Chapter Text
Lilith touched the bark of the tree. It didn’t feel like the dirt under her feet, or the air when it picked up speed. It was a new sensation. Lilith’s eyes lit up. She looked up, following the bark with her eyes to see the tree expand into green ends. All the trees had green ends. Its almost all she could see, the trees overlapped so much above her. A piece of bark falls off into her hand.
Small…somethings scatter across her hand. She brings her hand to her face. “What is this?” She looks to the taller angel. She lifts her head a little to really look at her. The angels skin just a little lighter than her own. Lilith’s hair noticeably longer, but a different color. She something glowed around her head. The other angel had the same thing, but two of them. Sera was this angels name. “They were on the bark of this tree.” The ants found Lilith’s forearm crawling upward slowly but surely.
“Those are ants. They spend lots of time on the trees. They might be mistaking you for one. I think you should put them back. There remarkably busy insects after all.” Sera took gentle hold of her arm. It felt like something she couldn’t describe yet. She decided she will at some point.
Lilith brushed the ants off her arm. And one off her neck. The feeling of them on her felt like the green on the trees when she walked pass them; but different somehow, it made her shiver just a little bit. She looked ahead, seeing what Sera called fog, it looked like clouds and hung in the air like fruit
. Was it attached to anything? It made the sunlight look so pretty. Everything in the garden looked so pretty.
Lilith continued walking. Admiring all the different colored flowers. She picked one up, it was small with six white leafs at the top and a yellow center. She picked a few more before walking ahead once more.
Lilith was enamored with everything around her. Somehow every new thing she sees is more beautiful and vibrant than the last. Every tree is bigger and taller than the previous, every animal is fluffier and cuter than the last, And all of it it hers. She doesn’t know why she knows that. The elder angels didn’t tell her; Adam didn’t tell her. She just looks and knows God made it all for her. She feels…glad that God would do this for her.
“How many things are in this garden for us” she asks sera, Lilith’s eyes affixed to the circles under her eyes.
“As much as your willing to find. Theres no end to what we have created for the two of you. All you must do is look.” Sera gestures above Lilith, she follows her hand to see a bird soaring through the air, its so many different colors she can't focus on just one. She attempts to follow it, but it disappears into the trees. Is there a way for her to get up there?
“How do I go there?” Lilith points above her. If she jumps really high…, could she make it? How would she stay up there?
“That is a question for another day my curious child. How about we catch up with your other half? He is far ahead of you by now.” She guides Lilith ahead, keeping distractions to a minimum.
“Lilith!! Where did you go? I turned around and you disappeared!” He dashes toward her and grabs her arms, it's a warm embrace, she almost doesn’t hear what he says as she gets lost in his beautiful sunlight eyes.
“I stopped walking to find a bird that was chirping, it sounded beautiful, where did you go?” she wraps her arms around his neck as she asked him. He shifted his arms to her back, not without playing with her hair a little.
“Saw a HUGE animal ahead of us, it was orange, and black, and had yellow eyes just like me!! I thought you went with me to see it; I was talking to Lucifer for the whole time thinking I was talking to you.” It didn’t take long for half of Adam’s attention to be given to Lilith’s huge head of curls. Grabbing handfuls and running his hands down the length. Cupping the back of her head.
Lilith melted in his touch. Her head fell under his chin; she pressed herself fully against him and let her arms roam his body. The two had only known each other for a short time and yet they somehow knew exactly what the other wanted. What they responded best to.
After a quick kiss Adam parted from her, “Theres something you have to see!!” Adam runs ahead of her; Lilith runs quickly behind him.
Adam doesn’t stop running when the ground becomes steep. He begins to run faster. He doesn’t notice how hard he hits the ground with each step or that his quickly losing his balance. But he notices when his foot hits a rock he didn’t see from the side and he falls face first into dirt.
Lilith stops in her tracks, having decided to take to walking several seconds ago. The middle of his leg is very red. It wasn’t that color before.
Lucifer appears next to Adam. Who hasn’t moved since he fell.
“That was QUITE the tumble Adam yikes!!” Lucifer gently maneuvers Adam from on top of himself. Its then he lets out a noise shes never heard before. It doesn’t sound very good.
“Oh, it hurts, doesn’t it? Luckily, it’s only a scrape. I can heal that no problem.” Lucifer covers the scrape with his hands. When he removes them, the red is gone.
“There we go. Feel better? Let's walk this time so this doesn’t happen again.” Lucifer stands and helps Adam up.
“If I fall again, you can help right?” Adam turns his head to the side.
“Yes…BUT it would be better for your health if you…walked.” Lucifers smile wavered at the ends.
Adam pauses. Its quiet for only a second until Adam’s confused fave breaks out into a smile. “Nah.” Is all he says before he runs off again.
Lilith also pauses. She thinks. Slowly and cautiously, she descends down the mountain.
“The smart choice.” Lucifer smiles at her.
“Thank you.” She says as she picks up the rock Adam fell onto, as a reminder.
When Lilith is back on flat ground she sees Adam kicking something around.
“Lilith, this is what i wanted wanted to show you!! It’s water!! And this is a lake!! It's coming from a waterfall somewhere; Lucifer said we should find it!!” Adam sits down and takes the water in his hands and drinks it.
Lilith hesitates…is it smart to drink that? When Adam is finished drinking, he looks at the water with a strange expression. Before throwing his head into it all at once. The splash of the water got all over Lilith. And she almost had a fall of her own flinching away from it.
His head is only underwater for a moment before he leaps right back out of it. He coughs and chokes wildly. Lilith moves to help him, but the angels get there first. Sera begins beating Adam’s back. It sounds like it hurts but she trusts Sera.
As sera helps Adam, Lilith decides if theres another way to put her head underwater. Adams mouth was wide open, and he dove in fast. Lilith closes her mouth and slowly lowers her head before Lucifer speaks up.
“Close your nose as-well.” He looks at her briefly before turning his head back to Adam, who has stopped choking by now.
Lilith holds her nose and sinks he head below the water. Shes amazed by what she sees, it looks like a tiny version of the garden, so many new creatures go back and forth in her vision. She almost forgets to hold her breath. She turns her head back and forth seeing as much as she can. Then her body moves on it own. She flies out of the water and catches her breath similar to how Adam did.
“How did you stay under for so long??” Adam’s voice sounds strange.
“I just held my breath. Close your mouth and nose, there are creatures under the water.”
“I just coughed one up.” Adam takes a breath “Tadpoles. They don’t taste good.”
“Well, what do they look like?” Lilith imagines something fluffy.
“I can stick my head back in to show you!” Adam attempts to dive back into the water, only to be held back by sera.
Lucifer speaks up. “Let him do it sera! Come on.” She doesn’t understand lucifers assurance in Adam. She also doesn’t understand Adam’s wanting to come back into the water, he struggles quite a bit in sera’s hold.
“He’s going to choke again.” Lilith agrees.
“No, I wont! I’ll just cough it all up again!!” Lilith chuckles at Adam continuing restraint.
“Adam, all you have to do is hold your breath like Lilith did. He can do that sera, can't you Adam?”
“Yeah, I can do it! Let me go!” sera finally lets him go. Adam dives back into the water again with his nose and mouth closed.
He’s under water for longer than she was. How did he do that? She notices Lucifer and sera start to look confused. Then scared. A little more time passes and sera yanks Adam out off the water.
“Adam breathe.” She says a bit louder than she has said anything else.
Adam breathes hard, he doesn’t choke but he’s bent over himself as the two elders are once again all over him.
Its hours later. The elder angels peeled Adam away from the lake, and every other body of water they came across. They never found that waterfall. They did climbed trees. Lilith fell more times than she wants to think about. She’s learned that snakes are her favorite animal. Adam learned his favorite animal is a bull. Eventually the two humans begin to grow tired, and they retreat back to where they started. A clearing in the middle of the garden. A clear view of the sky as it gets darker. “The sun setting” as sera told.
Adam and Lilith find a spot. Adam lays flat on the ground and Lilith lays right on top of him. He holds her at her stomach, and she places her arms on his.
The sky is the color of shadows now. But theres something in the sky?
“What are the dots on the sky?” Adam gets to the question she can.
“Those are stars Adam. There like the sun. But farther away.”
“Can we see them one day?” Adam sits up in excitement, it doesn’t disturb Lilith as she dose the same.
“How far away?” Lilith ask the two
Lucifer and sera look at each other. “Well. Getting to the stars will definitely be a harder task than anything else you’ve asked us. But we have faith in the two of you.”
“Watch this.” Sera points to the sky.
Adam and Lilith look to the sky in anticipation. For a second nothing happens. Then, new colors appear in the sky. Colors like the birds with pretty feathers, they look like waves as they move across the sky. Eventually the entire sky is colorful and vibrant. the mountains that surround the garden almost completely are lit up as if the sun were still out. The entire world seems to be a whole different color and feeling than before.
Its so amazing Lilith feels a tear fall from her eye. she clings to Adam. Looking to see his face. Its just as starstruck as hers.
And…wow. Adam looks gorgeous under the new light. Pink and blue show on his dark skin in a way that makes her feel so warm and happy in her chest. She can't help but grab his face and press her lips onto his.
Immediately Adam presses back. This time he picks her up, just like he did when she fell from the trees. He spun her around and kissed all over her face.
Briefly Lilith opened her eyes during Adam’s avalanche of kisses and sees yellow dots all around them.
She gasps as little yellow dots that look like stars light up all around them, she grabs Adam’s arm like he always dose and shakes him. “Adam look!!”
He gasps as well “stars!!!” he sets her down gently and immediately tries to catch one in his hands, Lilith as well.
She dose catch a few, she holds them close to her face to really look. “Oh! They aren’t stars, they’re bugs!”
“Insects- but wow… how do they light up?” Adam responds.
“that’s for you to find out Adam.” Sera answers.
A determined look dawns on his face.
Lilith yawns. Not for the first time that night. “How about we find out tomorrow, Adam? Are you tired?” she beckons Adam to lay back down on the ground.
Adam yawns then. Letting the glowing insect go. “Yeah, i’m tired.” He rejoins Lilith on the ground. Just as they were before.
“There is so much for you two to learn, explore, and discover in this garden. We both wish you to wonderful dreams. We will see you in the day ahead.” Sera stands before them. Her voice is so comforting. By the time she finishes talking the two are fast asleep.
