Work Text:

was it really a dream?

was it really a dream if they had to say sorry?

was it really a dream if they took Berdly to the hospital?

why is he still not awake?

when i dream

all i see

is Glowing Snow,

drifting, slowly and surely

nothing but snow,

My Snow.

Kris told me to cast a spell i didn't know.

and, for just a moment, i swore,

i went blind.

it was like

It was like that night. That night, five years ago.

Kris,

You and I found her, lying in a ditch, alone and completely still in the relentless sea of white blanketing our vision, blanketing the ground, blanketing everything.

And there was a thorn. A thorn in her side.

Last Christmas, five years ago, I didn't understand. I couldn't have ever understood why Dess had become so distant. Why she looked so tired. She had just gotten into college, right? She should be excited!

But, she told me one night, it was like, like in Dragon Blazers, with that secret we'd found together during one of our many rebellious late night sessions.

She was used up.

I didn't know. I didn't know how to help. I wanted

i wanted so badly

just to see her smile again

but Last Christmas, five years ago,

Asriel came home, remember? He and Dess, they went somewhere,

somewhere neither of us saw.

but somehow,

when they came back the next morning for the family gathering, Azzy was all shaken, and Dess...

she said she needed to go home. wasn't she already home?

but she kept walking

and kept walking

and then she vanished.

...kris.

kris, why

why does this feel the same?

you took the thorn out of my side, just when i was about to go home.

but i was already home.

where i was going,

i don't know. and that scares me, kris.

where else is home?

and is everything... is everything okay?

i wish

i wish, when i see you at church tomorrow,

that things can go back to normal. but i have this horrible feeling,

that the "dream" wasn't a prank.

that you aren't really sorry

berdly won't get better

and the thorn...

kris.

kris, i know you can't hear my thoughts, but...

please. we saw what happened that night, right? that wasn't a "dream," too?

please. don't make me go back.

don't put the thorn back.

because i fear if you do,

it'll be just like Last Christmas,

Five years ago.

except, this time...

i'll be the one making the snow.

but i don't-
