Yes, another one, thank you!

Chapter Text

Mother Earth called for a new way to a major mass extinction: an unstoppable virus. Human activity has drastically changed the planet's climate, melting the ice that caged a virus that ultimately leads to their end. Once the virus was freed, it travelled through the ocean, invading the seas and its inhabitants. The fishermen, who knew nothing, continued to fish. This was the humans' first contact with the virus.

"How exactly am I gonna fix this? Simple. I don't! I'm gonna find a base and live out my days with my family and maybe a guy that's exactly my type!" You exclaim to yourself, giggling as you write in your planner. You knew what would occur, where it would occur, who would be immune, and who would die. Except for the most important fact. Time. When would these things begin? Are you out of time? These are the things you thought about as you got yelled at by your mother for being late to school.

A few weeks ago...

Although you had just transmigrated into an alternate universe, it was easy to remain calm because of some things that didn't change in your life. Your family was still there, you still looked the same, and you didn't know everything. Ignorance is truly bliss. It remained like that for a week or two, believing you had gotten lucky to get transmigrated into an anime you dearly loved. But many strange things began to occur. You noticed that birds were disappearing, news outlets were beginning to talk about a virus, and you discovered that your family owned a bunker somewhere in town. It's truly strange for a fanfic to have a bunker for the MC to have... Unless she would be using it. You quickly pieced the information together, remembering the most recent fan-made book you read. Reader-insertion had become a true reality. Was it a dream or a nightmare?

Throughout that day, you pulled up many things from various news articles, notes, and memories. You wrote everything you could remember down, comparing it to the articles. And just as how you remembered it, the events went as the author wrote them. The days quickly passed as you researched endlessly. You knew that the volleyball clubs would be fine, forming their own groups and shelters. The main character would be the traveller who saves them all. Obviously, you didn't want to partake in such risky activities. You weren't the smart, dependable, determined heroine! You'd much rather do nothing, sit back, and wait. The research was all for you to do nothing about the future. Do everything now, relax later!

You pulled up the map, every school had been marked with their colors, every location of large outbreaks was flagged, and safe havens were flagged white. You thought up the most brilliant idea. Instead of a traveller, wouldn't letters do the same thing? They don't need someone with them, they just need knowledge! You clasped your hands together in a silent celebration.

Back to the present!

You sighed to yourself as you walked into class. The teacher ignored you, continuing on with his lesson. You kept your head down as you walked to your seat, deep in thought. How would you send everyone letters..? How are you so sure it'd arrive? You had to consider many things. What sounded like a foolproof, easy plan quickly turned into a plan that seems impossible. How would you even get there..? Wait.. The internet exists! You quickly lit up, obviously in a happy mood.

That is, until the teacher made Ushijima tap you on the shoulder. "Ms. L/n, since you want to come in late and proceed to ignore everything that comes out of my mouth, let's see how much you've learned. Since clearly, you think you know more than me. What is the mutation rate of a human cell?" Mr. Kitagawa asked, pointing at the board where a human cell was drawn. You were caught off guard, but still tried your best to answer. You looked at your unopened textbook, quickly opening it to attempt to find the answer. That is, until you noticed another textbook inching closer. You looked and there! The answer was right under Ushijima's finger.

"1.1 x 10^-8 per base pair per generation."

You quickly looked up at your teacher, an apologetic look on your face as you gave him a nervous smile. He responds with a sigh, knowing what happened and deciding to continue with his lesson. 'My king Ushijima, I'm taking you in.' You thought to yourself as you relaxed in your seat. You gave Ushijima a nod. "You a real one!" You whisper to him with a thumbs-up. He looked at you, confused, but still holding his usual stoic face.

"I'm real..?"

You quickly shook your head. "No.. I mean you're like.. a good friend." You whisper, trying to find the words to explain your slang. You looked at him with a troubled smile. Ushijima had long given up on trying to understand how slangs correlate to its real meaning. He gave a short nod, then went back to the lesson. You do the same, checking his page number first and flipping to the correct page.

'I hope I still have more time...'
