Chance drags Guest on his midnight misadventure

Notes:

Yo toughluck nation I’m back with another fic 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Title is from chapter 204 or eps 63 of kurokos basketball (the teiko arc broke me….)
This was supposed to be released way earlier but I got distracted playing daybreak and forsaken.,,,… some of the convenience store scene is inspired by the colored panel from volume 1 of the summer hikaru died (check out the manga and the anime that is coming out soon, it’s a goated serie for horror lovers)
Oh yeah this fic is written in present tense since I’m trying something new so if the wording is weird, I would like to apologize for that 😞
Oh i almost forgot but I was also inspired by @Kar57087502 (aka yourlocalworstnightmare) toughluck art on twitter

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The sheets shuffles, indicating someone has left their bed. Guest couldn’t get a blink of sleep so his eyes followed the shadow of the figure.

A ray of light from the hotel hallway crept its way into the room and for a split second, Guest saw who the shadow of the figure was.

It was Chance.

Just what the hell is he doing up at this time?

Guest knew that the gambler was anything but sober and needed rest, the dude literally drank the night away and it got so bad to the point they couldn’t even walk properly and needed the help of both Guest and Elliot to get him back to the hotel room he and Chance shared.

Concern quickly grew on him and without thinking much about how he’s going to get Chance back to bed or if he’s going to get a good night's sleep, he quickly threw on his sandals and rushed to the elevator. Chance is indeed a hasty person, even when they are drunk.

As he makes his way to the hotel lobby, his eyes lock with Chance’s eyes and quickly makes his way to the drunk sentinel.

”What the hell are you doing here! You’re supposed to be sleeping!”

”Dude can you please take me to the beach? I think I lost somethin’ back there”

”We can deal with that in the morning, now get back to bed.”

Guest grabs Chance’s arm and drags them to the elevator but Chance refuses to move and uses all of his strength to stay in his place.

”Please Guest, I need to go there right now!” Chance says in a whiny voice, tugging Guest’s hard forearm, looking dazed as ever

This is one of the rare times Guest get to see Chance like this, all desperate over him controverting their request but no matter how much he tries, he can’t deny his lover’s request.

”Fine, we’ll go there, but as long as you promise me to go back to bed”

”Thank you, Mr. Soldier! I promise to follow your orders!” Chance says with a smile on their face.

Guest gets out of the car and helps Chance on his feet. Chance was a different kind of drunk, cause who the hell drags their boyfriend to the beach at 2 am? But what Guest was most surprised about is the fact that the beach is still open at this time of day.

The wind quickly accelerates through the palm trees, giving the air a pleasant breeze, just what Guest needed to ease his mind though that feeling quickly died down as Guest remembers he still got a not so sober gambler to take care of.

Guest quickly makes his way to Chance to check on what the gambler was missing, he’s going to admit, running in the sand with sandals while barely getting a blink of sleep is not for the weak.

”Chance, did you find what you needed? I think they might kick us out soon”

Chance left his squatting position and stood face to face with Guest, lifting their arm to show him the item that apparently holds great significance to Chance.

”yeah I did! what do you think?”

Chance holds up a big seashell, smiling like a proud pirate finding gold.

The breeze was more aggressive than ever and the tides inch closer to the shore. The moon was at its peak, sending rays of light from above, reflecting the ocean and its waves. Guest’s attention soon left the shell that Chance was holding with pride and it shifted towards the gambler instead. His heart beats rapidly, has Chance always looked that beautiful?

Their silver strands entangle with the wind, smile illuminating under the luminous moonlight. They are still in their beach clothes, floral shirt and black swimming shorts ruffling through the summer night breeze, being so drunk never gives them the chance to change but Guest is glad that it was like that and oh god that look on his face, eyes scintillating and they landing on Guest and Guest only.

Guest didn’t realise but since when did he stand so close to Chance? Did the wind push him closer?

“Hey G, I think the view looks nice, mind takin’ a picture of me?”

“Uh yeah sure”

The warmth from the gambler soon fades away as they run closer to the ocean’s shore, tripping a bit since he isn’t fully sober yet. Sea water seeps through their feet like an unexpected dance. He gestures his hand into a peace sign, grinning towards the camera like nothing else matters other than this moment and if you look close enough, you could see visible dimples on their face.

The veteran angled the phone toward the scenery in front of him, it feels like he’s in a movie. He doesn’t want this to end, and snaps a picture.

“Hey, you done? What’s takin’ so long?”

“Yeah sorry, here”

Chance runs to Guest, shoulders brushing as they lower their head to look at the picture, his lips forming a smirk, giving Guest the approval.

“Wow dude, I never knew you were this good at takin’ pictures! Hey, how bout’ we take one together?”

Guest quickly takes out his phone and angled so the phone can capture the two sentinels.

*snaps*

Yeah this would make a good wallpaper for his phone.

“Chance, stop putting your entire body weight on me. We’re almost there”

“But Guest! The heat is unbeeearble! It feels like I can’t walk any longeerrr!”

The time was what? 3? 4 am? Yeah the soldier lost track of time but it didn’t really matter anyway. The two have been walking for god knows how long in the midst of a scorching hot summer night in July, in the hunt for ice cream to cool off. At first, the walk was windy, the leaves from the trees nearby gave them that refreshing breeze to keep going but as time passed the breeze died down, leaving the two sentinels drenched in sweat.

At last, the two find the convenience store that they were looking for and quickly rush into the store to escape the heat. Luminous blue lights greets them as they push the door open. No cashier was there to greet them, “must be in the supply room then” Guest thought to himself.

Chance stops clinging onto Guest and runs into the isles of shelf like a kid in a candy store, eyeing everything that piques his interest, Guest quickly follows after. The gambler soon finds the freezer where the store keeps all the ice cream, their eyes glancing at the last popsicle laying in the freezer.

“Now this must be my lucky day! There’s only one cola flavour popsicle left!”

His hand pushes the freezer door open and snatches the popsicle. Realization soon hits his head as he realizes that this was the last ice cream left in the freezer. “Guest said he was really cravin’ a popsicle on the way here and this’s the last one..” The gambler then looks back at the popsicle and realises that it was one of those popsicles that is meant to be shared.

“Hey how bout i give you the other half?”

“If you insist then sure”

The veteran soon went his own direction in the hunt for coffee. He has to stay awake the whole day somehow right?

Guest soon stumbles upon the drink fridge and grabs himself an ice coffee and goes to pay for the drink. When he’s at the checkout counter, he finds Chance holding a basket full of snacks and their other hand occupying a soda can.

“Dude. Breakfast starts in like an hour.”

“Well, this is my breakfast”

Guest sighs “alright then..”

The two pay for their things and leave the convenience store. As the two sentinels left the store, they were greeted with clear blue skies and the sun shining in their direction. Just how long did they spend being in that store? They both decided to sit on a bench of some run down bus stop that isn’t relevant anymore.

The gambler takes out the popsicle from the plastic bag with the snacks and rips it open, they then break the popsicle and hand it to the soldier.

“Here, take it”

“Thanks”

.

“Chance, are you feeling better now?”

“Yeah, as long as you're here”
