Chapter Text
I looked at the sheet music that was currently in my hands, daydreaming. Tuesdays, ugh… what a weird day, am I right? Why do they even exist? Today was the day where students at out would hand in their weekly tryouts for my band, only for them to either fail miserably, desperately try to hit on me or my friends, or not even show up.
“Hamano!” I heard a voice call, I looked up and turns out it was just another one of my classmates giving me a sheet. “Thanks, remember to show up after class!” I told them as they were walking off, before sighing. I started to daydream again…
“Ann? Earth to Ann!” I snap out of my trance once again, only to realize that Saran and Risaki were right in front of me! “Oh, hey guys!” I greeted them happily, watching them grab some chairs and sit down next to me.
“What’s wrong Ann? You seem a bit under the weather? Somethin’ on your mind?” Risaki asked me. I shook my head. “Nope.”
“Did anyone hand in their papers?” Saran asked me, so I nodded. “Tsk, I bet they ain’t even gonna show up,” Risaki predicted snarkily, while Saran just shook her head. Suddenly, Risaki leaned her head against my desk. “UGH! We’re never gonna find anyone! We should just disband at this point… There’s no hope left…” She groaned while letting Saran pat her back. “Risa… Don’t say that. You know we’ll find someone eventually.” Saran reassured her.
“But we literally had half of the school try to sign up!” Risaki pointed out. Saran rolled her eyes. “Well, we’ll find someone eventually. Right Ann?”
“Mhm!” I nodded. I saw a bit of Risaki’s face brighten up a bit. Unexpectedly though, the bell rings. So we all scramble to get to our spots before the teacher walks in. But instead of the teacher coming in, a random girl came strutting in with the teacher following behind her. Instantly, the class erupted into whispers and such.
“Class, today we have a new student. I’m sorry that I have told you last minute, as this was quite unexpected.” The teacher announced, before turning over to the new girl. I watched him mouth to her what seemed to be ‘introduce yourself’ since she started to turn to the class.
“Hello, my name is Mei Moriwaki. I just moved here a few days ago. I… I hope I can get along with you all well!” She said, before smiling warmly. I heard some of my classmates make comments about her, such as, “She’s really pretty,” or “She seems nice,” and also, “I wanna be her friend!” I had to admit, I totally agreed with them.
The teacher quickly shushed them all by clearing his throat. “Moriwaki, you can sit next to Hamano right there.” He told her. I watched as she walked over and sat in the desk right next to me, and she SMILED AT ME AND WAVED! I awkwardly smiled back and waved.
As the teacher started his lesson, I couldn’t help but feel eyes on me…
After class, as me, Saran, and Risaki start to get our lunch out of our bags, we watch as everyone rushes over to try and sit with the new girl.
“Man, that new girl sure is something!” Risaki commented. “She better not believe she’s all that just because everything’s coming up roses for her!”
“Don’t say that Risa,” Saran told her, “Give her some time, she just got here.” Saran crossed her arms and shook her head at Risa.
“Aw, c’mon Sara! Someone has to put her in her place.” Risaki said, before turning towards me. “Y’know, Ann, I’ve noticed that you seemed to take an interest in her… What of it?” I watched as Saran nodded in agreement.
“Um… well, I just… Want to become friends with her, that’s all!” The two look at eachother, then back at me. I let out a sigh. “Okay fine… I was wondering if we could recruit her for our band.”
Suddenly, Risaki bursts into laughter. “Oh-Oh my gosh… Y-You really think— Think that she’ll want to j-join our band?!” Risaki asked, clutching her stomach. “Y-You must be kidding m-me right now—“ Saran elbows her in her side, and Risaki immediately regains all seriousness. “I mean that’s a pretty good idea.”
I gave Saran a quick smile. “I know, I know, by why not just give it a chance? We could hand her a sheet atleast.”
I watch as Saran goes into her thinking mode, then she shakes her head. “I’m sorry Ann, I know it’s a good idea, but she probably doesn’t have much experience. Hell, I doubt that she would show up either…” My face dropped as she continued.
Aw man… I guess she was right. I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up from now on. “Let’s head over to the band room.”
