As Tenya sat in the kitchen, he couldn’t help but think about how much he loved his little family. He looked over at Shouto who had insisted on cooking dinner tonight, even though he had no cooking skills whatsoever, and then over to Izuku who was feeding Chihiro a bottle this even though he was really low on energy right now. Tenya had offered to feed him for him, but Izuku insisted that feeding time saying it was a bonding experience and he didn’t want to just pass that up.
Which meant Tenya was just sitting here, left to his thoughts. Usually, that was a bad thing, Tenya hated being left alone with his thoughts, and getting stuck in his head. But right now all he could think about is how he wanted to do this forever. He wanted to work side by side with Shouto and then come home to Izuku and Chihiro every day for the rest of his life.
This wasn’t a new realization by any means. He had discovered that a while ago. It really hit him when Izuku told them that he was pregnant. That is when Tenya realized he needed his little family by his side forever. A few days after that he went over to Tensei and Fuyumi’s house and had a long talk with his brother about these feelings. And Tensei and he decided it was time for him to propose.
A couple of months later he took Fuyumi with him to buy some rings. He then came up with a plan of how he was going to propose. He even reserved a table at a fancy restaurant where he was going to propose.. But the day before the reservation Chihiro decided he was going to pop into the world, and unfortunately, they hadn’t had a lot of free time to have a date night in the four weeks since. As much as he loved having Chihiro around, him coming a few weeks earlier than expected really messed with his plans.
So here he was, most definitely certain that he wanted people to the two people he loved, but with no plan on how to make that happen.
“Shou..”, Izuku said hesitantly, bringing Tenya out of his thoughts, “That kind of smells like it’s burning”.
Shouto made a slightly panicked noise, “I-I got it under control..”.
Tenya looked up at him, “Do you need help? I have made that recipe many times I-”.
“No, I got it..”, Shouto said, “I want to be able to treat you guys tonight”.
Tenya looked at him sceptically, “Alright I suppose”.
He turned his attention back over to Izuku and Chihiro. Chihiro had just finished his bottle and Izuku was now burping him. Tenya loved their sweet little domestic life. It was perfect. It was definitely not what he thought his life would end up like. He assumed he would end up with a girl that his dad chose for him, in a completely miserable and unhappy, but a ‘normal’ life.
But after meeting Shouto and then Izuku, he quickly learned that normal was not at all what he wanted. He had been taught for so long that it was wrong for him to not follow the stupid rules society had set. And even though rules still definitely mattered to him, he learned that some of society’s rules were complete bullshit and were meant to be broken.
A sudden loud beep pulled him out of his thoughts in a much more terrifying way. He was confused for a second until he saw the smoke coming from the stove and Shouto stumbling back away from it before falling to the ground covering his ears. Tenya got up quickly and went over to the stove as Chihiro started crying loudly.
The pan on the stove was in flames. He quickly grabbed the pan and then turned on the sink putting the pan under the water to stop the fire. He was thankful that working on his instincts was correct and that this wasn’t a grease fire. He let out a sigh once the fire was put out, the smoke alarm turning off at the same time. He then turned back around to his family. Izuku was soothing Chihiro but looking concerned at Shouto, who was looking absolutely terrified up at the stove while covering his ears. And that is when Tenya saw the burn on Shouto’s hand.
“Shou..”, Tenya said as he walked up to him. Shouto looked up at him but still seemed terrified as he shook in fear, “Honey, do you know where you are?”.
Shouto looked up at him and nodded a little but still looked terrified, “Y-yeah.. I’m home.. But.. I- its.. Foggy and I’m scared”.
Tenya knelt down in front of him, “I think you’re dissociating a little bit.. Can I help take care of your burns?”.
Shouto nodded and Tenya went to head out of the room to grab their first aid kit out of the hall closet.
Once he grabbed it he went back to the kitchen, Shouto was sitting down in a chair next to Izuku. Thankfully Chihiro seemed to have calmed down a little bit as he now seemed relaxed in Izuku’s arms.
Tenya treated Shouto’s burns, and as he did Shouto seemed to come back to reality a bit more.
“Do you all want to order take out or something since dinner…. Didn’t exactly work out”, Izuku asked.
Shouto sighed as he looked down at the table angrily, “Yeah…”.
“That’s fine with me”, Tenya said as he stood back up.
“I can go order it on my laptop if you want to take Chi”, Izuku said.
Tenya walked over to him, gently taking Chihiro before going to sit next to Shouto. Once he was seated Chihiro reached up toward him, with a big smile on his face. Chihiro had just gotten to the point where he could recognize people’s faces and it always made Tenya so happy when he got excited to see him.
He just loved his little family and his life so much, and he couldn’t help but say, “I want to marry you two..”.
As soon as realized what he said he looked up with wide eyes. Shouto was looking at him shocked, and Izuku had stopped in his tracks staring at him.
“A-are you serious?”, Izuku asked.
Tenya looked away a little ashamed, “Well.. umm.. Of course. I love our family more than anything and I can’t imagine my life without you.. So yes, yes I want to marry you both”.
“Why, Tenya Iida, is this a proposal?”, Izuku said with a joking tone.
“Umm.. yes actually”, Tenya said, “I know it isn’t the whole tradition of getting down on one knee thing and saying a big moving speech, but.. Will you two do me the honor of being my spouses?”.
When he looked back up Izuku was crying and Shouto looked absolutely shocked.
Izuku ran over to Tenya, hugging him carefully making sure to not hurt Chi, “Yes, of course, I will marry you”, he said before grabbing either side of Tenya’s face and kissing him. Tenya smiled, and they looked over at Shouto, who was looking down at the table anxiously.
“..... This is sudden.. And seems unplanned…. A-are you sure you want to marry…. ME..?”, Shouto said with a sigh, “As tonight has proven.. I’m kind of a mess”.
“Shouto of course I want to marry you”, Tenya said.
“And honestly aren’t all three of us kind of messes, isn’t that what makes us work so well?”, Izuku said with a small laugh.
“Plus, you should know me better than that..”, Tenya said with a small, soft, laugh, “I have been planning a proposal for months.. I have rings in my desk drawer and everything”.
Shouto seemed anxious but suddenly a tear fell down his face, “Then yes.. I want to marry you two”.
Tenya stood up and walked over to Shouto, “Can you take him?”, he asked.
Shouto nodded and took Chihiro and Tenya quickly went back to the office, grabbing the rings out of his drawer. He looked at them, they were perfect. Once he got in there, he put the green ring on Izuku’s finger and kissed him and then did the same to Shouto.
It definitely wasn’t how he planned on this night going, but then again it seems there are sometimes more important things than everything going according to plan.
