It was so peaceful, Margarine had gotten comfy under Buttercream's wing as he so often did. The wyvern letting out quiet purrs and level breathing lulled the cookie to sleep. On top of just the warmth from the wyvern Margarine had also collected himself under about 3 comforters- if he could have a weighted blanket he would have 100% added that to the pile. Margarine was in that perfect state where you could feel yourself falling asleep. It felt like a warm cloak just wrapped around him, assuring that absolutely nothing could go wrong as his mind went to rest.

.
He was quickly snapped out of this when he was so rudely shaken by an unknown source. All he could really feel was something with sharp claws holding his shoulder roughly while he was being shaken. Margarine jolted up and looked around- his heart rate spiking as his brain panicked. He sighed and put his hand to his chest when he saw two little glowing white dots staring at him from the darkness.
“By the witches- pitaya! What on earthbread are you doing??”
Margarine half scolded in that almost yelling whisper, glaring at the dragon. Pitaya shrugged, they hadn’t bothered lighting a candle but the moon light provided some dim cold light. They sat down on the bed, crossing their legs and tucking their wings in tight.
“I can not sssleep and I’m bored.”
Pitaya yawned, they certainly sounded like they could sleep to Margarine. Margarine huffed and tried to lay back down again
“What, so bothering me was the best choice?? Why not wake up Hollyberry- you were even sharing a room with her!”
“Hollyberry sssleeps like a brick- essspecially after a few glasssess, Tarte Tatin would try to ssstab me, Wildberry is no fun, and it took hoursss putting sssnapdragon to sssleep. Besssidesss you’re the only one that toleratesss this kind of nonsssensse.”
… He couldn’t exactly come up with a rebuttal. It was true, margarine was the only one in the whole group that wouldn’t at least try to shut down the dragon's shenanigans to put it short. Although he put on a less than amused look to try and convince the other he wouldn’t. He sighed and leaned against buttercream, rubbing his eyes. The dragon stared at him, tail twitching, waiting for the cookie to respond.
“I- …ugh.. Fine, how about a card game yeah? One round and then you agree to let me go back to sleep. Sound like a deal?”
“Deal.”
Whether or not Pitaya was gonna keep that promise was unclear. Most likely not because a deal spoken in simple cookie tongue didn’t and wouldn’t mean much to a dragon like them- however margarine didn’t care much either. He sat up and got the cards from his bag. They were a newer set, buying them not even 3 weeks ago at a sea side market. A royal blue with black and gold accents, he quite liked them. Keeping them nice and pristine.
“The rules are simple, all you gotta do is not draw the jester. However with each go around the amount of cards lowers and the chance of getting the jester increases… Normally there is a prize and each time the prize amps up each round. I tend to bet on money, so we can do that if you wish.”
The dragon nodded, watching the cookie take out the jester before shuffling the deck. Margarine just quietly hummed as the dragon thought.
“Okay. If I win all the roundss.. You get to fulfill a requesst of mine.”
“.... you’re being vague… better not be anything creepy- or gross.”
“No no! Nothing of the sssort! I promise you that cookie.”
The dragon defended themselves, offended Margarine would even suggest Pitaya would make them do something ‘gross’.
“Okay out with it then- also keep your voice down. Cookies are still trying to sleep.”
“Iii’mmm sstill deciding, i will tell you what the requesst is in due time cookie.”
Margarine rolled his eyes before setting 10 cards out on the bed. The bed wasn’t admittedly the best option for this but Margarine wasn’t gonna find a solid place right now. Pitaya looked at the cards, before tapping the 5th one with their claw. Usually Margarine put in some effort, trying to do some kind of mind game and trick the person into picking the jester. Lots of ‘are youuu sure about that’ and other things of that nature. However, it was around 10 pm and he didn’t have enough energy to care. He picked the card up and showed Pitaya the card. A 6 of Spades, Pitaya gave a smile and their tail wagged. Margarine gave a soft smile back before taking that card away plus 3 others. Reshuffling the remaining six.
“You know, a lot of folk say cards hold meaning? I personally don’t see it, just a bunch of numbers and shapes to me. But I've seen cookies pay 100s of coins for card readings.”
“Cookiesss.. Are sso foolish ssso that doesss not sssurprissse me..”
Margarine kept talking about cards and what different cookies thought they meant, and how he’s actually given a few of these ‘card’ readings. Pitaya blinked a bit, now not exactly thinking about what card they picked. Just picking at random as they listened to Margarine talk softly to not wake the others. Perhaps that was the other reason the dragon had decided to bother Royal Margarine Cookie specifically. They hated to admit it but the cookie had a soothing voice. Smooth and rich like his name sake. It was so relaxing to listen to when he wasn’t flirting with the cookie around. They blinked as suddenly there were only two cards left, 50/50 shot of getting what they wanted. Margarine watched the dragon decide which card to pick. They had noticed the dragon getting sleeper as they talked so they hadn’t stopped. It wasn’t anything insightful or interesting, just…talking about cards. How his day was, what he wanted to do tomorrow, just unimportant stuff like that. Pitaya eventually tapped on the right card and margarine picked it up. Revealing the 9 of hearts.
“It appears you win Pitaya, now what exactly is it you wish?”
Pitaya looked up, before stretching their wings and yawning. Almost like they had forgotten about that part of the deal. Making a small ‘oh’ sound before thinking. Margarine put the cards away while allowing pitaya to think. Putting the expensive cards back on the nightstand. He hadn’t realized the dragon had gotten closer. Letting out a small yelp as pitaya’s face was now just a breath away from his. Pitaya then rested their forehead against Margarines.
“My requesst iss… you do not tell anyone else about this night.”
Margarine blinked slightly but nodded, feeling a blush rise in their face from the pure closeness with the other. Pitaya laid the two down, a wing wrapping around margarine and hugging him close. Pitaya didn’t take their forehead off Margarines, laying on top of him slightly so the touch could last longer. Margarine wasn’t in all honesty sure why he couldn’t share this happened. Pitaya was just holding him, falling asleep with margarine in their arms. Perhaps Pitaya themselves were embarrassed by the intimacy? Seemed the most likely… However Margarine didn’t put up a fight. Closing his eyes as he started to fall asleep in the dragon's arms. Falling asleep to the sound of a wyvern cooing wasn’t new to him, but falling asleep to a dragon’s purrs was a new one and frankly he could get used to it.
