Work Text:
— Daichi —
“Lift one leg up,” Asahi instructed Daichi, smiling when he felt a hand land on his shoulder for support. He helped Daichi get one leg in a pair of trousers then tapped his other foot in a silent signal to do the same. Daichi stood straighter and pulled them on the rest of the way himself, waiting for the next direction.
“Undershirt,” Asahi informed him and Daichi felt a bundle of fabric pushed into his hands. “Be careful not to knock loose the blindfold.”
Daichi rolled his eyes but did as instructed, pulling the shirt on over his head, careful not to mess up the blindfold. One of Suga’s bright ideas, because surely Asahi wouldn’t have come up with the idea for them to get dressed without being able to see on his own.
“Were you able to get a reservation at that restaurant?” Asahi asked, finishing threading a belt through the loops and fastening it. Daichi knew he was asking out of nerves, wanting to make sure every part of Suga’s birthday went according to plan, as they had already gone over the details multiple times. “Arms out.”
Daichi gave Asahi a kind smile and nodded as Asahi pulled the shirt over one arm, then the other. He let out a soft sigh as he felt deft fingers button the front of his shirt. “I did, for seven o’clock, so we have plenty of time. Unfortunately, I did have to ask Kuroo to pull some strings.” He felt Asahi step away and resisted the urge to rub his eyes with his next statement. “We owe him a favor.”
“Ah,” Asahi muttered and gently placed his hand on the back of Daichi’s neck. He leaned into it, and they stood quietly in the moment, before Asahi pulled away and Daich felt a tie looped around. “Well, hopefully whatever it is won’t be too bad. If Suga was here, he’d probably say Kuroo will save the favor for being bailed out of jail.”
Daichi laughed as he pictured it. “He probably would. Kuroo should know better though. I’m not breaking any laws for him.”
“Of course not,” Asahi agreed as he pulled the tie tight, coming to a perfect stop at the base of his neck. He then tapped Daichi’s arms, who raised them before feeling the weight of a blazer envelop him.
“All done,” Asahi announced with a soft pat against his stomach when finished buttoning the blazer. Daichi then felt him place his hands on his shoulders before running down his arms, intertwining their fingers. Daichi waited patiently for the next instruction, smiling when a gentle pair of lips brushed against his.
— Suga —
Suga bounced into the bedroom a short time later, eyes closed and blindfold held out and at the ready. Someone, presumably Asahi since Daichi should still be wearing his own, took it from his hands and tied it around his head.
“I still don’t understand why we have to be blindfolded,” Daichi grumbled, and Suga thought it sounded like he was sitting on their bed.
“Asahi wanted our clothes to be a surprise as part of the evening!” Suga exclaimed, letting Asahi manipulate him into a pair of trousers. He grinned when Asahi took the opportunity to run his hands down his legs, probably ‘smoothing out the wrinkles’ but Suga knew better.
“I didn’t mean for you to take that as an excuse for you and Daichi to be blindfolded, just that you couldn’t see them before today,” Asahi commented as he clasped a belt around Suga’s waist, letting his hands again linger a moment longer than necessary.
Suga shrugged, though only Asahi would see it. “It’s my birthday. Why not have a little fun?”
“Speaking of fun,” Daichi continued drily from behind him, “Why did you happen to have blindfolds in your “fun” drawer, and why didn’t I know about them?”
Suga felt Asahi lean his head against his stomach and freeze, blushing so hard heat radiated off him. He chuckled and reached down to ruffle his hair before telling Daichi, “I got them to pair with your handcuffs, but I haven’t been able to snag them yet. This came up first.”
“ Koushi .” It had been a long time, maybe twenty-four hours, since he’d last heard Daichi’s captain's voice.
He laughed while Asahi finally recovered and handed him an undershirt. He carefully pulled it on, careful not to dislodge the blindfold. “So, where are we going?”
“I thought you wanted everything about tonight to be a surprise,” Asahi reminded him, tapping his arms. Suga held them out for Asahi to slip a button down shirt on over the undershirt.
He stayed silent for a moment, reveling in the feel of Asahi being so close, feeling his presence surround him like a warm blanket as he buttoned Suga’s shirt.
“Yes, well, I’m feeling a little impatient,” Suga whined, both at the impatience and at the realization that Asahi had stepped away. He put his arms out, trying to grab him back.
“Stop that,” Asahi admonished, somehow dodging his grip (probably because he could see and Suga couldn’t, why had he thought the blindfolds were a good idea?) and looping a tie around Suga's neck at the same time.
Suga pouted but let his arms fall, allowing him to finish tying the tie. He brightened when Asahi touched under his elbow, gently guiding his arms back up so he could drape a blazer around him.
Suga leaned in to smell Asahi’s cologne as he buttoned the blazer, letting out a satisfied hum. Finally, Suga felt a kiss land on his forehead. “All done.”
“Oh, no, you’re not,” Suga managed to get an arm around Asahi’s neck and pulled him in for a real kiss.
“I don’t know what you’re doing over there, but you better not be messing up Asahi’s hard work!” he heard Daichi call from the bed.
— Asahi —
Suga finally let Asahi go so that he could finish dressing for the evening. Afterwards, Asahi helped Daichi stand from the bed and guided him to stand in front of the mirror next to Suga. He positioned them so that they would have the best angle to see all three outfits at once and then stood in position. He marveled at the other two for a moment, unable to stop smiling. He had stayed up late for two weeks to finish, but it was absolutely worth it. Anything was worth it for Daichi and Suga. He took a deep breath and nodded. “Go ahead and remove your blindfolds,” he directed.
Daichi carefully took his off and Asahi watched as he took in the image in front of him, his breath catching, while Suga yanked his off, only to immediately start tearing up. Daichi wore a grey pants and blazer, a maroon shirt, and a black tie. Suga had on black pants and blazer, a grey shirt, and a maroon tie. Asahi stood beside them, finishing the complementing look with maroon pants and blazer, black shirt, and grey tie. Everything had been perfectly tailored, the colors and material carefully matched to show a visible connection between the three of them.
“Asahi, you did an excellent job,” Daichi finally got out, raising his eyes to meet Asahi’s in the mirror. “We look great, thank you.” Asahi felt a warm pride as he watched Daichi and Suga examine the mirror.
The moment broke when Suga clapped his hands, making Asahi jump and Daichi turn to look at him. “We’re missing something!” he exclaimed. “Close your eyes,” he instructed, giving them both a stern glare.
Daichi looked at the abandoned blindfolds in their hands. “You don’t want us to be blindfolded this time?” he asked, but Suga shook his head.
“No, it’s fine. No peeking!” he commanded. Asahi frowned but closed his eyes and he heard Suga run out of the room. What had he missed? He was certain every part of their outfits was there. The last thing would be their shoes, of course, but they wouldn’t wear those in the apartment. He worried at his lip while he played through a mental recording. Everything was accounted for.
A soft scuffling sound signaled Suga’s arrival back into the bedroom. Asahi heard him reach Daichi first and he strained his ears, trying to place what was going on. Daichi gasped and Suga let out a hissed “Shh!” and then Asahi felt him come into his presence.
Suga grabbed Asahi’s left hand and lifted it, playing with his fingers. Asahi smiled as he felt the callouses on Suga’s hand, resisting the urge to close his hand around his and keep him there. Suga finally stilled and then Asahi felt something cold and round slip onto his ring finger.
His eyes shot open and he saw Suga looking at him with a crooked grin. “I told you, no peeking,” he laughed weakly, looking up at Asahi and then over to Daichi. “Do you like them?”
Asahi looked over and saw Daichi with an identical ring on his own ring finger and a look of shock that mirrored his own.
“I-i-t’s your birthday,” Asahi stuttered, peering down at the ring as he felt his eyes get watery, not noticing Suga’s sudden frown.
“We’re supposed to be giving you gifts,” Daichi clarified, coming around to stand close. “But to answer your question, of course we like them, right Asahi?”
Asahi nodded, too emotional to speak. Suga grinned in understanding and threw his arms around Daichi and Asahi, pulling them both into a hug. “Why would I need other gifts when I have you? Why can’t you two just be my presents forever and ever?”
Asahi laughed through his tears as they held each other tight.
