Work Text:
Emu was bored.
Not something that happened often, but that’s what laying in bed will do to a girl.
She grabbed her phone and texted her best friends. They always cheered her up. The light of her life.
“Guyyyyyys” She sent. “We should hang out.”
Immediately the others were online. They started a call.
“Emu, we just hung out, remember?” Nene said. “We practiced our next show.”
“But that’s different!” She shouted. “I meant we should hang out somewhere else!”
“I agree!” Emu smiled. Tsukasa always had her back.
“What do you suggest, Emu?” Rui asked. “I could always bring in some of my newer gadgets to test out.”
“NO. No. We should go somewhere.” Tsukasa immediately denied Rui.
“Well, where?” Nene asked.
Emu stared at her ceiling thinking. Small stick-on stars were everywhere. They glowed in the dark. She remembered putting them on the ceiling with her sister’s help. She bought them for Emu at the mall after they got frozen yogurt.
That’s it!
“What about froyo?” She asked. “There’s a place near the park.”
They went silent for a second.
“That’s a good idea, actually.” Nene cut through the silence.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve had some.” Rui agreed.
“I used to get some with Saki all the time!” Tsukasa remembered.
Emu smiled.
“Froyo it is!”

Emu was late.
So was everyone else.
Nene sighed and checked her watch again. They agreed to meet at noon, and it’s 12:20. She was so worried she would be late that she arrived at 11:50. She should’ve known.
She looked up to see Emu and Tsukasa running towards her. They stopped in front of the table, Tsukasa panting with his hands on his knees.
“HI NENE!” Emu yelled, out of breath. Nene smiled seeing her. It was just a habit now.
“Emu, Tsukasa, we were supposed to meet at noon. Where were you?” She asked, more curious than annoyed.
They started their explanations at the same time, then got into a “You go first!” spiral.
Tsukasa cleared his throat. “Fine, I’ll go first. I went down the wrong street and got lost.”
Of course.
“And I couldn’t leave the house until noon. I had to finish my homework.” Emu explained.
“Why didn’t you do it last night?” Tsukasa asked.
“I forgot about it.” Emu gave off a sheepish grin.
Nene shook her head. These two were such a handful, but she wouldn’t give them up for anything.
“Well, at least you guys beat Rui.”

Rui woke up tired, like he did every day.
He had a habit of working on his inventions until 5 in the morning, and last night was no acception.
He yawned as he checked his phone. There were so many notifications from his friends. Why…
Shit. It’s 12:30.
He typed a quick message out. “Sorry guys, traffic stinks, omw.”
There was an instant reply. “You walk there??? Why did you drive??”
He didn’t bother responding and quickly got ready.

“Why is he taking so long…” Tsukasa asked wearily. He didn’t eat before he arrived, so he was starving. He wasn’t alone.
“I’m hungry! Nene, why do we have to wait?” Emu asked sadly. Nene just shook her head. They went through that exchange twice already. Why bother doing it again?
“Hey!” Rui yelled while speed walking toward them. He was a mess, his hair sticking to a certain position. Eye bags were under his eyes. He definitely stayed up too late and slept in.
“FINALLY! HI RUI!” Emu ran towards him and tackle-hugged him.
“Sorry I’m-“
“ENOUGH!” Tsukasa yelled. “Let’s go inside!”
He led the charge into the store. It was teal inside, with white columns and machines lined in the row. A massive topping tray was near the cups, with hundreds of options. Maybe. Tsukasa isn’t the best at math, but there were a lot of options.
The woman at the counter welcomed them in as Emu ran past them. They each got a blue cup before walking to the machine.
“Hmm… what to get…” He thought aloud. Emu instantly went to the chocolate one, filling her cup quickly.
Nene thought next to him before choosing the strawberry-banana mix. Rui got cotton candy.
He finally decided on vanilla.
“Vanilla?” Nene asked. She didn’t know his amazing plan.
He got every single topping available. Rui winced seeing the brownie pieces on top of the mango popping boba, pineapple chunks, and gummy sharks.
Emu was at the counter first. Her froyo was simple: chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate. Hot fudge, chocolate chips, Hershey kisses. She put a couple gummy worms in there as well, probably for the color.
Nene was next. She got banana and strawberry pieces, strawberry syrup, and cheesecake pieces.
Rui didn't get too many toppings. Just a couple of gummy bears and whipped cream.
Tsukasa’s bowl was the heaviest of the group’s. He struggled to place it on the counter. He glanced at Rui’s judgmental glare.
“They don’t weigh it here!” He defended.
They paid and went outside, sitting underneath a striped umbrella.
“Why’d you put gummy worms in yours, Emu?” Rui asked.
“It’s the dirt!” She answered. Good for her.
“I didn’t usually get froyo when I was younger, so I just went with what sounded good.” Nene explained. She then turned to Tsukasa. “Did you usually…” She grimaced at his cup. It was overflowing.
“Nope!” He smiled.
They talked a lot. The next show, school events, his regret at getting every topping, etc.
He sighed. He likes the usually “go go go” dynamic this group has, but it’s nice to relax a bit. A star can’t be continuously preforming, after all. Everyone needs a break sometimes.
Later they’ll travel to the Sekai and tell the vocaloids about their day. Tsukasa will talk to Saki about maybe getting some more froyo as a hangout idea. Nene and Rui will walk home together, and Emu will smile while excitedly talking about her friends to her sister.
For now, they’re just relaxing in the sun, trying to eat their froyo before it melts.
