Chapter 1: A little abandoned shop

Chapter Text

Sounds of horns and countless people talking fill the empty building as two men appear out of thin air, bloody and disoriented.Heavy irregular breathing is the first thing Arthur hears, and opening his eyes and sight is not what he expects.

“John?” Arthur calls as he slams his eyes shut overwhelmed. He grasps around carefully finding his bag he grabs the dagger and holding it defensively.

“Arthur..?” A voice from outside his head said, which couldn’t be possible John didn’t have a body. But, after the stone and England and the deal, did Kayne finally fulfill his side of the deal normally?
Slowly Arthur opens his eyes to see around him, it’s a blurry sight but he can make out the most important parts, a old run down store, a window with the bustle of a city, and a large yellow cloak with a human figure beneath it. Well it would be human if not for the tentacles and the sheer height of the body.

Stunned only for a moment before the figure makes a feeble attempt at turning around to face him only to flip back on its (his?) back.

“John…?” Arthur try’s one more time squinting his eyes in the harsh light.
He is answered with a humanoid head turning to face him with a half broken mask and underneath it a human face.
“Arthur!?” A sob comes from both of them as they both scramble to try and hold each other lest this isn’t real.

“ I thought- I saw you die, Arthur, how did we- how did I get a body?”
“I’m just as lost as you”
They both stare in awe around and at themselves; how do you go about life now, where you don’t even know where you are?

“Wait, so you can see?! Arthur this is great I- it’s!” John was practically shaking in happiness but that didn’t cover up the mutual unease.
“ it really is! I just wish we had an idea of where we are, it looks human enough.”
“ and if there were actual people out there would they,” john uses his more human arms and hands to point at himself “.. react kindly on this..?”
“ oh John.. but no you’re right are you sure you can’t do anything like turn invisible or something so we can at least look outside?”
“ maybe.? It’s not like I’ve had the chance.”

Arthur starts to loosen his hug on John lifting his head to get a glimpse of the city outside. It was obvious that it was a large city but the glimpses of cars and people, but besides that he’d have to actually go out to understand anything else.
“I’ll go out, it’s not like I’m defenseless, especially now.”

It’s absolutely obvious that John isn’t happy about this, very obvious actually. His pupils shrink and the look on his face could be compared to a sad stray dog. Getting up Arthur crosses the dusty floor to reach a side door, it’s a faded green with scratches and stains and a bronze handle. Opening it he is met with an alley way with trash and grime covering the ground.
“I will be back in at least five minutes please stay put.”
“… he’s waking up Azathoth what’s the point..?”
Shit
“I- wouldn’t he have done it already? If he was he’d do it immediately”
“So why are we here?”
That’s not something he could answer at all.
“- look John if I’m going to look outside it’ll be now I haven’t seen anything in well about a full year and I’m already getting headache. We’ll talk about it later.”
In the side of Arthur’s vision John shifts as he closes the door.
