Tokyo, 20. July 2021; 7 PM:
„Hey Omi-Kun, I’ve heard that you're dating Ushiwaka now. How is that going?” Hinata Shoyo asks.
Even though Kiyoomi knew this question would come up and he had tried to prepare himself, he still feels uncomfortable.
Kiyoomi sits in a crowded restaurant with what seems like the whole Japanese volleyball community that lives in Tokyo or somewhat close. They had all gathered in this restaurant to reunite with Hinata Shoyo, who was visiting Japan.
Last season Hinata got signed by an italian club and had started to play volleyball in Europe. Now the season was over and Hinata had returned home for the off season.
He had flown from Italy to Tokyo and had decided to use his first day in Japan to catch up with all his friends who lived in Tokyo or somewhere close. The restaurant was crowded with volleyball players from all over the country. Shoyo being the social butterfly was known to make friends easily. However, Kiyoomi was still shocked to see how many people were at the restaurant to meet up with him.
Right now it feels like all the eyes in the room are directed at Kiyoomi after Hinata had asked that question about his relationship with Wakatoshi. He clears his throat and answers. “It’s also nice to see you, Shoyo. Seems like you haven’t changed a bit. Still going straight to the point. Huh?”
Hinata Shoyo just smiled at him. “Well, I am only in Tokyo for one night. And since you don’t like to facetime or join or MSBY reunions on skype I don't really know how you have been. Tell me how you’re doing. Moreover, I have the feeling that you will want to leave this party as soon as possible. So I thought I would start with talking to you. Or am I not right?”
Kiyoomi frowns. Shouyou is right. He had already planned to leave the reunion immediately after the dinner. There were only a few people for whom he wa willingly willing to take on the stress that social events like these meant for him. Hinata Shoyo was one of them. Although they no longer played in a team, Hinata was widely recognised as one of Kiyoomi's favorite team mates. Much had happened since Hinata had left MSBY to play for his new team in Europe.
Kiyoomi was the only other former MSBY-player at the reunion. Since Shoyo had planned another reunion in Osaka, most MSBY players had decided to participate in that. Kiyoomi himself had considered joining the Osaka reunion. But after his change to the Adlers last December he had moved to Tokyo and it was easier to meet Shouyou in Tokyo. Moreover, Kiyoomi didn’t want to see Miya Atsumu again. They hadn’t really talked since their break up and Kiyoomi's move to Tokyo last year. And Kiyoomi wasn’t sure if Miya knew about his new relationship. Although if Shoyo, who lives in Italy, had heard about it, Miya probably had heard as well. After all, the Volleyball community in Japan was really small and news spread easily. The thought makes Kiyoomi frown even more.
“Is it that bad? You just keep frowning Omi-kun.” With that sentence Shoyo snaps him out of his thoughts. Kiyoomi tries to relax his face and forces himself to smile.
“No. It's not bad.” Kiyoomi answers.
“Wakatoshi is a very respectable partner. He respects all of my terms and conditions regarding a relationship. I am supposed to greet you from him. He would have loved to be here tonight. But he had to take care of a family affair in Miyagi. He suggested that the two of you could meet up in Miyagi while you visit your family there.”
“Yeah that’s a great idea. I will text him later.” Shoyo said. “So respectable you said. What does that mean, Omi-kun? To be honest I have a hard time imagining how Ushiwaka behaves as a lover. What made you fall for him?”
Kiyoomi sighs. He really hates to talk about his relationship. His cousin Motoya Komori is also attending the reunion and had just taken the spot next to him.
"Hey, come on Kiyo. Be a decent guy once and tell your dear friend Hinata a little bit about yourself and about your new sweetheart.”
Kiyoomi just rolls his eyes. “He is not “my sweetheart”” he muttered.
“If you don’t tell him. I will talk about it and I bet you will find that even more embarrassing.” Komori says, smirking.
“Fine.” Kiyoomi says “Well we have known each other since high school and met again when I moved back to Tokyo. He introduced me to other members of the Adler team.We were able to rekindle our old friendship ” Kiyoomi feels a slight blush creeping up. “and after a few weeks he asked me out on a date. We got along pretty well and started dating after our third date. When I say he is a respectable partner I mean that he is very responsible and considerate. He is the type of guy that holds the door open for you and buys you dinner. He is super reliable. When we plan on calling or to meet up. He is never late. Always on time. I can trust him to do the necessities like cleaning his flat, before I visite him. My parents really like him too. When I introduced them, my father and he got along really well. They are both interested in businesses and the stock market. So my father even invited him to join one of the corporal events. I think he is the first of my partners that got the honor to participate in such an event. He was also able to charm my mother. I think they text more than me and her do. They are both interested in cooking and charity events. So they have a lot to talk about. One could say things are going very well. It's the most stable relationship I have ever been in. So, yeah. It's fine. I am feeling fine." He concluded.
Shoyo looks at him for a long moment.
"What?" Kiyoomi asks
Shoyo and Komori exchange a look.
"What is it?" Kiyoomi repeats
"Man Kiyo. Have you listened to yourself... that was the most boring love story I have ever heard. Your parents like him?! He respects your conditions?! It sounds like you are talking about an arranged marriage or a business partner. That's not what Shoyo wanted to know. Tell us about the sex. What are his kinks? Or is the sex as monotonous as I imagine it? Give us some juicy details!!" Komori says, smirking at him. Shoyo nods enthusiastically.
Kiyoomi glares at the two of them. "I am not going to tell you anything about our intercourses.”he simply replies.
"Ooh come on Omi-kun just something..." Shoyo pleads. “Or is Ushiwaka not satisfying your needs?” Shoyo asks while wiggling his eyebrows.
Kiyoomi stares at his two friends. He really doesn't like talking about sex. And there wasn't really anything he could say to satisfy their curiosity. Their sex life was just normal. They would have sex every Sunday evening after they both had showered and used Kiyoomis anti-bacterial shower lotion. After a couple of tries they had found their routine and now they repeated that every sunday unless they had practice or an appointment.
“You two are too nosy. Though it's none of your business I may inform you that our,sex life is perfectly normal and it meets all my requirements and needs." he answers the question and sends both one of his famous death glares before he continues “I have told you more than enough about my relationship.”
“Ok. Ok.” Komori says “No need to be all glary with us. We are just worried for your happiness and ahhm… sexual satisfaction."
“Worried?” Kiyoomi asks.
“Well maybe not exactly worried. But I don't know you just seem so unexcited about the whole thing. Are you even happy?” Shoyo says “Don't get this the wrong way but when you and you know who dated you would always talk about all the naughty stuff you two did. Ushiwaka on the other hand is just so stoic and unemotional that it's hard to imagine him in a relationship.” Shoyo says.
„Well I really like that he is stoic and straight forward.” Kiyoomi replies. “He chooses his words very carefully. He says everything I need to know. He only gives me compliments when they are true and would never flirt with other people. That was a pleasant change compared to…” Kiyoomi didn’t finish the sentence. He didn’t have to. Shoyo and his cousin knew exactly who he was comparing Wakatoshi to. Miya Atsumu. His infamous ex-boyfriend who had a reputation for being an insatiable flirt. To underline the qualities of his new boyfriend Kiyoomi adds „and he is very romantic.“
"Oh yeah. Ushijima is a real casanova. I really didn't expect that from him.“ Komori intervenes “Tell Sho about the sappy shit he did to woo you."
“Oh really? I have trouble imagining that. What is the most romantic thing he has done for you so far?” Shoyo Befs.
Before Kiyoomi could answer, his cousin interrupts him.
"Ohh man Shoyo you should have seen Ushijika when they started dating. Every monday he bought a bouquet of roses for Kiyo and had them delivered to his looker. And on Fridays they have their date night. They always get dressed up to go to a fancy restaurant. Then once a month Ushijima does a surprise date night. What was it last month, Kiyo?"
„He took me to a private spa for a day, so that we could relax before our final match of the season.”
"I wish someone would do that for me." Komori signs "However mister ungrateful over here made such a fuss about the roses that Ushijima has stopped now.“
Kiyoomi scrunches his nose when he thinksä about the flowers and that the scent of the roses had been so strong that his whole flat had smelled.
Now Tendo, Wakatoshi's old team mate and friend, who sits across from Kiyoomi joins in the conversation. "Look at the face Sakusa-san is making. You don't know how lucky you are. Man, I wished I had a partner who brought me roses every week.“
Kiyoomi hates how that made him sound ungrateful.
"Well, I really appreciated the roses. But every week? That was just a waste of money and bad for the environment too. So I asked Wakatoshi to only buy me potted plants for special occasions. I know I couldn’t ask for anything better.“ Kiyoomi says with a side glance at Tendo.
"All I want to hear from you Omi-kun is that you are happy. You are happy with Ushiwaka right?" Shouyou said.
Kiyoomi just nods and tries to smile.
“Good. If you say so. I will believe you. It just felt strange ‘cause you seem so different now compared to when you and Tsum-Tsum started dating you know… I mean I am no one to judge, I have only seen you in that one relationship so far. But you guys pulled some crazy shit. Remember how you got together that night after the game against EJP? Wow. That was just another level of craziness.”
