Work Text:

-Kurapika’s pov-

“Y/n L/n! Pleased to meet all of you!” She introduced herself cheerfully. Beaming brightly at all of us, making it hard for us not to smile back at her.

A few nights before the auction, the boss hired another bodyguard at the last minute. The woman he hired was his close friend's daughter. I found that out later. Her nen ability must’ve been the reason for her being hired last minute, of course. It was…fascinating. I hadn’t heard anything like it before or anything close to it. Seeing it first hand was even more amusing.

When I saw her ability, I couldn’t help but be captivated by her. Other than her nen ability I didn’t know anything about her. For an unknown reason, I wanted to know who this mysterious woman was. I needed to know…

From that day on, every chance I’d get my eyes were glued onto her.

Every feature of hers stayed ingrained in my mind. Like a memory I’d never want to forget or even let fade. Her pretty (e/c) eyes, the sparkle of her eyeshadow on her eyelids, her nose, cheeks, her lips… Her nails painted a new color every 2-3 days to match her outfits.

Her hairstyles varied everyday I saw her as well. I enjoyed seeing each one of them. I liked seeing her hair down more than any of the other styles. Even if it was just half up-half down. It’d bounce with each step or quick movement she’d make. Like it had its own freedom. Its own mind and life. I had never wanted to touch something so badly… I wanted to feel how soft it looked, let it coil around my fingers. Twirling it between my fingers then letting it bounce back up like a spring.

I even began to notice the little things about her.

I’d watch her finger pull out a strand of hair to begin twirling it. I noticed she only did that when she was deep in thought or zoned out completely. If she was nervous, she’d twist and fidget with the small pearl necklace she wore everyday without fail. The little side glances she’d do whenever she got annoyed with someone.

I had never paid so much attention to someone, someone I didn’t even speak to often. I felt too embarrassed to speak to her… My body felt like needles were poking me every time I even thought about going up and talking to her. The only way I could talk to her without feeling like my body was gonna heat up and explode was when discussing important things for work. Like any normal coworker.

I had to keep reminding myself that my work wasn’t the time to sit and stare. I needed to focus.

“Your heart is racing again…”

Melody’s soft whisper made me snap out of my daydream. We were in the middle of a meeting and I hadn’t even noticed that I was full on staring at Y/n again. My attention divided completely this time to look down at Melody.

“Is it..?” I found myself questioning out loud. Melody began to smile. I had no clue as to why until her next words.

“Yes.. Your heart races whenever she talks..” Melody replied quietly so no one else could hear. “Let your heart guide you, Kurapika…” And with that, she went quiet…

I began to question her words from then on.

Let my heart guide me…

Hm…

The next morning I woke up earlier than usual.

As fate would bring it, Y/n was also awake with me. It seemed she woke up even earlier than me. I watched for a while, she was just making herself a cup of coffee. I finally felt my feet begin to move. I didn’t need to say anything first. Her smile greeted me first… The very smile I thought about before I closed my eyes every night.

“Good morning, Kurapika! You’re up earlier than usual” she pointed out.

I hummed in response, keeping my face as still and calm as I could. “I went to bed earlier..” I answered simply. “Why are you up this early, Y/n?”

The (e/c) girl yawned before replying. Taking a quick sip of her coffee. “I couldn't sleep at all night… I thought some coffee would help. Would you like some as well?”

“No, that's alright.” I declined, waving my hand.

She nodded and took another sip. Her lipgloss sticking to the mug she was drinking out of.
It was silent between us for a good minute. Melody’s words flashed in my head again. “Let your heart guide you”.

“Y/n..” I managed to mumble out. My voice was shakier than I wanted it to sound. She turned her head towards me with curiosity, setting her mug down onto the counter. “Um.. Would.. Would you like to go on a quick walk with me? To burn some time before everyone else wakes up..” I asked softly. This time I kept my voice steady. Ignoring the burning feeling around my body.

I watched her eyes light up and her sweet smile beamed up at me. “Of course! I’d love to accompany you!”

The two of us stood side by side as we walked through the now quiet town of York New. The sun was just now rising and the only people out were people who were going to work and setting up their shops and stores. Our conversion hadn’t ended since we walked out the gate. I didn’t want her to stop talking, I hadn’t gotten to talk to her like this and I didn’t want her to stop anytime soon. To my liking, she hadn’t, she went on and on about random topics or things that interested her. While I listened, occasionally adding my 2 little cents.

“Have you ever been down to the bridge, Kurapika?” She asked me, tilting her head up at me as we continued walking through the streets.

I shook my head no. “I don’t have many chances to look around and explore. I’m here for work and nothing else..” I stated honestly.

“I understand.. But now you have free time! So let me show you before the sun rises completely!” She said excitedly before grabbing my hand and running off with me behind her. My eyes widened as I felt her hand grasp mine, I let her pull me forward all the way to the bridge.

My eyes landed onto the sunrise in front of me once reaching the middle of the bridge. We leaned against the bridge's edge, looking down at the blue water just a few feet below us. The wind blew lightly through my hair. I could feel goosebumps sitting against my arm now. Her hand had let go of mine once we reached the bridge. We stood there, watching the sun begin to rise up. I turned to face her, for a quick glance. The orange and pink light from the sun hitting her face at the perfect angle. For some reason, my mouth began to move, I wasn’t like this with anyone before…

“You look nice,” I said simply. She smiled and mumbled a ‘thank you’. Her smile made me want to melt…

A moment of silence passed between us again. Wind blowing through our hair, the water splashing down below us, while the sun began to rise up more and more signaling another day had begun.

“Do you like me, Kurapika?” The (h/c) girl asked out of nowhere. My eyes widened and I began to stutter out a reply.

“U-um.. I-I wouldn’t say that.. More so…admiring?” I said stupidly.

That was so dumb… I should’ve just said yes.

She giggled softly at my pathetic answer. “That's basically a yes, is it not?” The girl asked with a small smirk.

“Yes…” I answered, embarrassed I had been called out.

“I thought so… I see you staring at me from time to time.” She admitted, “Admiring huh?” she repeated with a light chuckle.

I decided to just admit to what I thought about her. “Your nen ability is what caught my eye. It's unique. I haven’t seen anything close to it…” I complimented her.

“You think?” She asked as she began twisting a pearl from her pearl necklace between her fingers. Her cheeks flashing a small hint of redness. “I can say the same for you, Kurapika…”

I felt a deep sense of confidence with those words. Let your heart guide you. I moved closer to her, my body now facing hers. “You’re the first person I’ve felt this strongly about…” I admitted, “What do you think about me, Y/n? I’d like to know.”

I wanted to know how she felt. If she felt the same burning sensation I felt when I looked at her and her pretty features… How shy I felt whenever she’d singled me out among the rest. How I could stare at her for days and still never get bored.

She repeated my question back to me, “What do I think of you….?” I hummed in response. She turned and faced me completely now. “I’ll show you…”

Before I could even register what she meant- I was being dragged down to meet her (color) lips. I could taste the (flavor) of lipgloss she had on. Her lips just as soft as I imagined… My heart raced like never before. Her hands were placed against the sides of my face, her hands felt so nice against me…

I didn’t want to stop. At all…

My hand slid up to her wrist, keeping her hand where they were at on my cheek. My thumb gilded back and forth against the warmth of her skin. My other hand held the back of her head, my fingers tangling into her soft curls. All I could think of was how good she smelled and how her lips tasted. I wanted more… I deepened the kiss more, my tongue connecting with hers in a slow, gentle rhythm that made me hum. I could taste the coffee on her tongue still and the minty taste of toothpaste on her teeth still. My body relaxed into hers. Everything I was doing felt right, it felt natural more than anything.

I’d never imagine this was how I’d spend my morning… I wasn’t complaining at all though.

We stayed like that, wrapped in each other sharing passionate kisses for what felt like forever. I wouldn’t have stopped if I hadn’t felt my phone ring down in my pocket. I, unwillingly, pulled away and slowly began to take my hands off her. I could still feel the warmth of her hands on my face.

I put my phone up to my ear, “Y-yes, hello?” I said into the phone. My heart still beating out of my chest from what just happened. “Mhm. Yes. Be right there.” I said before hanging up and shoving my phone back into my pocket.

“We gotta go huh?”

“Yes it seems everyone has awoken…” I said, trying to hide my disappointment.

“Right then..” She nodded calmly, waiting for me to begin walking. I could see the same disappointment on her face as well. “I’d rather not get yelled at, we’d better start moving”

“Mm, of course..” I nodded in agreement with her.

This time, I was the one to take her hand. I watched out of the corner of my eye, her smile softly. Her smile made me smile as well, and we began walking back with the sun now fully in the sky. The pretty orange and pink are gone now and the sun is now a big bright yellow ball up in the blue sky.
