simultaneous …s appeared for hoseok, yoongi, and jin, but hoseok’s where’s namjoon came in first.
taehyung: he’s here!!!!!!!! don’t worry
yoongi: and why can’t he tell us so
jimin and taehyung looked at namjoon, his head resting in jungkook’s lap, his tail thumping happily on the ground as jungkook gave him scritches behind his ears.
jimin: maybe come home early
-
“where’s my bab—what the fuck?” jin screeched, scrambling back as an entire wolf rushed at him as soon as he came in the door. he attempted to scale the door as the wolf’s wagging tail knocked all of the contents of the entryway table off, though yoongi managed to catch the key bowl before it could shatter on the ground.
hoseok seemed too shocked by the whole thing to move, standing just out of the doorway and staring at the huge wolf snuffling yoongi’s stomach and jin’s legs.
jungkook whined and practically laid himself over the wolf. “hyung, i was comfy—”
“getting pets is a family conversation, babies,” hoseok said, voice a little strangled.
yoongi looked at jungkook giggling as the wolf lapped at his cheek, then at jimin and taehyung who distinctly did not look worried about the sharp teeth near their baby’s neck, then at the graying patches on the wolf’s fur that, if he was not mistaken, mapped on to those he had become very familiar with.
“how did this happen?” he asked, crouching beside jungkook, taking the wolf’s cheeks between his hands before he could be on the receiving end of even more enthusiastic licks.
“we were just playing on the beach and poof,” taehyung explained, like it was any explanation at all.
“poof?”
“poof,” jimin agreed. “we were playing frisbee and then—then there was a puppy catching it instead of joon-hyung.”
“are you saying—” hoseok began, staring at the wolf. “why? how?”
“i mean—” taehyung said, coming over to sit crosslegged next to yoongi, giving the wolf’s back a scratch in what seemed to be a perfect spot, given the way his back leg thumped against the ground. “i couldn’t find much on it—not like we can find much useful stuff on alphas on a good day, and with this—”
“we found some forum post from years and years ago where an alpha—shifted? and the omega who posted it said he must have gotten too comfortable,” jimin said, making a face, “and they sold him right after. i don’t know if all alphas can, but—”
“they’re closer to their wolf side, supposedly. it’s—you know. a ‘reason’ for subjugation,” taehyung continued. “maybe—maybe our joonie is closer than most.”
jin glanced between taehyung and the wolf frantically. “you’re not saying—”
“isn’t he so cute?” jungkook said, hugging around his huge neck and burying his face in his fur. “the best alpha in the world, hyung, i love you so much—”
namjoon let out a happy whine, stomping his front paws restlessly. that was what convinced jin: their namjoonie felt so much love that it was hard for him to be still with it most of the time. this was close enough to the clenching of his fists or the stretching of his legs that there was no way to mistake it for anything else.
“d-did the post say anything about, uh—when the alpha shifted back?”
“no,” jimin said, taking a place at namjoon’s other side, patting the ground beside him for one of his other hyungs to take a seat. “but it implied he was human the next day, so.”
“it was a really good day,” jungkook said, voice muffled, face still buried in his fur. “i think hyung was just really happy.”
namjoon let out a deep, deep woof that was obvious agreement.
hoseok sat beside jimin, just barely dodging the lick that namjoon aimed for his face but accepting it on his shoulder. “how long has he been like this?” he asked, a smile twitching at the corners of his mouth when namjoon leaned heavily on his chest, nearly stumbling in an effort to get closer.
“a few hours, since just before lunch. he still likes the same foods, he wouldn’t eat any raw steak—”
“you tried to feed my baby raw meat?” jin half-shrieked.
“he didn’t eat it!” taehyung pouted. “he really liked cereal, though.”
jungkook giggled. “he got so messy, it was so cute—”
namjoon whined, going from hoseok’s chest to jungkook’s.
“maybe he internalized all the whining you’ve been doing about wanting a dog, tae-yah,” yoongi said, only-half teasing.
taehyung laughed, leaning on yoongi’s shoulder. “he’s much, much better than a small dog. he’s the best weighted blanket, for one. jin-hyung, sit, give our baby some pets—”
jin met those deep brown wolfy eyes for half a second before caving, parting ways with the door he was still pressed against to kneel in front of him, letting out a deep sigh as namjoon let out a quiet whine.
he was always worried about jin’s acceptance, even after all of these years together. it was something their alpha had never been able to shake, no matter how often jin told him he loved him or assured him of his belonging or praised their namjoonie for being the best thing to ever happen to them. of course he would be worried about this.
“ah, my namjoonie,” jin sighed, petting his head for a moment before craning up to give his forehead a kiss. “what are we gonna do with you, huh? you were already our little giant, we’re going to have to add another mattress on the bed to fit us all—”
namjoon’s tail thumped loudly on the floor, his nails tip-tapping on the floor as he stomped, the sweet, happy little whines he let out when jin hugged him close pulling at every heartstring imaginable.
“okay, so,” he said, pulling back without taking his hands off his soft fur, looking between all of his mates. “the babies had him for a few hours, so we get to make up for lost time—”
jungkook’s loud keen would be their downfall and they all knew it, but jin did his best to ignore it for the time being.
“i say we just—put on a movie and cuddle and, uh, learn, i guess? in case this happens again.”
“oh, i hope it does,” jimin said, almost wistfully. “look at him, isn’t he perfect?”
“of course he is,” jin pouted, “but he’s perfect when he can talk, too.”
“hyungnim, promise to not be mad—” taehyung pouted at hoseok.
hoseok squinted at him. “not a great start.”
“the couch might be a little sandy—just a little!” he elbowed jungkook’s side when he mouthed a lot. “but the bed isn’t and i can vacuum before we cuddle.”
“in our defense, we couldn’t figure out how to get sand off joonie’s paws, and we ran around a lot outside because he was having so much fun and he was so cute—”
“i got so many pictures,” jimin said, and all possible ire disappeared from hoseok’s face as he reached to demand his phone.
jin sighed and gave namjoon’s chilly nose a kiss. “you are the prettiest wolf i’ve ever seen, baby. you might be the only, but—”
namjoon let out a happy yip and managed to lick his chin, nearly toppling jin over with affection when he wasn’t pushed away.
“puppy,” jin admonished, though the warmth in his voice erased it all. “come on, let hyung clean you up and—” he let out a breath, “i don’t know. text someone about this?”
“i think we would have heard if this happened to anyone else,” taehyung grinned, giving namjoon’s back a few enthusiastic scratches. “i do think that post was onto something, though. they said their alpha was too content, right? our joonie is content with us, enough for this to happen.”
namjoon’s tail thumped even harder, but the quiet oof yoongi let out when it hit his lap had namjoon spinning around, worriedly sniffing at him and offering his lap apologetic snuffles. he was appeased when yoongi clicked his tongue and scritched his cheek, kissing the soft fluff of his ear and laughing quietly when he flicked it, tickled.
“let’s migrate to the living room, hm?” yoongi suggested, groaning quietly as he pushed himself up. “we’re not young anymore, and there are much more comfortable places than the foyer floor.”
jin pouted. “speak for yourself, i’m more young and spry than i’ve ever been—”
when he stood mid-protest, the rest following soon after, namjoon spun around in happy circles and made himself dizzy enough to nearly fall over when he stopped, though his tail continued to wag and he continued to pant like it hadn’t thrown him off at all.
“i call joon-hyung—” jungkook said.
“none of that!” jin huffed. “look at him, he’s big enough to be a six-person pillow, we don’t need to fight over him.”
jungkook sighed, resting a hand on namjoon’s head. “okay. i call his tummy.”
“i want his tummy!” jin whined.
“i thought you said—”
“i know what i said! i’m pack omega—”
“i’m pack baby—”
(when they both ended up snuggled into his belly, the others all equally, or at least almost equally, comfortably snuggled up around namjoon, all silly arguments they might have started were chased away by soft grumbles from namjoon’s chest and resounding omegan purrs from all around him.
and when they fell asleep without even noticing and woke up to namjoon, very much human, very much naked, very much smiling so prettily in his sleep—
“i had the best dream,” he mumbled as he woke, turning his face into jimin’s loving palm.
“we can talk about it later,” jimin giggled. “wake up a little first, we’ll see how much was really a dream.”
namjoon nodded, looping an arm around jimin’s waist and pulling him close. “in a couple minutes.”
“in a couple minutes,” jimin cooed. “sounds good to me.”)
