Truth no. 1: Hoseok hated Min Yoongi.
Well, no, he didn’t hate him. He just disliked the blond guy. Which was okay, because it was very clear, from the first week they had to share their dorm room, that they were not very compatible.
Hoseok would not consider himself a disorganized guy. He probably was just a little messy from time to time.
And clumsy.
And forgetful about some things, like taking out the trash.
And that was something that always put Yoongi on edge, just like right now.
“For fuck’s sake, Hoseok. It’s just taking out the trash. It can’t be that difficult”, the older complained, without raising his voice. He never yelled, or even raised his tone at Hoseok, which was something he was thankful for— maybe that little fact could compensate their weekly argument over the damn trash bag.
“Come on! It’s not like the truck is outside right now. There’s still time”. Hoseok tried his best to be patient with his roommate, but he couldn’t avoid to roll his eyes from annoyance every now and then.
And so he went to their stupidly small kitchen, opened the bin, grabbed the white trash bag, tied it, and walked to the door. “There, see?”, he added before leaving the room.
Hoseok softly cursed at him under his breath. Gosh…
After just a few weeks since the semester began, roommates were assigned and he was introduced to Min Yoongi, he was already annoyed just by knowing he had to see that blond haired guy every single day.
It was just the trash, for heaven’s sake! Yoongi’s done much worse things to him— and he had never complained even the closest as he did!
Like the times he stayed up all night finishing whichever composition assignments he still had weeks to work on, leaving their lights on and not allowing Hoseok to have a decent rest.
Or the times the short(er) guy would have his music production equipment (or whatever it was called; Hoseok had no idea about any of it) all over the floor and would have the guts to complain when he accidentally stepped on any wire.
Not to mention the first days, when Hoseok would enthusiastically try to make some conversation with him, only to be replied to with single-word responses that didn’t help much to their communication. (He still tried every once in a while, but it was very rare now).
Although… he did have to give it to Yoongi. He forgets about the trash every single week, as if it wasn’t one of his chores. And he preferred that one way over any of the chores Yoongi ended up picking for himself.
Also, he used to sleep in a bit, meaning that, when getting ready for class, his half of the room ended up really messy, and he wouldn’t be able to fix it til at night when he came back to the dorm.
And he had dropped his keyboard a few times already…
Yeah, maybe Yoongi was in the right for hating his sole existence.
That didn’t cancel his fucking stone cold personality, though.
Hoseok was too chatty for a roommate who’d barely say “good morning" to him.
Yeah… this was gonna be a long semester.
Truth no. 2: Yoongi wasn’t very social.
Yoongi had never been a social butterfly. Or a guy with more friends than he could count with one hand.
The first month of the semester, he had barely spoken to anyone who wasn’t his annoyingly chatty roommate. And he was sure he’d rather not talk to anyone than to have to hear his voice every day.
Okay, that may not be entirely accurate. Even if the tanned guy could be heavily annoying within five minutes of talking, he was… growing on him. Slowly. But it was.
But regardless, outside his room, he’d barely open his mouth unless it was to order his coffee at the Starbucks in campus (he hated overpriced coffee, but unfortunately it was the only place in campus that could make him a decent beverage).
That’s why he was taken aback when he felt someone tapping his shoulder from behind as he was waiting.
“Excuse me?”, the stranger said before Yoongi turned around to meet a taller figure, with round glasses, a dimple-y smile and maybe the warmest aura he had ever perceived out of any person.
“Can I help you?”, he asked while taking off one of his earbuds.
“Sorry”, the guy fixed his glasses, “you’re Min Yoongi, right?”, he just waited for his confused nod before continuing. “Cool! I’m Namjoon. Kim. You’re in my composition class and- I’ve noticed you’re a pro, man. Mind doing next weeks assignment together?”
With his coffee finally in hand (helping some warmth come into his body, because holy crap, was it cold outside), he carried the conversation with Namjoon until they got to a table and sat down to discuss music stuff, scrambled with details from their personal lives.
“Yah, I’ve kinda been doing some music ever since middle school? Maybe?”, Yoongi commented with a nervous chuckle. He wasn’t used to talk much about himself.
“Damn, that’s so cool, man”, the taller guy took a sip of his iced coffee. “Went to school anywhere near here?”
Yoongi shook his head. “Nah, no, no. My school was back there in Daegu. I’m just here for my degree and… whatever comes next”, he shrugged. This guy had him talk about a hundred subjects in just a matter of minutes, it was amazing.
“So… I guess you live in the dorms? How’s dorm life?”, Namjoon leant over the table a bit, taking a bite of the ham croissant he had bought with his coffee.
The blond guy just sighed. “It’s not really-”
“Joon-ah”
Both guys sitting turned around to find the owner of the voice, and while Namjoon quickly got up to welcome his friend with a hand shake, Yoongi could only look down at his hands in disappointment.
That nice, cool, smart guy was friends with fucking Hoseok.
“Oh, hey, Yoongi”, Hoseok greeted, in a much, much calmer voice. The blond just nodded in return.
“You two know each other?”, Namjoon asked quite excitedly, not seeing that coming.
Hoseok hummed, “Yeah, he’s my roommate”.
“Dude, we were just talking about that”, Namjoon chuckled, grabbing back his croissant. “Hey, Yoongi. We were planning on hanging out around the fields before Hoseok’s practice. Wanna join?”, he told him with a smile that could make anyone feel at home.
Yoongi look over at Hoseok, who seemed a little uncomfortable with the invitation. But as soon as they made eye contact, he just softly smiled and shrugged, “You can if you want to. No one is forcing you”.
And Yoongi just felt a little clench on his chest, because that soft smile was not one he had seen on his roommate before.
“Yeah, sure… whatever. I’ll go.”
Truth no. 3: Hoseok was the best dancer Yoongi had ever seen.
Weeks ago, when he met Namjoon and ended up hanging out with him, his roommate, and some other guys he didn’t know, he ended up learning a lot of things about each of them.
For example, that Namjoon worked part-time to help pay his tuition, as to make it up for his parents for picking a Composer degree and not Engineering or Medicine.
Or that he met Hoseok the very first day of class, when they both got lost on their way to their classes and somehow ended up outside of the campus.
He met Seokjin, Namjoon’s boyfriend. A tall, and incredibly handsome guy who was majoring in Art History and had an immaculate fashion sense.
And he knew Hoseok was also majoring in something music related. But that was when he found out he was majoring for Music and Dance Teacher. Which, with how laid-back he thought the red-haired guy was, that took him by surprise.
A lot.
He thought it was a joke, actually.
But from then, weeks had passed.
Hoseok had explained to him how dancing had been part of him ever since he could remember, which made sense considering his career choice. He had also explained how he had dance practices even besides everything he did for his classes.
And now there he was. Sitting in front of one of the full mirrored walls next to Hoseok’s belongings while watching him dance, and not in his room as soon as his lectures ended.
The taller guy had told him he could make him some company whenever he wanted to, as the studio used to be pretty lonely, and it only took Yoongi a week to comply and be with there with him.
He was sipping on his iced coffee while he watched, trying not to seem so intense, while Hoseok danced as if he was in his own world. So in sync with the music it actually scared him.
Then the music came to an end, Hoseok huffed with the huge smile that was so representative of him and sat down in front of Yoongi to drink some water.
“Do you not have any fucking bones or something?”, Yoongi asked, obviously not waiting for an answer, and made Hoseok spit a bit of his water.
“The hell is that supposed to mean?”, he asked back, chuckling while drying the sweat on his forehead.
“Dude, come on… The way you move your legs and go all-”, he made some weird gestures with his arms to try and get his point across, “It’s so weird. You’re weird”, he frowned mockingly.
That just made Hoseok laugh. The kind of laugh that weeks ago was the most annoying thing to Yoongi, but now it was like music to his ears and comfort to his heart. “I may be weird, but you’re still here making me company, so what”, Hoseok nudged his arm, grinning before getting up. “I know it’s late. You can go ahead if you wanna. I’ll just try once or twice more before going to the dorm”, he explained, stretching his arms a bit.
Yoongi shook his head, “Nah, it’s alright, I can wait”, he said without any hesitation, thinking about how he would love to come to his practice any day it was possible.
And they smiled at each other.
And the music resumed.
And Hoseok started dancing again.
And Yoongi found himself staring at his movements a little too much. Because Hoseok was the best dance he had ever seen. And had the most pretty hands, and toned arms, and gorgeous smile, and…
Shit, had he finished his sheet music for tomorrow?
Truth no. 4: Yoongi got sick easily.
Winter was approaching its end, and Yoongi has survived it pretty well. Just a few colds every now and then.
But it only took him one breezy day to knock him to bed for an entire week. Nose stuffed, head almost exploding and coughing his lungs out.
So there he was, wrapped in his bed sheet like a human burrito, with only his head sticking out, and a wet towel on his forehead— one Hoseok put there to help with his fever.
“I already told to to uncover a little. You’ll just make your fever worse”, Hoseok spoke from their small stove, cooking something Yoongi could not smell no matter how hard he tried.
“But I’m cold~”, he cried from his bed, his now light blue hair sticking to his forehead because of the towel.
Hoseok shook his head, knowing perfectly well that his hyung couldn’t see him.
Yoongi had his eyes semi closed, not knowing if it was because he was sleepy, because of the fever, or because the tame light from their lamp was hurting his eyes. But he could hear. And he was hearing some liquid pouring onto something. And then some mixing. And he didn’t put his mind on it much until he saw Hoseok’s silhouette in front of him, crouching down to be at his same height, with a mug in one hand and some pills in the other.
“This will make you a bit more sleepy, but trust me, you’ll wake up feeling much better”, Hoseok spoke softly. After a few days of this, he had learnt that his usual voice volume was too much for a sick Yoongi.
And so Yoongi sat up, letting the towel on his head fall over onto his lap. He took the pills, put them on his mouth, and grabbed the mug with shaky hands to swallow them. Hoseok kept his own close enough, in case he dropped it.
He didn’t.
“Is this tea?”, Yoongi asked, in such a low voice that Hoseok was barely able to understand his question.
He hummed, “My mom taught me how to make it. It can heal you from any cold, or flu, or whatever”, he grabbed the mug to go back to the stove and fill it up again, so he could place it in the night table next to Yoongi. That way he could drink it little by little.
He grabbed the mug to drink a little more. It wasn’t like that tea had the best taste in the whole world (sorry, Hoseok’s mom), but the warmth it brought to his chest made him feel a lot better (also, maybe the fact that it was made by Hoseok, but that wasn’t relevant, right?)
Yoongi tucked himself back into bed, letting the towel fall onto the floor next to his slippers, and closed his eyes, blindly listening how his roommate was pouring the rest of the tea onto a jar so he could clean the pot, and save the rest of the liquid on their mini fridge for later.
“Hoseok-ah”, he called mumbly, his cover muffling most of the sound coming from his mouth. He heard a hum from the aforementioned, and took it as a sign to keep talking, “You going to practice today?”
“I’m supposed to…”, he replied, a little confused, “Why ask, hyung?”, Hoseok just heard a mumble in response, which made him chuckle.
“Can you stay? Just for a bit…”, Yoongi muttered, though Hoseok was pretty sure he was more asleep than he was awake, “I feel like I’m dying… I don’t wanna be all lonely here.”
And that, for some reason, made Hoseok feel as if his heart melted. The guy who months ago would tell him to fuck off because he didn’t take out the trash was now asking him to stay and take care of him.
Well, that was a sweet turn of events.
Hoseok walked back to Yoongi’s bed, crouched down and caressed his forehead, hearing his soft snores. He was sure the pills had knocked him down already, because he didn’t even react to his touch.
Hoseok took his time to fix Yoongi’s wet hair, accommodate the sheets and even his pillow (as delicately as he could, not wanting to wake him up). And as he looked at him, so peaceful, calm. His skin so pale and soft-looking…
He leant in and placed a soft kiss on his forehead.
“Don’t worry, hyung… I’ll stay.”
Truth no. 5: Hoseok was comfort.
Midterms season was like hell on Earth (only comparable with finals season, which no one wanted to think about just yet).
Around campus, you could see everyone running from one place to another, hurrying with due dates and their assignments and what not. Every single place that sold coffee, no matter how good or bad, had never ending queues of students needing their source of energy (and will to live) to continue with their duties.
And in one of those queues was Hoseok, waiting for his name to be called.
Ever since they grew closer, Hoseok knew Yoongi’s favorite coffee place on campus despite the price. He learnt his order as well as the light-blue haired guy had learnt his. They had grown used to hang out there every now and then— whether to work on their assignments, or just to catch some air (Yoongi didn’t know how, but Hoseok made him like to go out of the dorm more often).
“Iced coffee and chai frappé for Hosuk!”
Damn, his name wasn’t that hard to pronounce.
Cardboard tray in hand, he walked his way to the dorm, entering and meeting a mess of soda and energy drink cans all over the floor, with a Yoongi all hooded up on an oversized black hoodie, slouching over his desk, face almost touching the screen of his computer.
Gosh, this guy was a mess when stressed.
“Hey, hyung”, Hoseok called, placing the tray over their small counter. But Yoongi was mumbling something to himself focused enough to ignore him. “Hyung…”
Still no answer.
Hoseok sighed. This guy was gonna be the end of him. He walked towards him, grabbed him by the shoulders and turned him around to face him. “Yoonie… hyung… take a break, yeah?”
Yoongi looked at him with eyes wide open, and his body was shaking as if he could explode at any second. And that made the younger of the two quite worried.
“What’s the matter…?”, he asked, his voice so soft if felt like velvet in the middle of the chaos that was Yoongi’s mind right now.
But the eldest still didn’t move. At least for a few seconds, as his eyes slowly started watering, and his lips twitched into a little pout, and his legs raised until his knees touched his chest, pushing Hoseok slightly apart.
But his hands didn’t leave his shoulders.
“I-I… I can’t do it anymore”, Yoongi muttered with a lump in his throat. “It’s too much. I’ve been working on this for a whole fucking month and it’s still not done. I’ve still got shit to do. I haven’t slept well in fucking weeks. Hell, I haven’t let you sleep well in weeks. I-I can’t. I feel like-”
His breath was getting heavier and faster, and with tears running down his cheeks, Hoseok went full alert mode.
“Hey, hey, hyung. Breathe. Please…”, he pressed on his shoulders slightly stronger.
His hands went to Yoongi’s. He took them, caressed them, massaged them, and squeezed them in a sort of pattern he made up on the spot.
“Keep breathing…”, he kept repeating him, not letting go off his hands.
Neither of them knew how long they stayed like that, nor did they know how long it took Yoongi to start breathing normally again.
All they knew, is that they may have held hands a little longer than they should have.
“Better?”, Hoseok asked, looking up to him with the softest smile.
And Yoongi nodded, his swollen face smiling back at him, “Better”.
“Good”, the red-haired stood up, slowly letting go off the other’s hands, and looked over to their beverages. “I think your iced coffee isn’t iced anymore, but maybe you’ve had too much caffeine lately”, he crossed his arms, an eyebrow raised and a soft smirk on his lips making Yoongi chuckle.
“I can’t reject the coffee you brought me, though…”, Yoongi finally stood up, massaging his arms a little. “It’s watered down by now, it’s okay.”
“You sure?”, Hoseok was still hesitant about it. He didn’t want his roomie— his friend— going through the same as a few seconds ago again. Still, he grabbed both cups and handed Yoongi his.
“I’m sure. I still need to finish that goddamn project…”, Yoongi reassured as he grabbed his coffee. But neither of them wanted to let go.
And they were looking at each other’s eyes.
And appreciating each other’s pretty features, and…
Had Hoseok always had that mole on his lips?
Lie no. 1: Hoseok hated Min Yoongi
As soon as midterms season ended, it felt as if life was flowers and rainbows once again. Well, maybe not like that, but it felt way better.
The tons of empty cans and snack bags had been cleaned up and thrown away by the couple of roommates, who felt accomplished by being able to see their room floor once again.
“Seok-ah”, Yoongi called, as he was getting done folding their laundry and separating it according to what belonged to who.
“Yup?”, Hoseok was making their beds, fluffing the elder’s pillow the way he learnt he liked it, and turned around to face him as they spoke.
A sudden heat hit Yoongi’s cheeks, “How does, I don’t know… Ordering takeout sound to you? Maybe watch a movie… Or something… You know, we deserve treat to treat ourselves”. Gosh, he was trying so hard to avoid eye contact, yet side-eyeing him just to try and see his reaction.
Hoseok huffed and leant over the wall, his arm going over his head, and his heart-shaped smile enlightening the whole room. “Is this a question? Or a suggestion, hyung?”, he asked, eyebrows raised with curiosity (and maybe even some hope).
Yoongi finally dared to look at him in the eye.
“A suggestion”, he stated, playing with his hands.
“Well, then”, Hoseok stood up straight, giving two steps into Yoongi’s direction, “then I’d say it’s sounds like an amazing idea".
Sure, they were closer as friends now. But that didn’t mean they didn’t disagree anymore. Deciding on what food to order was hell.
“Who in their right fucking mind doesn’t like tacos?!”
“I said I don’t like spicy food, stupid. I never mentioned tacos!”
And similar discussions happened until they finally decided on ordering some fried chicken.
Neither of them would admit it, but they were gonna miss this interactions when the semester ended.
Anyways…
Two hours later, they were on their impromptu picnic set up (Hoseok’s blanket laying on the floor, Yoongi’s pillows acting as some sort of back rests, and his monitor acting as their little private theater screen on top of his chair.
It may sound messy (and it was; Hoseok came up with it, after all), but it served it's purpose.
And so there they were: watching The Lion King, eating fried chicken, singing as if they were five year olds (although that was mostly Hoseok). Sitting next to each other, with barely any space between them.
And Yoongi couldn’t be any happier.
“Seok-ah”, he softly called, taking the younger’s attention from the movie (which he seemed too invested in), “I, uh, never got to thank you for everything…”
“Whachu mean?”, Hoseok spoke with his mouth full. For Yoongi, that would’ve been the most disgusting thing in the whole world if it wasn’t Hoseok doing it.
“I mean… You took care of me when I got sick. you helped and comforted me when I was panicking… You’ve done a lot for me. You’re a fucking angel and… And I was a dick to you in the very beginning”, he concluded feeling shameful. Shit… he had been such an ass to someone who was a literal ray of sunshine.
Hoseok hummed, “That’s right, you were a dick”, he agreed, nudging Yoongi’s arm playfully, “But I wasn’t the best roomie in the beginning, either. We both were… a struggle”, he chuckled, “But look at us now!”
“Yeah… look at us”, he repeated, although it was more of a mumble to himself.
He had stopped eating a minute ago, finding himself too focused on how Hoseok’s eyes were lightened up as he watched the kids’ movie, or how melodious his laughs and giggles were, or how delicately he’d clean his lips from any chicken grease left on them, or…
Fuck.
Yoongi swung to his side and pecked his cheek, quickly going back to his original position as if that was nothing.
But apparently that soft touch was enough to break Hoseok out of his childhood nostalgia trance.
“What was that?”, Hoseok asked in confusion. Yoongi noticed he was not mad— he didn’t appear mad, and that was enough for him.
“That? No, that was just… a way to say thank you. Bro to bro”, he tried to toughen up, but felt like he was sinking deeper into cringe with every word he said.
“Ah, okay. I see”, Hoseok nodded slowly, glancing over at the screen that, honestly? Didn’t matter anymore.
And so he picked a napkin and cleaned his fingers, and turned around to sit face to face with his hyung, whose face was now changing colors despite his chill face. “So this is just a bro thing?”, he asked, chuckling, leaning over and not able to take himself seriously.
“Yup, just a bro thing”.
And Hoseok’s chuckle grew into a soft laugh. “Yeah, right”.
And Yoongi suddenly felt the soft touch of Hoseok’s hand on his nape, as he gently pulled him closer (almost as if he was silently asking for his permission). And Yoongi complied, being himself the one to close the gap between his lips and the soft, precious marvel of Hoseok’s.
There was no rush.
There was no hurry.
Nothing that could interrupt those few seconds of heaven that they got to feel as long as their lips touched.
Until they didn’t.
Hoseok pressed his forehead against Yoongi’s, who kept his eyes closed, “I can’t believe I used to hate you…”
“You hated me?”, he asked dramatically, although the whole conversation was being carried by soft whispers.
“No, I never hated you. I just… disliked you… the first few weeks”, he corrected himself, a shy laugh following.
“And do you still dislike me?”, Yoongi asked teasingly.
“Absolutely”, the younger continued with the joke, at the same time as his hands went from the other’s nape to cup his cheeks, “As a matter of a fact, I heavily dislike you”.
And for the first time, Hoseok got to see Yoongi’s gummy smile, and the world could as well ended right then and there, because Hoseok knew that he’d never see anything more precious, cute and adorable in his life.
And he knew for sure he’d love to see it every single day.
So that peck that Yoongi gave on his cheek evolved into that kiss, which evolved into more kisses, each deeper than the last, with their arms around each other, as if they were afraid of losing the other at any second.
“Just so we’re clear”, Yoongi spoke at a moment they paused to breathe, “I really like you”.
“Yeah, no shit…”, Hoseok laughed, being quickly shut by Yoongi’s lips once again.
And fuck, he would never get tired of that.
