“Give me your hand.”
You looked up at Hunter, who was perched on the rocks above you, and reached for him. Strong fingers wrapped around your wrist and Hunter pulled you the last bit of the way to the top of the cliff. You stumbled a bit as you tried to find your footing, and you clung to Hunter’s broad shoulders. His hands were on your waist, steadying you.
“Thanks,” you said, a little breathless.
Hunter’s arms wrapped around your waist and he smiled at you. “You’re welcome, mesh’la.” With a tip of his head, he indicated you should look behind you. “Take a look.”
You turned in the circle of his arms, your back resting against his chest. Your eyes widened at the sight spread out before you.The lowering sun turned the ocean to molten gold and tipped each wave in glittering diamonds. The scattered clouds in the sky were scarlet and amber and honey colored, fading to a soft purple that deepened to violet where the night was creeping in.
“Hunter, it’s beautiful,” you said.
“I know the hike wasn’t easy. Thank you for trusting me, cyare.” He pressed a kiss to your cheek.
You laid your hands over his arms and leaned back into his warmth. “Thank you for helping me through the worst of it.”
Hunter nuzzled into your neck. “Always.”
