Work Text:

Sleep is something that Kurama has slowly gotten used to since becoming human. When he had been Youko, sleep was unnecessary. He rested, yes, but he did not sleep.

As a human teen, Kurama needs sleep more than he cares to admit. If he exhausts himself, then his mother will worry, so Kurama knows better than to do such a thing. Still, it’s been an odd thing to get used to. Sleeping after many, many years of having not done so.

Even harder to get used to is sleeping next to someone else.

Kurama’s always been a solitary creature, even if he’s been living aside his mother this whole time. He keeps to himself, and that includes his bedroom. Sharing his space with another person is strange.

Despite this, somehow, Hiei makes it easier than it should be. There may be tension between them, always lingering, there is a comfortableness with the demon that Kurama finds nowhere else.

He’s still tired, even as the shining sun wakes up from his slumber. Kurama blinks slowly, letting his eyes adjust to the light. The outline of Hiei’s body comes into view, practically glowing said light. His eyes are closed, and with the way his chest is rising and falling, Kurama knows he’s not sleeping. He doesn’t need to.

Smiling to himself, Kurama pushes himself up until he’s sitting, watching as Hiei’s eyes open at the same time.

Crimson eyes meet Kurama’s, gaze sharp, and Kurama can’t stop himself from chuckling.

Leaning down, Kurama brushes his lips across Hiei’s cheek, relishing in the way Hiei’s face immediately heats up. “Good morning, Hiei.”

Hiei huffs out, warm breath hitting Kurama’s cheek, before he grabs Kurama’s upper arm and pulls him down into a proper kiss.
