Chapter Text
It’s been a few years since they first became human and left the house to find purpose. They created a group chat to always have contact with each other as they bonded over a shared background of being formerly non-human. All of them have accepted and settled into their new lives… well, except one.
Daemon is walking through the streets using his new found body, he doesn’t feel quite human but he was able to get his glitching under enough control to not scare anyone that sees him. Some just think he looks strange, while others ignore his presence. He suddenly spots a crack that seems to be floating in the middle of the road, defying gravity. He doesn’t think much of it at first, as being a glitch, he has seen a lot of interesting things. But after looking at the tear for a few seconds, it seems to expand slightly. The glitch became a bit alarmed as he approached it for a better look. After a few moments of contemplation, he reaches a hand out to touch it.
When Daemon’s hand came into contact with it, the crack suddenly expanded rapidly. He jumped back as it grew ever larger. He whipped out his phone quickly texting the other former objects and concepts about the situation.
Suddenly, he felt himself falling, and falling… and falling. The world faded into nothingness.
Then, reality shattered.
After a few moments of free falling, he finally hit the ground. Surprisingly, he was not alone.
“What… happened?” a voice somewhere nearby asked, slightly disoriented. Daemon looked to the side and saw Maggie, slowly sitting up while holding her head. Her appearance flickered between her original magnifying glass form and her realization form.
A chorus of voices responded all at once.
“Wait, wait let's figure this out piece by piece. How many people are here?” Maggie stood up and counted everyone that she could see, pointing at each person present.
“It seems like everyone that was once non-human is here. Strange, there must be a reason for all this” Maggie put her hand on her chin in a thinking gesture. She looked around at the white empty void that they ended up in and the non-existent floor that they all seem to stand on.
Many people started chattering, some trying to analyze the situation, while others caught up with their friends that they haven’t seen for a time, before a voice spoke up.
“I believe I may have an explanation of what happened.” Everyone turned to look at Skylar, who just spoke.
“It seems the realization feature of the dateviators had more effects than I thought. I think… it made us spirit-like? Or even god-like beings. Our reality probably shattered as it couldn’t hold all of us anymore” after this huge revelation. Many contemplated what this would mean moving forward, some didn’t think much of it, some panicked about losing their jobs, while others took pride in it.
“Then why are our forms flickering?” Maggie asks.
“Our original forms are still our true spiritual form, but our human forms are our physical forms. It seems like we now have free access to both” Skylar explains. She seems to concentrate for a moment before her form solidifies into her original form. Maggie is shocked before she tries the same, setting back into her magnifying glass detective outfit.
“Interesting… If what you say is true, then what else are we capable of?”
Overtime people started testing around, figuring out their new found powers. When Wallace somehow made a wall grow out of the ground, Tony gets the idea to build a new home in this void as it doesn’t seem like they are getting back anytime soon. Many others agreed to his idea and they started construction soon after.
After a few days, a very large mansion was built to accommodate everyone. Each person had their own room where they would decorate it to their liking. After a while, many people settled in and felt decently comfortable despite the sudden change in reality.
Many also warmed up to Daemon after actually getting to know him, unlike when everyone avoided him when he was a replacement for the dresser and his glitching was still out of control. He enjoyed talking with the others but he still felt out of place as he heard about the many newfound abilities the others possessed. He was hesitant to explore his new powers as his nature was always different from the others. But after a bit of encouragement from Amir and Barry, he decided to try.
Daemon left the house for more space, took a deep breath, shifted into his original form and… wait, what was he supposed to do? How would he know how to activate his powers? As soon as he thought about that, he instinctively drew a line downward in the air. The line burst open, ripping the space and creating a rift that is as tall as him. Looking into it, Daemon only saw swirls of color. His mind told him that this rift led to another universe. He then closed it with a swipe of his hand and ran back to the house to tell the others.
The more eager and adventurous types were first to see what was beyond this dimension, going exploring through the portals and sharing what they found on the other side. Eventually, everyone started spending more time outside the pocket dimension that they now call their home. However, they always come back sooner or later to share with the others about their travels or to take a break from the chaos. Many people even found humans (Or non-humans) that they got attached to.
All of them agreed on a rule to not interfere with the world's natural courses too much and to not reveal their existences to the entire universe they interfere with. They didn’t want people to rely on them for everything but they are welcome to interact with those that have the ability to see them in their spiritual forms. If possible they will only interfere slightly while in their spiritual forms, making them invisible to most with their actions being subtle enough to pass as nature or luck.
Daemon, the newly named portal keeper, finally found his purpose as the others relied on his help to get between dimensions. He also makes sure the others don’t get injured and stuck on their adventures since he found out that he can hear someone’s voice across dimensions if they call his name. His revelation made it so that he can close the portal without stranding someone or risk an outsider finding it. (Dorian was very insistent that no one intrudes upon this dimension so Daemon was extra careful about it.)
Between managing the portals and chatting with the others, Daemon found himself quite content with this life, surprising even himself. He never imagined this as a possibility and being accepted among the others was a bonus that he never could have dreamed of before. Settling into his new life and purpose, he wonders what the others will get up to next.
