Chapter Text
Marker had everything prepared to confess to Fanny. Well, nearly everything. He had a block of her favourite mint chocolate, he had a bouquet of bright blue hydrangeas, and a nice new fuzzy black jacket for her. He'd planned to meet her later tonight in a little park not that far away. Now all he needed to do was pick the perfect outfit.
What would Fanny find perfect? Would she like something simple and nice? Or would Fanny like something fancy? Maybe something fun? He knew what she liked to wear, but what did she like to see others wear? If only he knew. Then he wouldn't have to worry so much about what to wear. Then he wouldn't have to worry about being perfect.
"Marker, hurry up!" Tree called out from outside of Marker's room. "I don't want to leave Black Hole waiting for me, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave Fanny waiting for you, especially not today."
"Right! Right! Sorry Tree," Marker apologised as he began to quickly search through his closet for a good outfit. "I just don't know what to wear."
Tree groaned and barged into Marker's room. Marker could tell that Tree was getting impatient with him. Tree grabbed a grey t-shirt and denim shorts out of Marker's closet and handed them to him. They were just the first things he'd seen, so they were the first things he'd grabbed. Marker looked at the clothes for a moment and sighed.
"Treeeee, what if this is too basic?" Marker asked and frowned. He didn't want to be too basic for Fanny.
Tree rolled his eyes and looked through Marker's closet again. He grabbed a light green hoodie, cargo jeans, and a blue scarf that Fanny had knit. It'd been a while since Marker had worn Fanny's scarf and if there was any best time to do so it was now. Tree handed Marker the clothes in his hands. Marker forced a nervous smile as Tree left the room so that he could get changed.
"Will these be perfect enough for Fanny?" Marker questioned to himself. He could only hope so. They had to be.
Once Marker had finished getting changed, he stared into his mirror for a while. Did this hoodie make him look like a child? Did it look strange with the cargo jeans? Would Fanny like this? What if she found him weird? Worse, what if it didn't even matter what he wore, and that she'd find him weird no matter what? Marker pushed these thoughts aside. He knew she wouldn't think of him as weird. He smiled at himself in the mirror, this time his smile was more confident. He felt ready to go see Fanny. He was ready to confess his feelings.
"Come on, we haven't got all day, Marker. I'm getting tired of waiting," Tree complained.
Marker grabbed his favourite yellow backpack and stuffed Fanny's chocolate and fluffy jacket in there. He gently grabbed the hydrangea bouquet in the same hand as his backpack, which he hadn't bothered to put on. Marker quickly rushed out the door to Tree. Tree smiled softly at Marker as they headed outside.
A while later, Tree and Marker were sitting in Tree's car, and while Tree drove, Marker asked, "Do you think I look perfect for Fanny?"
This question took Tree by surprise. He responded, "What? You look great. I didn't think you'd be the type to care about looking perfect though, and you don't have to look perfect, Marker. Fanny isn't needing you to be perfect."
"I wouldn't usually. It's just, Fanny is," Marker told Tree, "so I think I should have to be perfect too."
Fanny was the perfect girl in Marker's eyes. She was brave, smart, and even if she got mad at them pretty often, she was really caring about others. She stood up for what she thought was right, and she didn't hesitate to do so. Marker admired that about her. He admired that about her a lot. Not only did she have an amazing personality but she was the prettiest person he knew. He loved her short brown hair, her lovely blue eyes, all the cool clothes she wore. She was perfect. He wanted to be just as perfect as her.
"Marker. Don't worry about being perfect. You've got this," Tree assured him as he stopped the car at the park.
