Work Text:
It had been five days since Soobin nervously asked Yeonjun out on a real date.
Their actual date was scheduled for the weekend, but Yeonjun had absolutely not cooled off since the big moment. In fact, he’d gotten bolder.
Today’s study session was proof.
Yeonjun was sprawled out on Soobin’s bed, one leg kicking lazily in the air, wearing Soobin’s hoodie like it was his personal armor and sipping iced coffee like he wasn’t practically winking every time their eyes met.
He had his sparkly purple notebook open, scribbling something with a glitter pen, humming softly.
Soobin was at his desk, trying to focus on calculus.
Trying.
Failing.
Yeonjun hummed louder.
Then tossed a heart sticker onto Soobin’s notebook for no reason.
Then grinned.
“I’m gonna pee. Don’t touch my stuff, nerd,” he said sweetly, hopping off the bed.
Soobin turned slightly in his chair. “Why would I?”
“You’re suspicious. You’ve got that soft villain look today.”
Yeonjun disappeared into the bathroom, leaving behind the glittery purple notebook—completely open—on the bed.
Soobin blinked.
The notebook was glowing. Taunting him. Radiating pink ink and chaotic omega energy.
He told himself not to look.
He absolutely looked.

OPERATION ALPHA CONFIDENCE: SECRET YEONJUN OBSERVATIONS
(with hearts, sparkles, and a doodle of Soobin in glasses)
— Soobin looks unfairly good in white. I’m suing.
— He keeps smelling better?? Cinnamon. Brainy. Alpha. Death.
— Why does his voice get deeper when he’s focused? I’m being personally attacked.
— His hands. HIS HANDS. They're big. And soft. And warm. And nice. When he adjusts his glasses?? I die. Every time.
— I want to sit in his lap again, but this time for reasons that are illegal in most libraries.
— I might be in love with him. Oops.
Soobin just sat there.
Staring.
Processing.
Then rereading the last line like it would change the third time.
…Oops?
YEONJUN "oopsed" falling in love with him?
Soobin’s brain short-circuited just as the bathroom door opened.
“I’m back—wait, where’s my—oh my GOD—NO—”
Yeonjun launched across the room like a panicked cat.
But it was too late.
Soobin was already standing, notebook in hand, looking criminally calm.
Their eyes locked.
Soobin smiled—soft, deadly, nerdy.
“So… I look good in white, huh?”
Yeonjun made a noise that can only be described as dying kettle meets deflating balloon.
“You were NOT supposed to read that!! That’s PRIVATE! It’s for... for strategic use only!!”
He lunged for the notebook, but Soobin held it just out of reach like a schoolteacher confiscating contraband.
“‘I might be in love with him. Oops,’” Soobin read dramatically. “Very scientific, Yeonjun.”
“I’m moving,” Yeonjun muttered, covering his face with both hands. “New school. New identity. New planet. I’m going to live in a tree.”
Soobin chuckled, finally lowering the notebook and gently placing it back on the bed. Then he reached out, carefully taking Yeonjun’s wrist to stop him from spinning off into orbit.
“Hey.”
Yeonjun peeked at him through his fingers. “…Are you gonna break my heart now?”
Soobin blinked. “What? No.”
Then he smiled. A little shy, but with a twinkle in his eyes.
“You wanna know what I wrote in my notebook?”
Yeonjun lowered his hands slowly. “…You have a notebook?”
“I’m literally a nerd. Of course I do.”
“…Okay, hit me.”
Soobin leaned in close, just enough to make Yeonjun go still.
“Observation One: Yeonjun is cute when he studies.
Observation Two: Yeonjun is cute when he’s mad.
Observation Three: Yeonjun is so pretty that if I were him, I'd die because of how pretty I am.
Observation Four: Yeonjun might be in love with me. And I might feel the same.”
Yeonjun froze.
Then slowly backed up and flopped face-first onto the bed with a loud "UUUGHHHHH.”
Soobin laughed, sitting beside him.
“I wore that white button-up yesterday,” he added casually, “because I saw you staring.”
Yeonjun shrieked into a pillow.
“You’re not supposed to know things!! You were supposed to stay flustered forever and let me win!!”
Soobin tilted his head. “So this was a competition?”
“It WAS, and now you’re getting too powerful, you cinnamon-scented menace!”
Soobin grinned and pulled Yeonjun into a hug from behind, arms snug around his waist.
“You started Operation Alpha Confidence,” he whispered against Yeonjun’s ear, “but you created a monster.”
Yeonjun turned his head slightly, cheeks red, lips twitching.
“…A hot monster.”
Soobin pressed his forehead to Yeonjun’s temple.
“So. Are we dating now? Or do I need to submit a glitter-covered proposal form?”
Yeonjun giggled and tapped his fingers on Soobin’s arm.
“Surprise me,” he whispered. “But just know—I’m stealing that notebook next.” Yeonjun’s voice was breathy, playful, but there was a softness under it. A quiet vulnerability that peeked through like sunlight under curtains.
Soobin didn’t answer at first.
He just smiled.
His arms were still wrapped around Yeonjun’s waist from behind, chin resting gently on Yeonjun’s shoulder, the steady rhythm of their breathing syncing in the hush of the room.
“I’ll let you take it,” Soobin said softly.
Yeonjun turned his head a little, enough to glance back at him with a teasing smirk. “Really?”
Soobin nodded. “It’s full of nerd stuff. Star charts. Calculations. Daydreams.”
Yeonjun raised an eyebrow. “Daydreams?”
“Yeah…” Soobin’s voice dipped. “Most of them are about you.”
Yeonjun blinked.
For once, he didn’t have a comeback. His mouth opened just a little—then closed again, his lashes fluttering as he turned around slowly in Soobin’s arms to face him fully.
They were so close. Just a breath apart. Knees brushing, hearts thudding, and time slowing.
Yeonjun’s voice was small now. “Tell me one?”
Soobin’s cheeks flushed pink, but he didn’t shy away. Not this time.
“There’s one where you’re sitting right here, on my lap” he murmured, “wearing my hoodie, glitter on your fingers, teasing me like you always do.”
Yeonjun tilted his head. “Mm-hmm?”
“And you say something ridiculous, like stealing my notebook,” Soobin continued with a shy smile, “and I stop being nervous, and I just…”
His voice trailed off.
Yeonjun’s lips parted, his breath catching. “And you just…?”
Soobin reached up, brushing a bit of hair away from Yeonjun’s cheek. His fingers were gentle, trembling just slightly, but full of care.
“And I kiss you,” Soobin whispered.
And then he did.
It wasn’t rushed.
It wasn’t dramatic.
It was the kind of kiss that came from holding back for weeks—from hallway glances, from lap-sharing study sessions, from scribbled thoughts hidden in notebooks and hearts alike.
It was soft.
Just lips brushing lips. Light. Careful. Meant.
Yeonjun made the tiniest sound—a soft inhale—and melted.
Soobin pulled back just slightly, eyes wide with unspoken question. “Was that… okay?”
Yeonjun opened his eyes slowly, dazed and glowing.
He blinked once.
Then pouted.
“I was gonna kiss you first, nerd.”
Soobin laughed, forehead leaning into Yeonjun’s. “You can still steal the next one.”
Yeonjun huffed. “I’m stealing the whole notebook and the next kiss.”
They both giggled, quiet and warm, still tucked in the little bubble of that perfect moment.
Soobin reached for Yeonjun’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“Then you better catch up,” he murmured, “because I think I’ve got a few more daydreams I want to turn into real memories.”
Yeonjun smiled so brightly it could’ve lit the whole room.
“Challenge accepted, cinnamon toast.”
