After the king's death, Queen Son YeJin is relentless to remain in power. Her stepson, Prince Ji Chang-wook, adores his childhood sweetheart, Prince Kim Jongin, and the two are are planning to marry soon. Queen YeJin learns from the royal astronomer that the prince's marriage could bring an end to her rule. As she practiced black magic, she devised a plan to stop the wedding by casting a spell on Prince Jongin, causing him to lose his memory. She is aware that only a true love's kiss will break the spell, so she arranges for Prince Jongin to be kidnapped and abandoned in the forest.
When Prince Jongin wakes up he wanders to a nearby village. He faints due to thirst and hunger. And that’s how Oh Sehun the village carpenter finds him. He takes pity on him and carries him to his small cottage. After Jongin revives, Sehun asks him about his whereabouts.
“I don’t remember anything.” answers Jongin. Seeing that he has lost his memory Sehun feeds and clothes him. He also calls him Kai. Sehun teaches Kai carpentry and soon Kai becomes his apprentice. While they work and live together, they fall in love. Kai finds Sehun caring, kind and handsome while Sehun had instantly fallen in love with his beauty. Kai is also gentle and loving. They decide to get married.
Meanwhile Prince Chang-wook who returns after a hunting trip, finds Prince Jongin missing. He comes to know of the Queen’s foul play from his commander Chanyeol. Chang-wook also finds out about the true love’s kiss from Queen YeJin’s servant. He sets in search of Prince Jongin. The servant informs the Queen about Prince Chang-wook pursuit. Fearing for the inevitable Queen YeJin too goes in search of Prince Jongin hoping to find him first. She takes a shape of small girl and sells flowers from village to village.
Sehun’s neighbors and friends organize a small party the night before the wedding. While dancing together Sehun kisses Kai’s forehead and confesses his undying love.
“From the moment I saw you, I thought to make you mine. I swear to love you till my last breath.” Overwhelmed with love Kai kisses Sehun’s cheeks. “I promise to love and support you till the day I die.” After the dance, Sehun is called away by one of his friend to oversee some arrangements. Left alone, Kai finds the pond near their house and sits down to rest his aching feet.
He sees a beautiful young girl’s reflection. He turns around and finds her offering a single stem of rose. When Kai accepts it, the thorn pricks his finger and blood oozes. He feels faint and while he is losing conscious, he sees the girl transform into Queen YeJin. He remembers everything. Kai realizes that he has been poisoned. “Why?” He asks. “Prince Chang-wook is on his way to find you. If you two marry then I will no longer be able to rule. So I had to kill you. Only true loves kiss will save you.”
Meanwhile there is a loud commotion. Prince Chang-wook and his commander Chanyeol have reached Sehun’s party. Seeing them, Queen YeJin tries to run only to be killed by commander Chanyeol. Prince Chang-wook finds Prince Jongin breathless. He bends down and cradles his head gently. “I am sorry love.” Sehun too reaches Kai but is stopped by commander Chanyeol. Sehun’s neighbor Baekhyun who saw everything, told Sehun about Kai being Prince Jongin and the spell. Prince Chang-wook tells the dying Jongin that only true loves kiss can save him.
Hearing that Sehun is heartbroken. All he wants is for his Kai is to be alive. He sees Prince Chang-wook kiss Prince Jongin. There is no effect. Prince Jongin’s body is lifeless and is slowly turning blue. Then Baekhyun gets an idea. He pushes Sehun near Prince Jongin’s body. “Kiss him Sehun. Only your love can revive him now. You saw that he was a Prince and within a moment decided he will live better off and sacrificed your love. Kiss him Sehun.”
Prince Chang-wook gets up and allows Sehun to hold Jongin’s body. Baekhyun then tells him, how Sehun found and nursed Kai back to health. After Sehun kisses Jongin for the first time, only his eyelids move. Baekhyun urges him to kiss him again. This time, Sehun kisses Jongin deeply. Kai awakens. He realizes that he loves only Sehun whose kiss had broken the spell and saved him. Kai kisses Sehun passionately.
“Your love saved me.” says Kai. Sehun kisses him again. Prince Chang-wook although heartbroken, gives them his blessings and leaves with commander Chanyeol. Kai tells Sehun that he wants to be known as Kai and not Prince Jongin. “Are you sure you want to give up your royalty?” asks Sehun. “Yes I want to be Kai your apprentice. I am happy now.” Sehun hugs him.
They get married the next day. Their friends Baekhyun, Kyungsoo and Minseok arrange for a beautiful cake and lovely wedding banquet. Thus Kai finds his true love in this tiny unknown village and lives happily ever after.
