The Grievances of Deities

Summary:

“You cannot bury me forever!” Prosperity cried, oil-like tears running down its ethereal skin, “I am chaos, but I too am growth! They cannot live without us together! Dear sibling, please! Within these depths is my blood! Humanity grows reckless and prideful! Dear Opera, listen to my words! Time will tell, as smog fills the sky and oil in the seas, species shall die off too fast and progress destroyed. If our creations disturb this eternal rest of mine, they shall never see the light of day once more!”

And so it was silenced, layer after layer of earth's crust stacked upon it, in one last act of defiance, Prosperity created a huge flood, killing land while Prosperity lies with her first beloved creations, it's inky black blood and eerie blue glow of divinity filled the core, and Prosperity was forced to go dormant.

OR: The origin story of The Shape, deity headcanon/theory.

Lets make The Shape a good character!

Notes:

This felt like a unique idea, I hope it's good :D

If y'all like it(or i really like it) I may add more chapters, taking place on the rig POV The Shape, that seems like it'd be interesting.

When Prosperity says "love" to Opera it's not romantic, it means it platonically.

Chapter 1: Prosperity and Opera

Chapter Text

When dawn first broke, there were two Deities, one of structure and life, the other chaos and progress, the first is known as Opera, the second Prosperity, we know their names, but do not know who they are, that they ever existed.

No, prosperity isn't all good, neither is Opera, to balance reality these two entities had worked together; Opera gave the world light, animals and land, and Prosperity gave them growth, evolution, death and the ocean.

But one thing had been sworn between them… they would never show their faces.

When humans were sprouted, it was when Opera and Prosperity worked together, hand-in-hand, the deities grew their first hundred humans, they let them grow and thrive; Opera gave them love, joy, sadness and fear, and Prosperity gave them families, tribes, illness and cures.

One day, Opera began to get full of itself, it broke their promised code, it went down to earth and preened its feathers for humanity to gaze upon, Prosperity was jealous, but they were also obedient, one would think as an embodiment of chaos Prosperity would've broke the rule first, but it didn't.

Prosperity argued with Opera, who fumed at the seams, Prosperity tried to reason with its fellow deity, with whom Prosperity had been spawned the same day more millenniums ago than any mortal can ever count.

But Opera was prideful, and buried Prosperity away, it begged and pleaded for Opera to stop.

“Please love, stop! I know you're mad, but we can work this out!”

Opera ignored it's sibling, and buried Prosperity, forming the core of the earth, Prosperity cried for help, before swearing a promise.

Many years passed, each millennia disaster appeared, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes too, to show it's fear volcanoes blew their magma and fumes, and when it cried the rain would fall in hailing blizzards, and its anger shown in the mightiest earthquakes and winds.

Eventually, just as promised, the skies were being grayed by their creations, humanity hunted and killed other species and each other to the point of cruelty, humanity made one big mistake though.

Invading Prosperity's home.

The sea raged against rising oil rigs, it could not see them, but it could feel them, the pollution of waste filling its being, for it was one with the ocean, and its pain was Prosperity's pain, and Opera knew this, but it only encouraged humanity.

With every struggle for escape, tsunamis and earthquakes would quiver the earth as Prosperity fought for freedom, the earth's crust acting as a one-way door.

One day, that door was opened.

It wasn't a big hole, but the moment Prosperity felt the drill press to its body, it struck it, and the drill seemingly fought back, so Prosperity tore the drill downwards and grew up onto the machinery, the earth shook as it fled it's prison and slithered up the drill into the derrick, it could hear the panicked shouts and cries of men, but it did not think, it was angry, it simply wanted to make Opera regret it's decision.

So without an ounce of hesitation it grew upon the invader of its territory, it pierced the body's of some individuals forcing them to grow and evolve, made them one with itself, shared its eternal rage with them, its tendrils and ribbons of flesh wrapping around the rig like a parasite, determined to drag the structure down into the gaping bowls of the ocean.

Just as it got so much progress… the structure became hot and painful, a burst of heat and fumes that made it screech alongside the metal as it blew to pieces and sunk into the depths.

It did not die, no divine being such as Prosperity could die so easily, but it was hurt, it sat at the bottom of the sea, sitting waiting.

And then two foolish little humans descended into her domain.
