Chapter Text
Theodosia Macmillan woke up to the familiar smell of eggs and sausage. Theodosia was cherishing her last summer before heading off to Hogwarts. She had received her expected letter only a week ago. She had been waiting for this day since she understood the concept of her magical powers. She made her way down the stairs of her family's ancestral home in the Scottish countryside.
“‘Morning darling,” Her father called out to his eldest child as she walked into the dining room. Her younger brother, Ernest, or Ernie, was already sitting at the table while her father read the latest copy of The Daily Prophet. As she walked behind him, her father kissed her on the cheek. She found her seat at the table as their house elf, Bessie, brought in the breakfast her mother had just made. Her mother followed Bessie out of the kitchen and sat down at the opposite side of the table from her husband. Bessie served the food to the family and then returned to the kitchen so they could enjoy their meal. “This looks delicious, Alba,” Callum called out to his wife. “Kids, tell your mother thank you for the food.”
“Thank you, mum.” Ernie and Theodisa called out in sync. Their mother just waved her hand with a small smile on her face.
“Ernie, would you like to accompany me and your sister to Diagon Alley today?” Alba asked him, he just nodded his head as his mouth was too full to answer with words. His older sister laughed at him as he continued shoving sausage into his mouth. The family soon finished breakfast, and Alba instructed the children to head back to their rooms to get ready for their day at Diagon Alley. As Theodosia looked through her closet, she picked out a medium wash pair of jeans that she rolled up and a dark blue polo. She tucked her polo into her jeans and grabbed a dark brown belt to match her ankle dragonhide boots. She put a blue headband over her hair to keep her blonde waves out of her face.
“Hurry up Thea!” Ernie called from downstairs. Theodosia rolled her eyes as she made her way down to the sitting room. Her mother and brother were waiting for her by the fireplace. Her mother grabbed some floo powder from the tray sitting on the fireplace mantle.
“Diagon Alley,” She called out, and the three stepped into the now green fire. The trio were now in The Leaky Cauldron. Alba quickly walked out, but Ernie fell over his sister, bringing them both to the ground.
“Get off me!” Theodosia shouted, and her brother just laughed, getting back onto his feet. He reached a hand out to his sister and pulled her up from the ground. She gave him a dirty look as they both took their mothers' hands and walked out of The Leaky Cauldron.
“What store first dear?” Alba asked her daughter. Theodosia pulled her letter out of her back pocket and looked at the list of required textbooks and items needed for her first year at Hogwarts.
“Flourish and Blotts,” She said back to her mother, reading over her letter once more,
‘Dear Miss Macmillan,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall’
Once again, Thedosia beamed at her letter. The trio walked into Flourish and Blotts. Thedosia walked around, taking it all in. She read over her list and grabbed the books she needed. They were then off to Ollivanders. She tried out many wands, but the one that inevitably suited her was a 10 ¾” beech wood wand with the core of a unicorn's hair. As they left he store, a boy around Theodosia's age with messy coffee-coloured hair that matched his eyes walked in. She turned to look back one more time before they left for lunch as she heard his father introduce him to Olivander.
“Mum?” Theodosia called out while taking a seat in the outdoor section of Alba’s favourite cafe in Diagon Alley.
“Yes dear?” She simply said.
“I know an owl is a more practical pet for my years at Hogwarts, but I was thinking I could get a cat?” She asked. The Macmillans had never had pets in their home except for the occasional bugs the children would drag in after hours of playing outside in the Scottish countryside.
“I don't see why not.” Her mother stated, Theodosia now wearing a big smile.
“That's so unfair, how come she gets a pet and I don't?” Ernie whined. Theodosia stuck her tongue out at him.
“You can have whatever your heart desires when you go off to Hogwarts, Son.” Ernie pouted in his seat.
After they finished with their lunch, they headed to Magical Menagerie, so Theodosia could pick out her furry companion for the next 7 years. Theodosia wandered about the store before finding a fluffy brown cat with a white stripe down her stomach and beautiful green eyes that was practically calling her name. She immediately knew that this cat was for her. She called over her mum, and Alba agreed that they would be a perfect fit. They took the cat to the counter, where Theodosia learned that she was a Ragdoll cat. She was instructed to go and find a collar for her new friend, and she found the most beautiful butter yellow that would pair perfectly with her brown coat.
“And a name?” The worker asked Theodosia
“Maisie.” She said. Her mum threw an arm around her daughter before Masise was handed over and laid in Theodosia's arms. Since Maisie could not wander around Diagon Alley with them, they decided it was time to head home for the day. They found their way back to The Leaky Cauldron and floo’d back to their house.
