Alarms were blaring everywhere as hurried footsteps of military personnel could be heard throughout the metal hallways of the NERV HQ. Rushing through the narrow corridors, these men and women were decked out in bulletproof gear and carrying automatic rifles with them. Normally, these people would only be deployed if a terrorist attack happened or some other threat had been located within the base and needed t be eliminated. This time it was kind of both as an extremely dangerous subject that had been brought in earlier that very same day was now on the loose within the facility.
Running through one of the corridors was a teenage boy in a skin-tight white and blue suit. His breath came out in huffs and pants, while sweat began to form on his skin and made his short dark hair cling to his face and head as if being drenched under a shower.
"Shinji, are you at the hangar bay already?" Said a male voice coming from an ear piece in his right ear, while the boy was breathing heavily. "Not wanting to sound pushy here, but I'm kind of running out of time and unless you want us both to share prison cell, you better hurry up." A few muffled noises came over the microphone after that, seemingly further away from the speaker before, which Shinji could vaguely make out as someone shouting. Just then Shinji managed to open the door to his destination. A massive room designed to house and maintain a war machine of immense size. The weapon of mankind against the invading entities known as angels. Massive biomechanical humanoid giants that were meant to be piloted by people like Shinji: the Evangelion units. Shinji looked up at Unit 01, the one he piloted, which was covered in purple and green armor with a long horn on its helmeted head. After looking at his unit for a second, he raised a hand and pressed a finger against the ear piece.
"I'm in the hangar bay now." Shinji said slightly out of breath from the running, while making his way quickly towards the metal stairs leading up towards the platform at the evangelion's head level.
"Okay, good. I'm initializing the lift to get us out of here." The speaker from the other side of the line replied, before the loud bang of a gunshot could be heard, making Shinji wince from the sudden loud noise. "Goddamit!" The speaker yelled before gunfire erupted shortly on the other side. Then it fell silent for a moment. "Okay, I'm back. Damn, that little turd Gendo just loves being even shittier when things don't go his way just like before." Shinji would have winced slightly if he wasn't currently dragging himself up the stairs towards the entry plug, when the person on the other side referred to his father as a little turd.
"Is this really a good idea?" He couldn't help but sound uncertain about all of this, despite the fact that it was way too late to stop now.
"Hey, I'm literally thinking on my feet here to get both of us out here in one piece and preferably not in a body bag. So, I'll not apologize for this not being my best plan yet. Now stop your whining and get to- FUCK!" The voice said over the earpiece, just before the line was abruptly cut. The not-so-distant dull noise of gun fire made him not question what happened to the speaker on the other side as Shinji ran a hand over his forehead to brush away some hair clinging to his face while the other held the railing tightly to not fall over.
"Oh man..." He groaned with a defeated voice as he made his way up the stairs at last and turned towards the entry plug of Evangelion Unit 01. He was about to move towards it when all of the sudden a nearby door opened and gunfire shot out of it. He couldn't help but stumble as the flashes of the bullets barely missed him and flew into the room, exploding in showers of sparks when the bullets hit a metal surface.
"SON OF A BITCH!"
Not soon after an older man with spiky light blue hair in a white lab coat, brown pants and black shoes came running through the door, before immediately slamming his hand against button next to the wall. The heavy metal door slammed shut almost immediately and locking itself as bullets rained against it from the other side as dull thuds not too unlike rain hitting a window. For good measure, the old man then produced what looked like a small handgun from his lab coat and shot at the button, destroying the mechanism completely and thus rendering it unusable. From the other side, Shinji could hear angry yelling and pounding against the door as well as footsteps moving away from the sealed door. With the door locked, the blue-haired man made a mad dash towards Shinji.
"R-Rick, what's going on?" Shinji asked in a panic and still shaken up by the experience, but the old man ignored his question entirely.
"WE GOT TO GET OUTTA HERE SHINJI!" He yelled as he pressed some buttons on a device, that looked like a digital wrist watch. Shinji had no idea what he was doing nor could he tell from where he was standing in all of this, but suddenly the whole facility around them hummed and buzzed to life with machines firing up.
"INITIATE EVANGELION LAUNCH!" A robotic voice said over the speakers as the entry plug was partially pushed out of the eva, allowing the pilot to climb in. All around them machinery and mechanisms began to move as the automated protocols were being executed.
"Get in the *burp* robot Shinji! We-We need to g-*burp*-get the hell outta here right fucking now!" Rick said in an urgent tone as he pushed Shinji towards the now open entry plug.
"W-What are you-?" Shinji wanted to ask as he was still having no idea what their exact escape plan even was, causing Rick to grab him by the shoulders and shaking him like a ragdoll.
"Stop *burp* asking stupid questions, you piece of shit! NOW GET IN THE FUCKING ROBOT!"
You might be wondering what in tarnation you have just beheld? Well, this was a teaser to another story project I've had in mind since I've first watched Rick & Morty a long time ago. And since it was a bit of a prologue/pilot sort of deal here, I'll just say that there is a reason why Rei's hair is about the same colour as Rick's. So safe to say that this is not Rick C-137 and things will be explained a bit more in the first chapter when it comes out.
