Work Text:

"I told you-!"

"Doctor please, no lectures right now." Rose groaned, as she rubbed her head. Her head was banging with flashes of pain. She was reckless, sure. He told her to not touch that mysterious giant alien flower, and what did she do? Well, she touched it.

Now she's in her bed after The Doctor poked and proded her in the med bay, looking for any abnormalities that would be worrisome as he ranted at her for being so reckless. He was a hypocrite but she didn't have the energy to argue right now.

The Doctor grumbled as he took her temperature for the thousandth time again, giving the device a harsh stare.

"I'm fine, Doctor."

She wasn't lying really, it felt like she had the flu but nothing more serious than that.

"You don't know that." He mumbled, focused on the device.

"I just have the flu."

He finally met her eyes, she could see the worry in his harsh blue eyes. Rose started to feel guilty, making her Doctor worry about her like this.

"You're human. Humans aren't known for their amazing immune systems. Especially 21 century humans, you are primitive compared."

"Wow, thanks," Rose rolled her eyes.

"This isn't funny, Rose." He huffed, she could tell he was just nervous.

"Hey," she placed her hand over his, "I'm okay, Doctor. I just need some sleep and maybe something for the headache." She smiled reassuringly at him, giving his hand a squeeze.

Something clicked in his head, she could see it.

"Maybe I know just what you need." He stood up and went to the door before shooting Rose a look, "and no getting up."

Then he left her, she hated making him take care of her. Rose just couldn't help jumping in to help when she could, being human meant that it was dangerous. She didn't care though, anything to help people. To help her Doctor.

Rose crinkled the covers in her hands, her Doctor. Her leather covered Doctor. A man she would risk the universe for.

It wasn't long until the Doctor came through the door with a bowl in his hand.

Rose sat up in her bed, confused by what was in his hands. He sat on the edge of her bed with the bowl and a spoon.

"It's a bit hot, be careful."

He handed it to her. Rose looked down at the bowl, it was some kind of soup it was a yellowish color. She looked up at Doctor with hesitation, he nodded, reassuring her silently.

Rose sighed and took the spoon, taking a sip of it. Her eyes widened, "is this.. chicken soup?"

"Sorta. It isn't chicken, its an old recipe. It'll help."

"Is it from your people? The timelords?" Rose asked, causing him to look away.

"It'll get the job done and that's what matters." He stood up but Rose caught his arm.

"Doctor, please don't leave."

The look on her face must've twisted his hearts because he obeyed, sitting back down. Rose didn't want to be alone, she wanted her Doctor.

She scooted over and patted the spot beside her.

The man look at her, hesitating, not sure.

Rose nodded with a soft smile, the smile she knew he couldn't resist.

He sighed and sat beside her follow, laying next to her with his back against the headboard.

Rose was happy to have him and she finished her soup in comfortable silence with him.

He was staring, she knew.

Rose placed the bowl on the end table and turned to her leather Doctor.

"Thank you." She mumbled sleepily.

He nodded, "'course."

Rose scooted down to lay fully on the bed, keeping herself close to him. She placed her hand on his, asking for silent permission.

He allowed her to intertwine their hands together, she smiled and closed her eyes, allowing herself to drift off peacefully.
