Work Text:
Mac watched himself in the mirror and wondered why he was even there, wearing a blue suit and all, when that was the last place he wanted to be.
"Should I keep the sunglasses?" Jack asked from outside the small cabin.
Mac sighed. "If you want."
"Orange doesn't fit much with black, thought."
"Since when do you care about matching colors?"
"Well, excuse you, I do care now."
Mac took a deep breath, keeping his eyes on the mirror, dreaming a portal would materialize in it and allow him to escape.
"Come on, let's see how you look."
"You saw me in a suit already."
"Come ooon…"
Mac rolled his eyes and opened the cabin to step outside, "It's not even a smoking—" His voice died at the view of Jack, standing a few feet away wearing a black suit, with his sunglasses in the chest pocket. He looked damn good in it.
Jack looked him up and down, and smiled when their eyes met. "Fancy."
Mac looked away, pretending to be busy fixing his jacket. "You too."
"Do I?" Jack made a spin, spreading his arms a bit. "I never see myself looking good in a suit."
"That's what you get for wearing t-shits most of the time."
"Touchè." Jack moved closer, studying him. "Hold on, let me…"
Mac's body went rigid when Jack grabbed his tie to fix the knot. He kept his eyes on Jack's chest.
"You look too good in a suit, it's not fair," Jack complained.
"Still have problems fighting with my tie."
"True."
Mac watched Jack's hand holding his tie, even after he was done. He didn't dare look up.
"You think I'm going crazy?" Jack asked, voice worried. "This is crazy, isn't it?"
Mac swallowed and then met his gaze. "It's a wedding." It hurt to even say it aloud. "Your wedding. It'd be weird if it wasn't crazy."
Jack took a deep breath and let go of his tie. "Look, I know we didn't have a lot of time to talk—"
"About what?"
"I mean, I came back just a month ago…"
"And told me you're getting married." Mac nodded. "Crazy. But it's fine."
Jack looked sadly at him. "You're angry."
"I'm not."
"You are."
"I'm here to try my groomsman suit, aren't I?"
"Because I asked you to."
"And I said yes."
"Why?"
Mac wasn't expecting that question, and was taken aback.
"Why did you say yes?"
"You're my best friend. You want me to say no?"
"I don't know. I…" Jack took a step back. "It feels like there's something you want to tell me but you're holding back."
Does he know? Mac felt a rush of panic run through his body. "Like what?"
Jack kept staring at him.
Mac couldn't deal with that look. "I'm gonna change." He turned around and locked himself in the cabin, his heart pounding.
"I appreciate you saying yes to be my groomsman, I really do." Jack told him from the other side. "But I don't want things to get— weird between us, because I'm getting married."
"Nothing's gonna change." Mac looked up and took a deep breath. He had to believe his own words.
"Ok." Jack said, and there was a smile in his voice. "Thank you."
It took Mac all his strength not to punch the mirror.
