Chapter 1: The myth of kindness

Chapter Text

I tried to sit still in my room, even pretending to read a book, but something kept nagging me. It's the same feeling you get when you feel that something is wrong or you forgot about something. I kept thinking about it. So much so that I decided that it would be for the better, if I took a little break from my anti-interest reading of a horror classic.

So I went off, took my raggedy shoes and headed for an almost night walk, but be it summer, it was still sweating hot with bright skies.

But somehow, the city didn't bother to switch off the lights, not so strange, when you remember that almost everyone owns a yacht here. I got lost in the street lights bright shine and before you knew it, I walked into the eerie forest just behind the town.

The more you walk through it, the more the sun disappears. When I reach the quietest spot, where only the bird's song can be heard. I sit, along with my mind, I dream of the old fairytales of life.

I lay on the soft grass, gazing up at the tree branches and slowly closing my eyes. I dream of what I was going to achieve this summer, this year. I thought about my family a lot. But then skate back to the pleasantcy of the mediaeval stories and legends.

My daydreaming was cut short by a scream. Oh shit. My eyes went wide open and I ran to the sound, feeling the atmosphere shift when the sun finally left. And I strolled the forest, thanking my supernatural sight for being able to see even under the cloak of night.

As I followed in the footsteps of the memory of the sound, I started to hear groans and whines, the more I came close; assuring me that I was in the right direction.

My eyes widened in horror as I saw a pretty man, probably my age, stuck in a trap.

I wanted to slap my face for my stupidity. As I soon realized, the dark haired man was stuck in my trap. It was a makeshift vampire trap that I built long ago and since forgotten about. But it definitely wasn't built to catch some unfortunate humans in a net in the middle of the night.

The man in the net squirmed hopelessly, until he seemed to notice my presence. He suddenly froze and started looking at me with wide petrified eyes. My heart had sunk into its deepest pits.

I took a short breath and then took a step towards the stranger, who seemed to be backing away, still covered in the net, his knees and hands shifting hurriedly on the ground.

Why does he fear me? Does he recognize me, from the times I shifted? What if- my teeth still looked too sharp? ...Hirsh, take a breath, maybe he's just scared of a stranger approaching him in the middle of the night, in this scary looking forest. That's normal. It's not like you have any wolf looking feature right now.

"Hello, My name's Hirsh and I come in peace." I raise my hands, to look as non-threatening as I can. "Now, if you let me, I can help you to get the thing- net from you. Alright?"

After a slight pause, of icy air, he nods. And I can gently work around him to get it off. "There! Sorry for the inconvenience..." I give a polite smile, to ease the situation.

He just stared at me, a confused expression plastered on his pale face. "What." The stranger spoke in an even more confused tone than I think could be possible. At least his fear seemed to be slowly evaporating into the air, but I could still feel its presence.

After an awkward silence the stranger spoke again, this time choosing a different tone. "Why aren't you attacking me?" Oh. What. Now I raised my eyebrows at this statement.

"Uh... Why would I attack you?" I chose the route of playing it dumb, if this person had the slightest thought of that I was a wolf shifter it could probably be best to turn him away as fast as I could from this idea.

The stranger slowly stood up, looking face to face with me. "Because you're a werewolf." Nah, Nevermind, but what should I do now? Normally, humans would run in this situation, but this person is changing habits faster than I could catch on. But that's not the thing that should be bothering me-.

“How did you know I was a werewolf?” I put my arms on my hips, trying to release the emotions. “If I was one… “ I add with a dry laugh.

He starts to walk circles around me, like he was trying to find anything to point out.

“Well for starters, you reek like one.”

I pressed my lips into a thin line upon hearing that, but still I felt like something was off. How does he know what a werewolf smells like?

“Pardon me, but how do you know what a werewolf smells like?”

“Shush, If you live by the town, you know that they're everywhere.” The stranger points out something that was new to me. Was someone beside my family and some friends a werewolf?
