent of the Garden kept everyone in a trance, even messing up his love diagnosis when faced with a victim of it. But there was nothing he could do to reveal true hearts.
“You better care for these wings then, since it’s coated in syrup, it’s much harder to tend to.” Pavlova cookie couldn’t look her in the eye, resorting to scoffing and crossing his arms instead. Even if Sugarfly cookie could hear it, there was no going back any longer, after all—“You’ve already been consumed by sloth.”
