Summary:

Grian is a borrower who’s been secretly living on the Hermitcraft server for years, and one of his favourite sources of entertainment is following the Hermits around their daily lives.

How could that go wrong?

Work Text:

Tinier creatures are typically more durable than larger ones when it comes to falling.

Your hamster could leap from your 6’2 foot brother’s hands crash to the floor and run away with nothing more than a mild bruise and an attitude of spite.

Unlike if you took an equivalent fall from such a height many many of your bones would shatter or break.

Of course…

That logic doesn’t work for every tiny creature.

Borrowers were excluded from that type of of logic-
Smaller than a mouse or hamster but bone structure similar to that of a human. And with much larger obstacles in their way than your average Joe.

But did Grian care?

The answer was simply no.

Grian was a borrower who had been living on a server called Hermitcraft for a number of years now.
His coding was so small that it could barely be detected by the Server’s admin, a voidwalker named X-eye-suma-voi-add or ….. at least it was something like that.
Thankfully going undetected was what kept him alive in most cases.

Don’t get him wrong, Grian had watched the people of this server for years, they weren’t bad or malicious.
In fact many of them seemed very kind and fun-

But they were also a chaotic group, and Grian feared that in the excitement or frustration of finding out about his existence one could be accidentally careless and crush him-
Or grab him
Or mistake him for a bug and swat him
Or-…
Actually it was best not to think about it.

Grian was happy to them watch from a distance…. Well… kinda…

What Grian considered a distance and what your average borrower would consider a distance were two vastly different things.

One was from the safety of a far away viewing area-
And Grian’s was only a few blocks away from the person he was watching that day.

Today it was actually the Admin’s turn to be spied on-
his Aztec styled base was semi-difficult to navigate but Grian had been around enough in it’s early days and established enough pathways for himself to traverse around in.

Grian followed X-Eye-suma-voi-add around, watching him riffle through his chests or building materials or sketch out a design for a new redstone farm.

Nothing all that interesting but still a challenge-
Grian had to sprint and parkour across the base to keep up with the giant, that part was fun.

Up until he miss calculated the distance of one of his jumps.

And he fell.
Far.

And as he fell, he screamed - he couldn’t help it.
His life flashing before his eyes.

Then he hit the ground.
His legs shattered frist, and then followed the rest of his body.
Next was his other leg, then his shoulder hit next and his small body went tumbling across the overgrown cobble.

Sobs tore from Grian’s throat as the pain overwhelmed him.
His body was broken-
But he wasn’t dead???

How was that fair!???
Not that Grian had a death wish-
But Why did he live just to deal with this pain!

The borrower’s clouded vision darkened.

For a moment Grian thought maybe death was coming for him.
Only for that thought to be interrupted by a worried frantic voice echoing above him

“oh void, your really really hurt- shit, what can I- your so small! I’m, I’m going to help you don’t worry little guy-!”

The giant admin hovered over Grian, his worried hands moved carefully to scoop the borrower into his palm.

Grian cried out from the movement, but bit his tongue and reduced it to a small whimper.
As much as he wanted to protest
Wanted to hide.
He was likely to die either way.

So might as well right?

X-eye-suma-voi-add was still talking, holding his communicator and calling someone named- Kerrr-alis?

Grian couldn’t tell for sure.

His vision was getting fuzzier….darker…
It was harder to stay awake.

“Hang on little guy, help is on the way- please, don’t fall asleep!”

Grian wanted to listen.
He really did-

But-

Everything hurt

And sleep was so tempting….

“M’sorry…. Su-Ma-voi-d” Grian tried to apologize-
But his voice was too small and weak.
He doubted the admin would be able to hear him.

And with that-
He drifted off.

His life held within the hands of the giant, trusting that if anyone could mend his broken body-
It would be him.

Notes:

This one is short and a little angsty but dw Xisuma’s there I’m sure he’ll be fine.
