Work Text:
‘‘It’s time to go to bed Hanna.‘‘ Brick said to the little girl sitting at their kitchen table. She looked tired with the bags under her eyes.
“But daaad, you said I could watch Frozen today. You promised.“, argued the little girl while getting up from her chair. Hanna loved frozen. Brick knew it was most likely because of Blossom‘s ice-powers.
“Fine.“, he caved in. “But before that you go wash up and change, after frozen you go straight to bed. Okay?“
She nodded and walked to her Bedroom to do as asked of her.
Walking out of their Bedroom changed and washed, Hanna took course toward the couch on which Brick sat ready to start the movie.
Like most kids Hanna fell asleep toward the end of the movie. Brick just sat there for a moment, just looking at her.
Then he decided to just carry her to bed. When he laid her down and tucked her in she stirred a little.
Right at him looked two round Pink eyes, indicating him she didn’t want him to leave just jet. So Brick didn’t, instead he sat down at her bedside.
Sometimes he wished he could still tuck her fiery fiery red hair behind her tiny ears. But his daughter hab gone from an energetic, pale redhead to a tired even paler child with no hair.
If Brick had the energy he’d beg and plead with every god: “Please don’t take my sunshine away“
“Morning sleepy head.“ Brick just turned around, pulling the covers over his head.
“None of that Brick, ist time to get up.“ With that the covers were lifted and he finally opened his eyes. Blossom sat up in their bed, her red hair a total mess and pink eyes still tired.
“Morning, Bloss.“ He mumbled, followed by: “Cuddles?“ Blossom just layed back down and let Brick pull her into him.
After laying there for some time Blossom spoke again: “You know we’re gonna have to get up eventually.“
Brick just gave a soft: “Hmm.“ In agreement and pulled her even closer.
About five minutes after initially waking up, he heard fast little footsteps on their way to their room. And just before Brick could say something Hanna threw open their door.
“Morning!“ Hanna practically shouted, before her parents could even sit up. As much as Brick loved their daughter, he really didn’t understand how someone with his DNA could be a morning person.
When he got a look at their daughter, she had long red hair.
Brick startles awake. Back at his daughters bed. His daughter that lokes like her mother, the woman he dreamt of holding. His daughter who he’d give his life for but couldn’t. Life was cruel and takes whatever it desires.
So Brick does the only thing he can at this moment, he lets his head fall and cries silently.
He cries because he lost his Lover.
He cries because his daughter lost her mother.
He cries because he couldn’t save Blossom and he can’t save his daughter from cancer either.
