Work Text:
It was a normal day for the family of 3. Ryoba in the kitchen, Jokichi on the couch, and Ayano playing on the floor with her toys. But then came the knock on the door...
Jokichi gets up from the couch, walking towards the front door, "Just a second!" Opening the door, he was frozen. The police were here.
"Where is Ryoba Aishi? We have a warrant for her arrest." Jokichi tents up, turning around to Ryoba, who was all the way down into the house, watching from the dining room. Ryoba smiles, "What am I being arrested for?"
The police rush in, muddling the family's house. The chief shuts, "You're under the arrest for the murders of Moeko Rakuyona, Honami Hodoshima, Sumiko Tachibana, Ritsuko Chikanari, and Ai Doruyashi. Plus an order of a retrial for Sumire Saitozaki! You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do can be used against you in the court of law."
With too many officers in their home, Ayano was almost crushed, but Jokichi came to her rescue. Holding her tightly as they stayed in the corner. He covered her eyes, shielding her from the damaged caused by the police as they taken her mother and ransacked their house for more clubs. With an upside down house, their lives will never be the same.
Left in the mess of it all, Jokichi couldn't do anything but hold his only child. Falling to his knees, lets go of Ayano, "Everything is going to be okay... It's just a small mess..."
Ayano was clueless to the pain, but she can see the disorder in her father's eyes. She wishes she could feel sad, but she didn't even cry when they took away her mother. None of it effected her as much as it affected her father.
Her retrial reaches past the fame of her first one. With new evidence and forensic techniques, the case was heavenly stacked against Ryoba. There was no possible way she could defend herself again, she really need a team of lawyers. Even with the best team, her best chances would at least keep her away from the death chair, yet then than that failed to prevent the worse for her.
Her trial was live for all to see. Every single news outlet had this case covered. People soon doxxed Ryoba's house and family and they came to her home to draw graffiti, smashing their windows, and if given the opportunity, harass her family. Poor little Ayano's bullying had gotten worse. Jokichi lost his job for being married to Ryoba. Their family was in crumbles.
But a opportunity came... Jokichi terrified of the world more so than his wife choose to speak out.
His testimony and added messed evidence of the tapes in the basement was the death sentence needed for Ryoba to lose all hopes of freedom and the chance of an easy sentance.
The public's opinion called him the poor husband to a psychopath, just another one of her victims. With newfounded support, everyone who once hated the family grown to love Jokichi. His story was an inspirational hit. Everyono knew about his abduction, his time being tied up in a dark basement for months until he developed stockholm syndrome for his stalker and abductor. No one blamed him for staying slient for the years before the trial. His story was too heartbreaking. observing the grown man crying and having a panic attack in the witness stand, the public felt sympathetic. He was the nail in her coffin. Betrayed by him, Ryoba cries in forgiveness, but no amount of tears can take away the consequences.
Jokichi loves Ryoba, but his fear of her was also just as great.
Once was one of the best Aishi is now the shame of the family.
Though it all, little Ayano sits quietly in her seat drawing the events in her little book. She couldn't fully comprehend it, but she understands one thing, her mother is scarier than what she believed her to be even before the trial. Her lessons that Ayano had learned and remembered feel useless to her. Murder isn't always the best answer.
With the script flipped, Ryoba's death day had been declared. The evidence was undeniable, she will receive the death chair.
The father and daughter sat together. Ayano is young, but she will remember this. She touches her father's hand, "We'll be okay, Papa..." Jokichi cries hysterically as he kisses Ayano's forehead. He hugs the only physical reminder of his wife. He couldn't bring himself to hate the innocent child. He prayed that maybe without her influence. Just maybe she can be a normal girl once it was all over. Maybe with him, her condition will dissolve.
With the dates for her death coming, he didn't send in the divorce papers. What's the use? She is going to die soon and the trial enough was stressful.
Still as husband and wife, they sat with a one-way mirror in-between them. He was the only one there from her close circle. Although, the glass was there, he could feel her glaze. He knows she can see though walls. She knows he's here. With a smile, she accepts her death as the injections enter her bloodsteam.
Jokichi Aishi is official a widow.
Leaving the execution room, he picked up Ayano in the seating area before returning home.
The spotlight will not fade for them anytime soon.
Their family's drama will leave a lasting mark in court's history.
