Chapter 13

It happened again.

When N and V both moved into their new dorm, they were moved at the end of a corridor with 5 other neighbors, a pair of brothers in a dorm on the wall in front of them, named Keanu and Alex Reece, two very old brothers who were retired security guards for another bunker.

Then a family of three known as the Dewolfes, with the father Ken, who N knew because he had gotten to meet him during a game of cards with Khan and his friends, and then Siri and their little baby Maria, both V and N didn’t know much about those two, because they hardly got to see them, but they had given a fun fact by Lizzy, that being apparently the two parents were apparently the “popular seniors” last year, with Ken being a jock and Siri being the cheer captain, and they had actually ended up adopting the baby at the second semester when her parents had went missing, Which N personally thought was insane, because that was pretty young to be taking care of a baby. Despite that, he never racked his brain about, wasn’t like he was the one taking care of the baby.

Currently one of their neighbors; Siri was up at 11, something very out of the ordinary considering how tight of sleep schedule she had since her and Ken had a baby.

Siri, a short drone with long curly hair, colored with light shades of purple and sky blue eyes paced around the living room, her phone placed to her head, waiting for her husband to answer her call for the fifteenth time, once more it went to voicemail, and as well once more she left a message

“Can you please answer my calls? I don’t know if this is a joke or not, but whatever you’re doing is really worrying me!”

After she left the message she tried to call him once again.

She had been doing this for about an hour and a half now, at first when her husband hadn’t come home at 9, she didn’t think too much on it, after all he was working pretty hard at that corpse spire.

When she began to panic was when it turned 10, and she started to call him, only for all attempts to call him to inevitably end up with her on voicemail, I mean one two calls that he had missed? Yes that was expected, but each and every one of her calls ignored? Something was wrong here.

If the situation wasn’t bad enough, she then heard her baby began to cry for her.

“Mama!”

Siri groaned loudly, dropping her hands to her side, great…now her kid was gonna have to be involved in what was going on right now.

She made a dash for her kid’s bedroom and over to her crib scooped her up, and holding her in one hand her phone still in the other.

Okay, so her husband wasn’t replying to any of her calls, which meant she should try to call someone else.

She typed a number into her phone as she went of the room.

“Mama.” Maria cooed trying to reach out to her mother.

“Not now Marie.”

She put the phone back to her ear, and waited, impatiently tapping her foot on the ground.

Ringgggg..ringgggg

“Hello?” Khan, her husband’s boss greeted

“Khan! Is Ken still with you guys over at that Corpse Wall thingy?”

“Uhm-No? We all left there about two hours ago.” Khan explained.

Siri felt her core stop, and she near dropped both her baby and phone in surprise.

“Two hours ago..!?” she couldn’t believe it, “Then he should’ve been home by now!” she cried

“I would think so, yes.”

“Oh my God,”

She couldn’t hardly stand, she went over to the sofa and fell onto it, placing her baby beside it.

“Baba?” Maria placed her hands on her mom’s thighs and looked up to her with orange eyes, being completely ignored

“Oh my God.” Siri repeated.

The mother began to drag her fingers through her thistle and mauve colored locks.

“Maybe he didn’t go straight home when he left and went somewhere?”

“went somewhere else!?!” she parroted in disbelief “Where could he have possibly gone!?” she cried.

He wouldn’t have done that, Siri knew her husband, and he wasn’t the kind of person to just head off somewhere without giving her a heads up of any kind.

“An excellent point, Mrs. Dewolfe.” Khan declared, accepting how outlandish his statement was, however despite his modesty it didn’t comfort Siri, just made her feel more panicked.

Maria leaned her head onto her mother’s side, and tried to rest her eyes.

“Look, how about this? If he’s not back by tomorrow, you can file a missing person’s report, and I’ll get the guys to host a search party, okay?”

“Tomarrow!?!? Oh f### that!” Siri sprung up from where she sat, “What if he’s out there injured?! He’ll rust out in this weather!”

“And I understand that, but nobody here has ever done a search party at this time of the night, and I’m not sure if they would be ready or not!”

“Again, I’m sorry about you’re husband, but we’ve already lost so many people this year, and I don’t want to risk anymore.” the father apologized.

Siri began to clench her fists in anger “Well fine, in that case I’ll go and search for him myself!” she exclaimed sharply.

“What no!-”

Before he could say anything else she hung up on him, tossed the phone onto the couch next to her daughter and marched to her and her husband’s room.

Once in their she grabbed her grey parka from the dresser it was placed on and began slipped it on, plus a pair of black snow boots in the closet

Her phone began to ring out, curious if it was her husband, though cautious if it wasn’t, she went back to answer it.

She found her daughter with it in her mouth, teething it with what little teeth she had, she pulled it away from her daughter’s mouth.

Maria responded to this with an annoyed bellow, Siri picked up a little teething ring from the floor, wiped it off on her parka and gave it to her baby.

Maria popped it into her mouth and began to teeth it like she had done the phone.

Siri looked at the person calling, it was Khan.

She huffed with irritation as she swiped the answer button.

“What!?” she spat

“Now Mrs. Dewolfe, you cannot go out their, you’re even more under prepared then both the WDF or WDSD combined!”

“And I can’t just leave my husband outside to rot in a blizzard either!”

“Siri-”

“KHAN! He’s the father of my child! You of all people HAVE to understand what I’m going through right now!”

Dead silence met her on the other line.

That managed to hit him right where it hurt, and it seemed she had known it, maybe now she would get the help that she needed right then and their.

After several long seconds of silence, she heard a soft sigh from the other voice on the line.

“I’ll see what I can do.” said Khan, his voice solemn

She sighed, relief swelling inside of her

“Oh thank you, Khan.” she replied, greatfully.

“Please, find him.”

Khan sighed turning off his phone.

“I have a bad feeling about this.” he pinched the middle of his screen.

Khan went to the bathroom in his room, where he had left his work clothes hanging on the door, as he done so he woke up his wife.

Nori was sleeping on the left side of the bed, the remote to the tv placed under one of her claws, since she was watching one piece before going out cold.

“Khan?” she turned to the door leading to his bathroom, which was now closed.

After a moment the door swugn open and her husband now fully dressed marched out of their, his face wrinkled in a grimace.

“Nori, I’ll be back in a moment, can you watch my things while I’m gone?” he asked her.

Nori said she’d do just that, and Khan left their room.

As he walked down the hall, his daughter’s door opened up, revealing her wide awake, headphones placed on her shoulders, and hair a rat’s nest.

Uzi who had managed to hear him talking on the phone, and more of a meddler then her mother, began to probe.

“Dad, what’s going on?” the purple haired drone asked “Who was that on the phone?”

“One of my employees went missing, and his wife is worried for him.” he didn’t even sugar coat it.

“Wait, what!?” Uzi began to follow behind him, “Who!?”

What did he mean by missing? Did someone leave

“Don’t worry about it yet, just play your minecraft or something.” Khan replied dryly, as he left the dorm.

Uzi simply stood at the door in disbelief.

Nori crawled over to the door, “Somebody’s missing?” she parroted, worry in her tone.

In the front of the Outpost 3 Bunker, the door began to rise up, revealing around a search party of five, two of which had oil hound, (originally called a search drone, basically a living metal detector, appearing to that of a robotic walking stick with the head of a vacuum cleaner.) then in front of them Khan Doorman.

It was still incredibly stormy out, and the first thing each one of the robots were met with was the violent gust of wind hitting their face, so strong they had scrunnched their faces up.

However they wouldn’t let that stop them, as matter of fact they had dressed for the occasion all of them wearing big stuffy parkas and helmets over their eyes, that weighed enough to keep them from going flying if the wind kicked up, even the hounds had protective armor on such as a thick vest, and a chain linked leash wrapped around them.

The first one to walk out was their manager, scanning the entire area, their was clouds of snow moving everywhere and it was near pitch black outside, they were gonna have to be very careful while doing this.

He turned to face his search party.
“I want this entire area, and this area alone scanned up and down for any signs of a drone, “Don’t go past the trees and don’t go into the city limits, if you get stuck somewhere call for help.” he explained “Does everyone understand?”

“Yes sir.” his men (plus one lady) nodded their heads.

Thus the search was on, all the drones starting around 15 yards away from the bunker, digging up any suspicious appearing clump of snow, calling out Kenneth’s name, slowly but surely closing in on the building.

So far, their search grew hopeless, with the oil hounds only managing to find scraps of metal here and their, and the only response they got to the shouts being the loud whirr of the wind.

That was until finally they were withen arms reach of the building and they started too scan it all over.

One of the hound handlers was on the left side of the building, their hound trudging along the snow, beeping every two seconds, as lined out the walls, moving over the bumpy trail of snow.

Beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep!

The hound originally moving with’s head to the ground, sprung right up, freezing dead in it’s tracks, the handler, A Jorden Keeler, brunette female drone with blue eyes, continued to walk, ending up bumping into the creature, before backing up.

“*sigh* What is it boy?” she muttered, all hope she had for finding the 19 year old male gone, thanks to countless false alarms from her helper.

He dashed down the trail, with each step it took it’s sound becoming even more frequent and it’s speed kicking up

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

At the point he had stopped, they were at a large clump of snow, and that noise was all the guard had heard.

The hound’s body bounced up and down with it’s nozzle appearing snout on the clump moving it all across it before beginning to dig it up.

The creature had feet shaped like a garden trowel, and toes like honey badger claws, making it easy for it to dig through both snow and dirt.

It tossed deep clumps of snow into the air, hitting the handler, and despite having a guard over her eyes, she held an arm out to protect her face.

“Did you find something??” she asked with genuine curiosity, trying her hardest to speak over the beeping.

She then seen something blue and black that was no longer hidden in the snow, curious she tried to look over her metal detecting companion to see what it was.

It looks like a jacket, the kind a wdf employee would wear.

A jacket, nothing more, atleast that’s what she thought for half a minute, before the hound had scooped a few more clumps of snow, and then she seen something even worse than just a jacket, so bad it caused her core to drop.

That being a horribly disfigured head of a worker drone.

“Sweet mother of JCJenson products.” the officer placed to her mouth.

After she had seen it, the oil hound, oh so proud of what he discovered walked in front of his find, and sat down wiggling his backside as he stared up, as if to say arn’t you proud of me master? I found what we're looking for!

After staring at the corpse which felt to be entirely the drone finally found it in her to notify her party.

“KHAN! I FOUND THE KID!” she cried

Khan plus three drones peaked down the edge of the building.

“Oh no.” said Mr. Doorman, already knowing by her facial expression it was bad news.

They all made a run for it, and gathered around.

Notes:

Well looks like the body's been found :(, any how this chapter came out earlier, but it's because I'm not gonna be able to update it this Saturday, also I might change the title of this book, because it doesn't exactly feel like a book about a euphoric teenage dream like I was wanting it too ;-; (Dw their's still gonna be lots a Nuzi sprinkled in it)
It's fine though, I like the route it's going, what about you ya'll? Any gripes or compliments you have?
