Water swished around him, murky and disgusting.
The boy seemed to be floating and he shivered in the surprisingly cold water. He looked down. There seemed to be no bottom, only darkness.
A lone leather boot drifted past his face and he pushed it away in disgust. Where was he? He had a vague memory of swimming in something just as bad a long time ago; he couldn’t quite remember it.
Something caught his eye in the distance; a flash of gold and a billowing cloth. A person.
He tried to swim closer but he felt heavy as if he were being dragged into the water. He waved his limbs around with no luck, slowly feeling more suffocated as the dark green water billowed around him.
He blinked and he was suddenly right next to them. A young woman, with a golden cloak wrapped around her shoulders carefully shielding her from the dense pollution. Unable to see her face, he moved closer. Whoosh! A decaying hand shot out and wrapped around his throat.
Within seconds he could no longer breathe. Bubbles escaped from his mouth as he choked. He thrashed around, grasping and scratching at her hand. It was no use.
Her eyes were fogged over and she looked at him blankly. Her skin seemed to melt off her face and arms, break apart in the water and with the little that was left of her lips she spoke.
