Chapter Text
Door is open in the bathroom, faucet running as the redhead woman splashes her face with some cold water. Letting out a shuddering sigh while leaning on the sink. She hated this, hated those times where seemingly out of nowhere that feeling came over her, thoughts filling her brain to the brim, and spilling out in a form of tears and urges she suppressed years back. And to Delia after crying those thoughts always seemed so stupid to cry over, that it was a waste of tears and “people have it worse”. This constant battle in her mind with “i can have emotions too and have every right to cry whenever” with “people have it worse, you don't deserve to self pity like that, even if you do it at night alone in your room”. Running a hand through her hair Delia turns off the faucet and walks back into the main living area. Still feeling off, feeling like she overreacted, giving the top of her thigh a scratch. In those moments Delia wanted to reach out, to ask for help or something but that fear of being a burden to people that were close to her, or people at all, stopped her. She always felt like she was going overboard and it wasn't that bad.
Reaching for the fridge she fished out a can of soda and a piece of leftover pizza from two days ago. Sitting at the table, chewing on her pizza and scrolling through socials to distract herself or just get back in line. Seeing Lydia online she stopped for a moment, thinking about texting her… she wanted to see her, but again, she was gonna be a burden is what she thought, so after changing the app she pulled a video essay on a random topic to be background noise for while she finishes her slice of pizza.
Just a hug, Delia wanted to hug someone, not just someone, but someone close, to feel appreciated, seen. Not just a short hug but a full on sitting and then transitioning to a cuddle. To feel wanted at least by someone. She couldn't remember the last time she felt that warm touch for a long period of time. After finishing her midnight snack Delia still didn't feel like going to sleep so pulling up sweatpants and her jacket she walked out for a walk to clear her mind. And to grab a pack of cigarettes at the nearest 24/7 store. It was a rather cold night for early autumn. Leaves crunching under her feet as she inhales that rainy smell. Walking into the small shop right by her apartment complex she grabs a lighter and makes her way to the cashier. After getting her cigarettes she walks out, lighting, one on, and is met with a familiar face. Lydia, all sleepy and in her house robe under her jacket. What is she doing at such a late time out?
-Hey! Lydia! - Delia says, waving her hand.
-Delia? - black haired woman looked at the redhead. - what are you doing here?
-Oh - Delia says, seeing Lydia approach, and notices she is walking her dog. Ahh that makes sense. - oh just… couldn't sleep and was out of smokes. Decided to go on a walk, maybe tire myself out enough to sleep hehe - she chuckles. She always felt that pleasant tingle around Lydia, those butterflies in her stomach. - what about you?
-oh, Count wanted to go for a walk. - Lydia says with a small yawn. “Adorable” Delia thought. Count was her small puppy she adopted recently, a small German pinscher puppy.
-And he woke you up in the middle of the night just to go pee on a tree, right? - Delia says with a small smoke, taking a puff from her smoke. Thank god it's dark, Delia thinks, Lydia wouldn't see her red after crying eyes and won't ask about that. When she was confronted with a question about her emotions she was always stuck, in stupor, and a simple genuine “are you okay?” could make her cry on the spot.
-heh yeah, and to run after a squirrel. - Lydia smiles.
After parting ways Delia felt a tad better, and more sleepy. Yawning as she opens the door to get one from the apartment. Undressing back and going into her bed to continue sleeping.
The morning wasn't pleasant. Just a few hours of sleep, waking up at the crack of dawn even on her day off. Laying back in the bed to try and get a free more sleep hours.
Lydia lived in a house near Delia, just a few hundred meters away. Seeing Delia that night in the middle of the night with a croaky voice like that made her kinda worried, so after waking up and waking Count, Lydia decided to grab some sweets and visit Delia. Knowing her tendencies she probably had a good idea what happened that night but didn't want to pry.
Sat in the kitchen Delia was making herself breakfast. Something easy, just a few fried eggs and a sausage. After finishing her food Delia sits down at the kitchen table to eat her breakfast, but she is interrupted by a knock on the door. With a sigh she gets up and walks up to the door. Looking into the peephole to see Lydia by her entrance. She tugs the door open and says.
-Hey, whatchu doing here? - Delia says, standing in the doorway still in her pajamas, looking at the woman in front of her.
-Was just- in the area, thought i’d visit.
-...you’re always in the area, we live a house apart. - Delia says, looking with a little suspicion at the woman in front of her.
-Yeah well… I mean. I brought some pastries. - Lydia says, knowing Delia didn’t like to be babied, well not openly at least.
-... Fine, come in, either way I don't have anything to do today. - She walks back into the kitchen to finish her breakfast. Lydia follows the woman into the kitchen and sits besides her, setting the back with fresh pastries onto the table. Looking at the redhead beside her.
-Just got outta bed? - Lydia asks as she looks at the woman shoveling food into her mouth.
-Mhhm - Delia nods. She doesn’t offer coffee, knowing Lydia would do her own as they were that close. Constantly over at each other’s place. And so the blackhaired woman stood up and went to the coffee machine to make two cups while Delia finished her breakfast. Delia was thankful for that. She really did need some company. After Delia set her plate into the dishwasher two cups of steaming coffee were ready. Both women sat at the kitchen table, drinking coffee with pastries in silence, only occasional thump from the neighbours can be heard. It wasn’t a tense silence, it was comfortable and soothing.
-Wanna watch a movie after? i got some popcorn - Delia says, looking at the woman. They wanted to watch this new movie that came out a few days ago, it was something of a horror comedy.
-Oh yeah sure. I have nothing going on for me. Well except Count but he is at the apartment with my roommate. - Lydia says with a small smile.
After finishing the drinks they went into the room, Delia made the bed while Lydia set up netflix with the movie and microwaved popcorn. Settling on the folded couch and chewing popcorn the atmosphere became even more lighthearted. The movie did bring comfort to Delia, and having Lydia nearby. At around 30 minutes into the movie, after the popcorn was done Delia moved a tad closer. It was a nonverbal way to ask for something closer, to be held. And Lydia for sure knew that. Wrapping her hand around the red haired woman she let her cuddle up to her. Delia happily obliged and laid her head on Lydia’s shoulder, draping an arm over her midsection.
-Did you not sleep well last nigh?
Delia mumbles with a nod.
-Do you wanna talk about it?
With that Delia shakes her head. With a sigh Lydia tucks a stray hair behind her ear and presses a sweet kiss to Delia’s forehead.
-Okay then. As you wish my princess.
-I’m not a princess - Delia says, giving Lydia’s stomach a small slap. Letting out a giggle at that the black haired woman ruffles the other’s head, saying.
-Sure sure, whatever you say. - she rolls her eyes and gives Delia’s side a squeeze. The woman on top pouts and grumbles. Looking back at the TV.
