Work Text:
It had been yet another rough mission and Kento Nanami was exhausted. He sighs as he sits down on the bed in his hotel room, this mission had not only taken him hours away from you but also kept him for longer than he thought it would. The 7:3 sorcerer missed you, even just the thought of you left an ache in his chest. Kento pulls out his wallet and opens it to fish around for the photo of you that he keeps in there. He feels a smile creep up onto his freckled face when he’s greeted with your smile. He remembers the day it was taken as if it was yesterday, it had not only been the first time you both tried to bake something together but also the first time you had been over to his apartment.
He had preferred to have meetups either out and about or at your apartment due to yours being more comfortable and inviting than his own. However you had insisted that you wanted to spend some time at his place rather than just your own, he of course obliged especially when you looked at him with those pleading eyes of yours. His apartment was different from what you’d expected, the decor was minimal but cozy. The two of you had sat on the couch and talked for a bit before you had brought up the idea of baking cookies, at first he declined as the man wasn't much of a sweets person himself but he knew you were and was always willing to oblige you. He let out a sigh of relief upon finding that he somehow had all of the ingredients for the cookies, he wasn’t really keen on the possibility of having to go out and get everything needed. It started off great at first, until you brought out the flour.
Kento had only had his back turned for one second before he felt a soft thud of something hitting him, the man turned and was met with a shit eating grin. Your hand is still raised in the air and covered in flour. The blond sorcerer huffed a laugh before softly scooping up a small bit of flour himself and aiming right for your chest.
“Kento no please I’m sorry I’ll never do it again.” You manage to speak between giggles, this however did not deter the man. Kento took a step forward, a smile now managing to find its way onto his face as well.
“I’m sorry my love, it’s only fair,” was all the man said before softly launching the flour at you, hitting you directly above your heart.
You gasped as some of the flour had gotten onto your face, Kento began to cackle at the look on your face, while he was distracted you reached behind you and grabbed an even bigger handful of flour and threw it directly at his face. Quite a bit of it ended up in the poor man’s mouth causing him to sputter and try to get the flour out of his mouth, which in turn caused you to laugh even harder. You felt tears begin to well up in your eyes as you continue to laugh at your lover’s expense. While you were too focused on laughing you failed to realize that Kento had grabbed another handful of flour and was making his way over to you.
You only stopped laughing when you felt something land on the top of your head, you slowly raised it to see Kento standing there with a smug look on his face. The man looked all too proud of himself, his arms crossed over his chest in triumph.
“You just started a war, mister.” you grumbled before grabbing another handful of flour and tossing it at the man.
Kento tried to dodge it but still managed to catch a bit of it on his shoulder. The man jokingly grumbled before grabbing another handful himself and walking over to you with a smile on his face. Once he made it over to you he let the flour drop from his hand onto the floor before he reached to cradle your face in his hands. He looks into your eyes and it's like the whole world stops. You never fail to get lost in his hazel eyes, there's just something about them that always grabs your attention.
Maybe it's the way they soften ever so slightly when he looks at you, or maybe it's how the sides of them crinkle up when he laughs. Kento Nanami may seem like such a complex stoic man to others, but to you he’s the most funny, caring, determined man that you know. He’d give up the clothes on his back for the ones he loves without a second thought. You had heard from him about how much he has grown to care about the boy Yuji Itadori and how he’s always trying to keep him out of trouble. You’re drawn back to reality by the feeling of his thumb caressing your cheek.
“There you are beautiful, what were you so deep in thought about ?” Kento asks, his soft voice soothing your ears. You turned your face and pressed it further into his calloused hand.
“Just about how much I love you,” Your reply slightly muffled by his hand.
You hear Kento sigh softly and feel him pull you towards his chest, his arms circling around your back. Kento pressed a soft kiss to your head keeping his lips pressed against you after. You’re not sure how long the two of you stayed like that but after a while you slowly pull away and fully take in how the two of you look.
“Ken, we're both completely covered in flour. We should clean up then finish making the cookies.” You groan.
Kento laughs a bit then replies, “Hold on just one moment and look at me really quick.”
You look at him confused before you see that he pulled his polaroid camera out and is pointing it at you. A smile creeps onto your face matching his own behind the camera. There is a quick flash and then it fades. Kento removes the polaroid from the camera and shakes it until the photo shows. There you were covered head to toe in flour with a bright smile on your face.
“This one is going in my wallet.” Kento says with a small grin on his face. You smile back at him feeling your heart well up from the sheer amount of love you have for the man in front of you.
That photo remained tucked into his wallet and was frequently pulled out by the man when he was missing you whether that be while at work or away on a trip. Kento made sure to keep the photo in the most pristine condition. The photo was only swapped out years later and replaced by a photo of the two of you at your wedding.
