Dick wasn’t expecting his day to end on such a bad note. He was able to see his family, eat cereal without Alfred telling him no, and then went for patrol with Damian. They had a great time, and even got some ice cream during it. But of course, he can’t have nice things.
It was normal patrol for Nightwing and Robin, all things considered. There was no Gotham breakout to worry about, no big rouges out at the moment, and they took care of some common criminals.
Nightwing and Robin came to a stop on a dreary roof, looking down on the gray wear house that Oracle told them about, she had stated that there was just some suspicious activity there, but nothing dangerous. They had agreed to check it out, and now here they are looking at this wear house that is only illuminated by the shitty street light and the moonlight.
“Alright, let’s just look around the wear house that O told us about, then we will go back to the cave.” Nightwing suggested, feeling a bit tired from the lack of action tonight. Robin nods, moving to enter the wear house. Nightwing follows, keeping close to Robin just in case. They jump down to the ground from the fire escape, keeping to the shadows as they go.
“Nightwing, Robin, are you two seeing anything over there?,” Oracle questions through the ear piece, which caused Nightwing to take another look around now that they are on the ground. He noticed how much darker the place felt now that they are not up high. “You may need to go inside, do you need backup?”
“From who, Red Hood? We will be fine Oracle, but we shall keep you updated on our conditions just in case, Robin out.” Robin reported, trying to appease Oracle while still keeping his dignity. Nightwing smiles at him, clearly proud of how far he has come in the emotional department.
Nightwing signals for them to go in, and Robin nods in confirmation. Nightwing looks at the door, then tries the handle. It clicks open, surprising the two but regardless they open the door. Nothing seems to be wrong, there are a bunch of boxes, but that was expected.
They go in, deciding to keep in the shadows the best they can. But the second they get past the first row of boxes, they hear a scream. Taking to time to think, they rush over to the noise, and see something Nightwing would never expect.
“Happy Birthday Nightwing!” A cacophony of voices let out, surprising Dick, as he thought everyone forgot. Even the Titans were there, surprising Dick even more that Bruce let them come. Jason is also there, he even has his angsty look on his face that he has when trying not to smile.
