   Summary

   And then Maomao appeared. And peeled back his layers piece by piece, solely with her gaze.
   Laid him bare in a way nobody else ever dared to.

   Did she even know what she did to him? He hoped she didn’t. Yet, he hoped she did.
   But what he knew now, with iron certainty, was that he could not let her go. He couldn’t.

   Jinshi didn’t know how to love.

   He had never gotten there. To keep the small number of people dearest to him near, he had had to fit himself into the mold they had held over his head. So he did. Was that for family or duty? He didn’t know.

   But her… nobody had tried to take her away yet. Until today. And not the usual Gaoshun or Suiren either, but death itself had tried to claim her, heartbeats away from him.

   Jinshi wanted to learn how to love without fear. Fear of loss. Fear of rejection. Fear of heartbreak, for both of them. Was such a love even possible? Did Maomao know? Would she share it with him?

   Because amongst the blurry storm in his heart, one reality stood out crystal clear now, unable to be ignored any longer. Unwilling to be denied anymore.
