Work Text:
Saki’s eyes opened to the dim first bits of sunlight. It was early, she could hear the first few birds beginning to chirp and dip into songs, the rustles of leaves outside her window sounded consistent with the rhythmic hopping of a rabbit just enjoying the dawn before quieting down for the day.
She took in a deep breath, becoming suddenly aware of a heaviness over her chest. She sat up as much as she could and found Shiho’s arm curled around her. Not that she could move much, as Ichika had chosen to use her upper chest as a pillow of sorts. Her hair spilled over the side of the bed.
Saki put her head back down, only then realizing her pillow of choice had been Honami, who curled around them like a cat, like the shape of a crescent moon.
It was warm, at least. She would have thought it a little too warm, but in this situation it was a comfortable toastiness akin to sitting next to a fireplace and holding her hands out to the fire, closer to the comfort of hot chocolate and sweaters than uncomfortable summer sun.
Something in her craved movement - to get up and get going. She felt her fingers desiring to hit the keys on her keyboard idly so she’d be able to present a melody she liked by the evening, or perhaps just make breakfast and have some quiet moments to herself.
However, she knew that even if it wasn’t quite as quiet when the others woke up, it’d be less lonely. Perhaps it was clinginess, but she preferred to think of it as making up for lost time. The problem with getting up early and making herself a warm meal was that her girlfriends wouldn’t be sitting across the table from her.
She felt Shiho’s arm tighten around her as her girlfriend stirred just slightly - and then went limp again, like nothing happened, having taken in none of the waking world. Her body shook just a little, trying to hold back the urge to giggle. She wasn’t sure what other reaction she was supposed to have, admiring a sight all to herself that was just so cute.
The next thing she noticed was the smiles on everyone’s faces. Even in her sleep, Ichika grinned like it was her birthday, like the world was cheering for her. Honami’s smile was more soft, more like a stamp of approval by a loving parent, like a smile given to reassure a scared toddler who she bent down to talk to. Shiho did it discreetly, hair falling over her face to almost hide it as if it had been placed there; her smile was subtle as it just barely curled the edges of her lips like it was shy to show itself.
Saki knew, even without a mirror, she was smiling herself.
It was pleasantly warm, even though the light coming through the window told the story of grey skies full of clouds. Perhaps it only made it feel more cozy.
She made a mental note for herself that she’d make them all hot cocoa in the morning, imagining the warmth dragging on for longer and kisses planted with warm lips.
It wasn’t time for it to be morning. Not quite yet.
She drifted back off to sleep to savor it a bit longer, knowing this was exactly where she should be.
