Raven spiraled through the inky darkness, seeing as clearly as if it were full day, the landscape far below limned in pale silver from the light of the stars. The moon was in hiding, fully dark.
It was his favorite time to fly. He was as hidden as the moon, a darker spot gliding through the night sky, briefly masking the twinkling of a star, barely enough to be noticed. Very few ventured out into this deep darkness. It was a time of prayer, of quiet, of reflection. It was the time of new beginnings, when everything was on the cusp of possibility.
This made it an especially heady time for someone who enjoyed making the impossible seem possible, and Raven dipped and rose through the dark night sky, buoyed on whimsies and wonders, hopes and hints. It was freeing and he made the most of it. All too soon the realities of the world would start pulling him back into their confines. There was never a time Raven disliked flying, but this was definitely the best time, his favorite, seconded by the anticipatory hum of the waning moon that built over days until it was all he could do to stay on the ground.
As he flew, Raven caught the barest glimpse of something just at the edge of his vision. His curiosity piqued, he changed his course to follow it, see where it led. The longer he flew, the warmer it got; the flashes he saw started to feel more familiar, until he recognized the bursts of energy for what they were - a signal from an old friend vying for his attention.
As Raven made his descent, he realized perhaps after many, many moons, it was time for a new beginning for him, as well.
