Work Text:

It wasn’t fair and it was all Yoko’s fault.

Most of Wednesday’s problems recently, or “jealously issues” as the vampire would claim, were because of her. She was in the way more often than not and taking Enid away as if she didn’t have her own girlfriend to annnoy enough. It was aggravating beyond belief, and now it’d been hours since Enid left— 7 hours and 43 minutes to be exact— to Yoko’s dorm.

Enid had prepared Wednesday for the horrible news of a sleepover with her annoying friend in advance, but Wednesday still wasn’t prepared for it. Mainly, she just didn’t want Enid to leave, especially to Yoko’s dorm of all places, but ultimately it wasn’t her decision to make.

For an overnight stay it was feeling like centuries to the Raven. She was going mad, almost. It was past 3am and her eyes burned from exhaustion, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep. So she tried the next best thing; writing.

She even sat at her desk in her comfortable chair, her posture still straight, as she stared at her typewriter and its nice, crisp page and black ink waiting to be used.

Yet her fingers rested on the keys, applying not even an ounce of pressure. She couldn’t write. She couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t think about Viper or adventures or murders when she was too caught up with Enid not being here with her like she should be. Even if Enid was busy doing homework or complaining or embracing her for hours, she just wanted her in one of their beds instead of Yoko’s.

You should get some sleep. Thing tapped from the opposite side of the desk. Unknowingly to Wednesday, Enid asked to keep an eye on her girlfriend the best he could as a hand. But, Thing could tell Wednesday wasn’t in a good mood. His words didn’t help.

”I am not going to to, Thing. I’m occupied,“ Wednesday lied with a frown, propping her head up as she cradled her face and looked between Thing and the paper for a moment. She wasn’t getting anywhere, and she hadn’t been for the past half hour. She seemed to only be in a writing mood when the wolf was around.

He managed to hide his attitude to not worsen her state. If you sleep it won’t feel so long until Enid comes back.

Wednesday sighed through her nose and narrowed her eyes. She didn’t want to think about Enid because then she’d think about how she was gone and how should be here instead. Although the seer was aggravated with Yoko for taking her away, the other part of her was uncomfortable with Enid being away overnight. It’d been like that since Crackstone, and after they came back to school it’d only worsened.

”I do not miss Enid,” Wednesday muttered. Another lie. Another clear lie that Thing could tell wasn’t true. He knew Wednesday enough to be upset, and he’d witnessed similar situations of distress when the wolf was gone. It was incredibly obvious she missed her girlfriend.

She didn’t even threaten him, too, he noticed. It was a given sign something was wrong, and it was nothing short of worrisome.

I never said you did, he tapped, making Wednesday look away from him and down at the table, only glancing up as he snapped at her. But it’s okay to want her here.

Wednesday sat up straight at his statement before standing up from her seat entirely. She looked down at him as she pushed her chair in, her voice no more than an uncharacteristic mumble. Another lie escaped her mouth that tasted like an awful poison.

“I do not care if Enid is here or not. She is her own person and it does not matter to me where she goes,” she paused as Thing did his own version of a judgmental stare, rightfully doubtful. “I am merely tired, that’s it, Thing. It is too cold to rest.”

If Enid were here she wouldn’t be cold. If Enid were here they’d all be asleep by now. If Enid were here—

Thing tapped loudly to grab her attention again and remove her from her own thoughts. Put on one of Enid’s hoodies if you’re cold.

What?

Her eyebrows were immediately brought together at the suggestion. Her, wearing one of Enid’s headache inducing sweatshirts? Utterly ridiculous to say the least. None of them were Wednesday’s color or fashion, too bright with colors that looked like rainbow-vomit.

Thing scampered off the desk and onto the floor, past Wednesday and over to Enid’s side of the room. After a moment Wednesday turned to watch him, and sure enough he was already climbing up boxes in the closet to reach the huge assortment of hoodies her colorful roommate collected, practically doubling since last year.

He began to sift through them, and Wednesday moved swiftly over there to stand in front of the closet, watching the hand carefully choose a hoodie. Wednesday wanted to say it was an invasion of privacy to be going through Enid’s things, or wrong to be stealing her clothes, but she remained silent. Wednesday was past the point of caring by now, and even if she did, saying anything like that would be hypocritical, and they both knew Enid wouldn’t care anyway.

Eventually his fingers tugged the sleeve of a darker blue hoodie, nowhere close to being black or a deep, dark night blue, but it was better than bubblegum pink. Her eyes fixated on the chosen hoodie as her hands moved to nervously fidget with the hem of her shirt.

She never did this before, wearing Enid’s clothes. Not in the years they’d known each other had she, and neither had Enid. Secretly, she had thought about it once or twice when she ached for Enid on the rare occasion she had to go elsewhere for an extended period of time, but she contained herself and dealt with it— but now the ache was overwhelming.

Before she knew it she already removed the clothing off its hanger and into her hands, rubbing her fingers up and down the soft material that was tempting her to just put it on already. And after a moment, she finally pulled it over her head and put it on, adjusting until it was perfect.

And besides the color, it was perfect.

It wasn’t handmade or anything special, not something an Addams would typically wear, but it was soft everywhere. Although it had a ridiculous cat on the front of it, there was no patch scratching at her through the inside. The hood wasn’t bulky and the strings weren’t too long. The best part, though, was the smell. Enid’s perfume and laundry soap lingered in it, immediately soothing Wednesday.

She couldn’t help but bring it up closer to her nose for a second, closing her eyes, taking in and appreciating it completely as she inhaled the scent she said she despised but inwardly enjoyed, knowing it smelled like her roommate.

Suddenly, wearing Enid’s clothes didn’t seem like a bad idea. Suddenly, she began to wonder why she hadn’t done it sooner.

Wednesday was more than content with being surrounded by warmth and the smell of her girlfriend, and finally, after hours of waiting and overthinking and pouting, she felt like she could properly rest. And as Thing hopped down and crawled over to his personal desk drawer, Wednesday walked back to her made bed, climbing under the covers tiredly.

As she crossed her arms over her chest as she always did, her mind wandered back to Enid, but at least sleeping would make it feel like she’d be back sooner.

….Thing was right.

—————

Enid returned to their shared room at 8am, eyes bloodshot and eye bags purple from pulling an all nighter with her friend. She only decided to leave once Yoko fell asleep watching a series of vampire movies, only getting to the third one because she felt the need to make comments that always got them both sidetracked for way too long.

The second she quietly opened the door, her mouth dropped before turning into a grin that was almost painful. “OMG!” She squealed to herself, feeling the happiest she’d been in her whole life. She squeezed onto the folded blanket between her arms as to not drop it, and excitedly reached for her phone until she nearly fumbled it and dropped it onto the wooden floor ten times.

Her phone must’ve had two new dozen pictures of Wednesday within the span of 30 seconds, and she had to stop herself from taking any more to enjoy the sight now before Wednesday had an allergic reaction to the color and needed to remove it once her eyes opened and saw “the hideous sight”.

Thing emerged from his drawer with a stretch at the sound of Enid’s arrival, beginning to crack each of his digits until she pressed a finger to her lips at him to shush him.

”Shhh,” she whispered as gently as she could, albeit not that gently with her voice high pitched from pure excitement running through her veins. “Don’t wake her up yet.”

Enid shut the door behind her just as quietly as she opened it, and waited a minute with a smile threatening to permanently stay on her face from how happy she was. Right then, she was convinced that she could look at her cute, peaceful, comfortable and loving girlfriend secretly wearing a cat sweater that, if she were awake, she would criticize.

Obviously though, Wednesday had to wake up eventually, and she began to stir in her sleep, tugging on the blanket until Enid took her chance to go over there. Her all nighter doubled with a sugar crash she was dealing with was making her tired enough to fall asleep on the floor, yet she carefully walked over until she hovered over her girlfriend.

”Hey, baby, I’m back,” she whispered with a kiss to her forehead. Wednesday stopped moving once she heard her voice, and Enid tucked her in more before leaning down more to kiss her freckled cheek. She watched as Wednesday melted underneath her kisses, and it was addicting and intoxicating to watch every time.

”Good morning,” Wednesday mumbled, her eyes still heavy from her late-night overthinking session with Thing. Despite the heaviness, she opened them and admired Enid with her ruffled hair and caring smile paired with eyes and dilated pupils looking down upon her. Wednesday wasn’t entirely awake, but she wanted to grab fistfuls of Enid’s baggy t-shirt to pull Enid on top of her and have the blonde cuddle her back to sleep. Her hands fell to her sides though, rather than grabbing onto Enid like she desperately wanted to in her groggy state.

She felt a soft hand move her definitely-mused bangs to the side as she felt a pair of lips press against her other temple. God, she just wanted to have Enid kiss all over her face, to hold her, comfort her after that long night of being away. All she wanted was Enid.

The Raven needed the wolf and her touch, her smell, her kisses, her presence.

Wednesday wanted nothing more than Enid.

”I like your hoodie,” Enid’s whisper broke the silence again. Wednesday hummed in response, not understanding what she meant for a second until her eyes shot fully open and she sluggishly moved her hands across her torso to feel the soft fabric she trapped herself in. Her face flushed with a light shade of pink, embarrassed to be caught.

”I…” she tried defending, a lump in her throat. She looked at Thing for help, who merely stood at his spot, remaining at the desk as he observed his roommates. “It… and we, um…”

After a moment of stuttering she pursed her lips and gave up, clearly wearing Enid’s eyesore of an outfit that would make the raven break out into hives, and she couldn’t lie about that. Thankfully, Enid broke the silence for her and continued. “Did Thing miss me?”

”A lot.”

Wednesday said it without skipping a beat, and it only made Enid grin yet again, confidence getting to her. She knew what her girlfriend meant. “I can tell.”

”I apologize,” Wednesday replied, sitting up more as Enid moved off to the side to give her space. She started to take off the hoodie, only for Enid to stop her. A frown was on the blonde’s face, making the seer stop in her tracks the moment she noticed.

”Don’t, Wens,” she said softly, her hand now against the middle of the hoodie, across Wednesday’s torso too hardly push it down to keep it from going anywhere, making her blush yet again. She went on in the same tone, driving her roommate crazy as she admitted the truth. “You look so cute in it. Keep it on, you can have it.”

Wednesday didn’t have time to react before Enid was climbing past her like she internally wanted since she heard Enid enter their dorm, and laid her blanket down over the covers. Her arms found their way across Wednesday the moment she laid on her side, who laid back down at the contact. Enid smirked at the instant reaction, and made sure to reward her friend with a real kiss she managed to not smile through.

”I think you should try on my other hoodies too, yeah?” She whispered against perfect lips quietly, smirking now.

Notes:

I know I’m writing a multi chapter fic right now, but I felt like writing a one shot. I‘ve been wanting to for around a month, I just haven’t had any ideas because of writer’s block. Soooo if anyone has suggestions that’d be nice, because now that it’s summer I have more time to write.

Although I wrote this in one sitting on an hour of sleep and not the slightest bit of cognitive thought, I hope you guys enjoyed
