Amity sighed as she pulled out her 5th batch of cookies. They looked edible this time, but she could tell that they were as hard as bricks. She placed the pan on the counter, adding to the pile.
“Hey sis! May I have one?” Edric asked, pointing to the sweets.
“Yeah. They’re still hot.”
Edric grabbed one and took a bite. “Hm. These aren’t burnt, but I preferred the ones that were still melty.”
Amity looked at her brother. “Helpful.”
“Anytime!” He shouted, leaving the kitchen.
Amity rested her head up against the wall. Luz had her first exam the next day, and Amity was trying her best to create some snacks as a surprise. Odalia was the only one in the family who knew how to cook, and usually that job would be passed onto the abominations.
“I’m home!” Emira announced, coming into the kitchen. “Hey. What’s with all the cookies?”
“I’m trying to bake for Luz. Apparently I’m hopeless.”
Emira looked around, gathering the burnt cookies to toss in the bin. “Are these human realm cookies?”
“They're abomination’s delights, but I switched out a few ingredients, Eda said that they should still turn out fine.”
“Clearly she overestimated your baking ability.”
Amity turned her head to glare at her sister.
“Can’t say I’m wrong.” She trashed the failed attempts, “I think I remember the recipe Mom, sorry, Odalia taught me.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I actually might have it in my notebook, I’ll be right back.”
The next day, Amity waited outside the Owl House, holding a bag of cookies. Luz came through the portal.
“Amity! Hi!”
“Hey. I brought you something.”
Luz took the bag and tried one of the cookies. “These are amazing! Did you make them?”
“Yeah. Well, I had some help.”
“Thank you! I’m so lucky to have an awesome girlfriend like you!”
