Chapter 1: Skateboards & Glances

Chapter Text

Padmé woke up peacefully and on time. It was the last week of school before summer break, and she was more than excited. She was ecstatic!

Anakin woke up, rushed harshly by his loud alarm clock his foster father had gotten him because he was always late to school. Today it started — only one more week of hell before summer break — and he was more than excited. He was STOKED!!!

Padmé got up, stretching, then getting out of bed and choosing an outfit from her big closet, picking a baby pink lace-trim top and a black skirt. She had a rough time deciding if she wanted to wear heels or flats. She hummed, choosing flats because she wanted to be more comfortable today. This was her idea of a lazy day outfit — not very fond of wearing sweatpants. She always had to look her best. She brushed out her hair, put on a bit of makeup, and went downstairs.

Anakin rolled out of bed, falling and grunting when he hit the floor. “Ow!” he groaned, getting up and picking a pair of black jeans and a grey skull t-shirt from the floor and putting those on. He still had his eyeliner from last night’s underground concert on — it now all smudged. He just put some on top of it, not even bothering to take the old eyeliner off. He combed his hair with his fingers before realizing he also needed to put on some deodorant. After he did that, he went downstairs.

“Morning, Mum. Morning, Dad,” Padmé greeted her parents, sitting down at the breakfast table, there being plenty of breakfast on the table.
“Morning, sweetie!” her parents greeted back in sync.
“Coffee?” Padmé’s mom asked.
“Yes, please,” she smiled.

Anakin rushed down the stairs, skipping a few steps.
“No rush. You’re on time for once,” his foster father said, sipping his coffee.
“And no, you’re not getting any caffeine when I know damn well you’re hungover.”
Anakin groaned, taking a piece of toast out of the toaster, spreading some strawberry on it and going down the hall to get his backpack and skateboard.
“Did you make sure to pack a pencil this time?” his foster father asked.
“It’s not like they care, it’s the last week,” he replied.
Before his foster father could say anything, Anakin was out the door.

Padmé finished her pancakes and coffee on time.
“Oh, I have to go or else I’ll be late,” she excused herself, getting up from her seat and heading to the hallway.
“Bye, Mom. Bye, Dad!”
“Bye, sweetie!” her mom replied.
“Have a nice day!” her dad added.
Padmé went outside, and her chauffeur was already waiting for her.

Anakin kicked his foot off the floor hard. He had been too focused on doing kickflips than actually skating to school, so now he was, once again, late. He recklessly skated onto roads, almost getting hit by some jock’s car... oh shit, that was Padmé’s chauffeur.
“My apologies, mister!” he apologized with a salute, skating away.
Padmé recognized the boy — Anakin from her maths class and many other classes — quietly giggling to herself.

Anakin opened his locker, almost sticking his head inside when he saw Padmé walking down the hall and also going to her locker, which just happened to be a couple lockers away.
Padmé obviously kept staring at him, giggling. He took a small peek, giving her a small smile.
Padmé smiled back, her friends suddenly appearing behind her, her getting distracted.
Anakin took that as a sign to take his English book, put his skateboard in his locker, and leave as fast as he could.
