Hoshi watched as Aika snuck out of her bedroom window. Hoshi knew they should stop her, but Hoshi was aware where Aika was heading. It wasn’t a secret that Aika wanted to spend time with her partner Zira, so who was Hoshi to deny this young love?
“Eh, if something happens tonight I’ll just fly over to her.” Hoshi pointed out. As Hoshi flew around the house, they grew bored. “Hm, what to do.” Hoshi mumbled. As Hoshi flew into the living room, their eyes set on the new TV Aika was able to buy at a garage sale. Well, not really. Hoshi winced, remembering how she actually got the TV. Aika had taken it thinking it was for free. Surprisingly no one even noticed. ‘How did she even get it to the house anyway? We live like thirty minutes away from that place.’ Hoshi thought.
Hoshi sighed, perhaps not thinking about what happened might be better. As Hoshi grabbed the remote that was on the couch, they quickly turned on the television. A news channel popped up right away, which sort of captured Hoshi’s interest. ‘Hm. Well I already know earth is going to explode one day, so why listen to humans bickering?’ Hoshi questioned. Hoshi immediately switched the channel.
As Hoshi kept flipping through channels, Hoshi eventually found one. It was a documentary about events and cultures around the world. ‘Interesting. I guess this could do.’ Hoshi thought.
The documentary flipped around countries, but specifically stayed in the 1900s. “What a let down.” Hoshi complained. “There is so much to be said about the years prior!” Hoshi announced. “Like what about the 1800’s?” Hoshi questioned. “1845’s Star Guardian would’ve been livid if she saw this.” Hoshi muttered.
Even with all of Hoshi’s complaints, Hoshi didn’t change the channel. Hoshi enjoyed history, so best believe Hoshi was going to stay put to watch the documentary. Even if all parts of history weren’t being talked about. At least Hoshi could recently recall all of what was being talked about.
“How weird for a documentary to only be talking about a specific time period for world history events.” Hoshi muttered, which was somewhat of them complaining again. “I mean at least name your documentary something else and not-“
“And now let us move on to the team’s favorite period of time. The Edo period!” The announcer spoke. “The Edo period is a time to remember that’s for sure.” The announcer said. “With the restrictions on trading, the samurai class, and so much more, how could it not be mentioned?” The announcer explained.
“However, let’s specifically start talking about the-“
Hoshi immediately turned off the TV. Hoshi could only stare back at their reflection in the TV’s screen. The silence felt as if it was growing louder.
Hoshi felt frozen. Hoshi couldn’t blink or even focus on their reflection anymore. All that could happen was Hoshi remembering what happened during that period of time.
It was a wonderful time, for a while. Hoshi ate what the village called the best food with. Her. Hoshi would take the time to listen to the music the village would play with. Her. Hoshi would try to train. Her.
Every day she grew. Whether that was in height or strength, the girl Hoshi knew grew. Every training session that happened, Hoshi kept running out of obstacles to give. Every second of the day, she would laugh and try to get Hoshi to loosen up.
Then that all changed. Everything changed so fast. As if it slipped like water out of Hoshi’s grip. “That night. The night the stars and moon came together to..” Hoshi mumbled. “Everything that she saw.. why couldn’t I have been the one to go through that?” Hoshi questioned. “If it was me, then maybe things would’ve been better for her ”.
“We thought similarly, like she was half of me.” Hoshi spoke.
“ She was the reason I..”
In seconds Hoshi could see earth. Hoshi was now in space, the only area that was away. Away from all the negative thoughts that radiated in Hoshi’s mind. Away from sorrow. Away from death.
Death. Something Hoshi was familiar with at the time she was alive. Yet even then, Hoshi couldn’t understand the power of grief. Until it hit Hoshi directly. The screams of terror, the blood, the change. Hoshi saw it all go down that night, a night that was supposed to be heroic. A night that was supposed to be the end of all battles.
The change was the hardest. She didn’t even want to get up anymore. She did not want to watch the sun fall and the moon set. Yet she continued her duties, even if it was all because her lover told her too. Well, her past lover. Her death was the hardest for her.
Then once she left this Earth, Hoshi couldn’t look at the planet the same again. The planet itself had burned the person Hoshi cared for so much, and got her lover killed. How could Hoshi forget that and choose to be a fan of Earth?
“Earth is so beautiful, yet so repulsive.” Hoshi muttered. Even though Hoshi believed that, their eyes did not dart away from the planet for a second.
“But.. there’s someone down there that I care for.” Hoshi whispered, as if someone was near. “She makes my belief fade away so that I can try to understand her.” Hoshi explained themselves, as if they were in trial. “She’s like you, strong willed and truly kind.” Hoshi whispered again.
“I will not let her lose herself like you did.” Hoshi promised.
As Hoshi dared to look up, they saw it. Her . Akemi in the stars dancing to her heart’s content. Then another girl appeared, the one that loved Akemi. The one that sacrificed herself for the galaxy, but changed Akemi much more than Lady DeVoid did.
And for a moment, Hoshi forgot about all that had happened before. Instead, they remembered the wonderful moments the three had shared together, a moment before Hoshi wasn’t a fan of Earth.
As the stars slowly moved away, Hoshi looked back at the planet. Still with the same belief, but twisted. As Hoshi slowly flew towards the planet, Hoshi promised to not let Aika have the same fate as the one that banished Lady DeVoid long ago. The one they called Akemi, her.
