Work Header

safe and happy again (with you)

Summary:

Momo gets kicked from Class 1-A’s girl group, and it hurts even though she saw it coming. She’s used to it, but it doesn’t change the sobs that come when she’s in her room alone. Of course, she can never be alone when she’s sad, as evidenced by the twin knocks that tug her from her silent cries. Her knights in shining armor come again, only this time, they don’t leave.

Notes:

This has been sitting in the drafts for a minute, and you can see that I was going through it with this one…

Work Text:

It’s not the first time Ochako, Mina, Tsu, Tooru, and Kyoka have left her out of plans that they know she’d love to be part of. But it is the first time they pointedly did it in front of everyone and made it clear they didn’t want her to come along.

Hours ago, they discussed going to the mall and getting dinner together before stopping at Kathy’s Bakery as a way to end their weekend.

They talked about it while eating the food that Momo had ordered for them for lunch.

“We can get those dresses for the dance too!” exclaimed Ochako excitedly as she ate some mochi.

“It’s going to be a blast!” exclaimed Mina as she clapped excitedly.

“Oi, what’re you dumbasses talking about so fuckin’ loudly while I’m cooking?” called Katsuki in annoyance as he peeked his head out of the kitchen to glare at their table.

“We’re going to have a girls' day tomorrow, Bakugou, stop getting huffy.” snapped Ochako with an eye roll before she whipped around to talk to the girls more.

“Oi, ponytail, are we still on for tea?” asked Katsuki as he tilted his head and Momo’s eyes locked on his.

She fought back the tears that had been welling up as her “friends” ignored her, but she was struggling. So, she stood, grabbed her bag of food and said, “We’re still on. Not like I was invited to girl’s day anyway.”

Then Momo turned and walked to the hall, smiling as best she could at everyone who was in the room, but once she was in front of the elevator, the tears fell.

She’d tried to say something, and they ignored her.

When Ochako approached them about a girl’s day as Momo took the food out of the bags, she asked those girls specifically and told Mina to ask Kyoka.

They never looked at her, never said her name, never even thanked her for the food.

That was a few hours ago, and none of them had approached her since. They didn’t even message her, just kicked her out of the girls chat they’d created for their hangouts.

It was clear she didn’t fit with them anymore, but now she wondered if she ever did.

Momo’s phone had been buzzing, it hasn’t stopped since she shut her door a few hours ago. But she checked her phone for that chat and stopped looking at it when it wasn’t there. She didn’t feel like dealing with the mess in their class chat or the squad chats that keep pinging her and @‘ing her because of what happened. So, she puts her phone on silent and lets it buzz away as she curls up on her bed under her blanket, her food sitting on her desk because she didn’t feel like even putting it away, let alone eating it.

She doesn’t really know how long she lays there on her bed with tears slipping down her face and onto her pillow, eyes stinging from being clenched shut. All she knows is that someone is knocking at her door, and Momo is half-tempted not to answer it.

But she’s the class Vice President. She has to answer the knocks.

She has to.

So, Momo pulls herself off the bed, wipes at her face harshly to clear the tears and sucks in a few deep breaths before approaching her door. Then, hand gripping the doorknob tightly, she tugs the door open with a soft smile on her face only to freeze.

Shouto and Katsuki.

Both of them.

“Ponytail, Imma need you to stop ignoring your fuckin phone.” says Katsuki with a half smirk, arms wrapped around Shouto’s waist as he leans his chin on his boyfriend’s shoulder.

“And I need you to let us in because you’ve clearly been crying, and we want to make you smile again.” says Shouto softly, tilting his head to the side as he looks at her with hope in his heterochromatic eyes.

Momo looks between the two of them for a moment, then she sighs in defeat and tugs the door open further, “Come on in and make yourselves comfortable, if you want to, but I’m already smiling.”

“That’s not your real, happy, smile though Momo.” replies Shouto as Katsuki pulls away to grab his icy hand and tugs him into the room.

“Yeah, it’s your vice prez smile which doesn’t fuckin’ count, Princess.” adds Katsuki as he looks at her with a daring arched brow before tugging Shouto to sit with him in the middle of her bedroom floor. “So, you’re gonna give us a real smile before we leave, and then you’re gonna come down and eat some actual goddamn food that I’ll make for ya.”

“I’m fine, really, and I don’t really see why you’re both here about me. I’m perfectly fine, and there’s nothing to be concerned about.” says Momo with a sigh as she closes her door and heads for her bed, feeling nervous and flattered that they’re worried about her.

She closes her eyes as those stupid feelings flutter through her, but then she hears a snort.

“You’re fuckin’ lying because you don’t want us to worry about you, but we’re fuckin’ worried so stop it. We know you’re not okay, clearly, and you have every right not to be after those bitches acted like that. So, stop invalidating your own feelings.” huffs Katsuki sounding both amused and pissed off at the same time as he leans back on his hands and squints at her.

“Momo, I know you don’t want anyone to worry about you and that this is really hard to understand. But let us be here for you, please. We want to be here, and we’re not going to let you push us away.” says Shouto softly, understanding in his voice as he tilts his head and looks at her with those soft heterochromatic eyes like she’s important.

“I appreciate the concern, I really do, but this was coming long before today. I just-“ Momo’s trying to reassure them while also getting them to drop this entirely because she honestly doesn’t want to talk about how she was just officially kicked from the class girl’s group.

Shouto and Katsuki get up while she’s talking, but what cuts her off is when they sit on either side of her and take her hands in theirs. When their thumbs rub across her skin, soft and slow as their arms wrap around her waist, Momo breaks.

The tears she thought had dried up start falling again, pouring down her cheeks in rivulet waves that feel like fire burning down her face. Next thing she knows, her face is pressed against two shoulders as hands rub up and down her back, whispers of support and care barely reaching her over the sobs curling from her lips against her will.

“-It’s okay, Darling, just let it all out.”

“-We’ve got you, Princess, always got you. We’re here, let it out.”

Momo doesn’t know how long she cries for, all she knows is that her head is pounding by the time the tears dry and she finds herself laying between two warm bodies.

“Princess, how are you feeling?” asks Katsuki softly, voice rough with sleep as he blinks tiredly at her.

“Uh- How- when… Um… I have a headache, and my eyes are stinging some, but those are normal after crying. I’m so confused. When did we lay down?” asks Momo as she tries to remember when they moved, realizing she opened her eyes when the throbbing made itself known. “Did I cry myself to sleep?”

“You did, Darling, but it’s expected. You were very upset, even with trying to hold it in, and when you let it out, you exhausted yourself. I’m sorry we stayed, but we didn’t want to leave you. I hope it’s okay.” murmurs Shouto gently as he lifts up on his arm and brushes a cool hand across her forehead, easing some of the pain with the touch.

“You’re pretty adorable when you sleep, Princess.” adds Katsuki softly as he looks at her, smiling gently in a way that has flutters erupting in her belly.

Taking in everything these two have done for her tonight, she doesn’t know how she’s supposed to stop falling. They’re too sweet, too gentle, too caring when it comes to her, and the ache returns because she knows that it can never happen.

“I appreciate you two being here, and staying because you were worried, but you should probably go now. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be here so late, not when you need to get your sleep.” mutters Momo as she sits up and makes her way off the bed as carefully as she can from how they were settled on either side of her.

She needs space now that those stupid feelings have hit her again, and as much as she wants to just tell them to stay in here for the night, she knows she can’t. Not just because of the curfew but because it wouldn’t be right.

“You’re getting in your head again,” sighs Shouto with a shake of his head as he stands and steps up to her. “Momo, we want to be here for you. And it’s not just because you’re our friend.”

“Fuck that, Sho, she’s not gonna get it that way,” huffs Katsuki before he stands as well, shuffling Shouto slightly over so they’re both standing in front of her. Then he glares at her with fierce red eyes. “You’re not our friend, Princess, you’re the person that we want to add into our fuckin’ relationship. We like you, genius, and we’re here because we like you so fuckin’ much that it’s getting ridiculous trying to be subtle about it and see if you feel the same. So, don’t get in your goddamn head about us being here, worrying about you like we  are, just fuckin’- Be our girlfriend, or Partner, whatever the fuck.”

Momo giggles, she can’t help it, Katsuki rambled much like Izuku does, and he’s glowering at her with soft red eyes that hold no anger or frustration.

“I guess that’s kind of an answer,” mutters Shouto quietly, his hand finding Katsuki’s and squeezing.

“That wasn’t an answer, that was me thinking a rambling Katsuki is adorable,” replies Momo softly, pointedly as she tilts her head to the side to catch Shouto’s eyes. “Girlfriend, Partner, either is fine with me as long as you both actually want me and know that I want the both of you too.”

She watches with a soft smile as Shouto’s eyes grow wide, as Katsuki’s lips curve into a grin, and she knows that today may have been bad, but tonight has been great.

“You’re ours then, Princess,” says Katsuki firmly, happiness glowing in those red eyes of his, and then Shouto is sitting on the bed as he says, “She’s our darling now, that’s- I’m so happy.”

“Yeah, I’m yours, you’re both mine, these are true statements. I’ll figure out pet names tomorrow, though I have some in mind already, but for now, I’m still tired. So, if you want to stay, you’re more than welcome, but I’m ready to sleep,” replies Momo amusedly before she moves around them to climb back into the middle of her bed and get under the covers, letting her eyes fall closed as the decision settles over them.

Her lips curve into a soft smile when warmth traps her on either side and arms curl around her, and she sighs into their holds as she lets a hand out to lay over their arms, placing her own claim on them as well.

Everything else will come tomorrow, but for now, she’s safe and happy again.
