Work Text:

As I walked down the street to the corner, I saw something out of my peripherals. It was a flag. When I saw the solid bars of each visible spectrum color, I knew immediately what would probably occur next.
I was right.
A few days later I walked down the same street and saw what remained of the flag. Its edges burned away and singed to an ugly black-brown color. I knew exactly who had committed the act. I went to his house, knocking briskly on the door, knowing he’d answer.
“Hey, how’s it going?” he exclaimed as he opened the door to my slightly irritated expression. He always acted like this around me; I never knew why, since I’m not interested in him, I’m not interested in guys at all.
“David, why’d you burn the flag on 4th Street? The pride flag?” I questioned him, my tone flaring at him slightly. That got his attention, I could tell by how he reacted when I said ‘pride.’
“Do you really think I did it?” David asked me, as if a question would answer mine, “Yeah, just because I don’t like the Community doesn’t mean I’d hurt them!” I took a step towards him. He doesn’t know I’m in the Community, I don’t think he needs to know, it’ll ruin what he thinks we have.
“David, I know you did it, I’ve seen and heard what you’ve said about the Community,” I continued confronting him as I pulled out my phone and bring up his social media page, “you’ve said, and I quote: ‘If I see another effing Pride flag, I swear to god I’ll light it up like a candle. That ‘oughta show them they can’t be themselves in MY city.’ Do you have anything to say for yourself?”
“Just because I said something about it doesn’t mean I’d do it, Krys, you know that!” David gave me the look he always gives me when he wants me to give in to his little stunts, trying to make me swoon for him. It’s wasn’t going to happen, “I’m an Influencer of the People! It could’ve been someone who read my message and followed through!” I knew that that’s a heaping mass of lies he can’t hold up for long. I took a step closer to him, trying to sweat the truth out of him. He’s wasn’t usually this bold, maybe it was that time of the month for him.
“Well, David,” I looked into his cold, one-sided-lovestruck eyes, running my fingers along his bicep, “if you didn’t do it, which one of your ‘followers’ did?” I took another step closer, preparing myself to topple him if he makes any moves. His face flushed deep, as I never allowed him to be as close to me as I was then. That was what he wanted, but I was smarter than him. As he went in to kiss me, I swung my leg around and hit him on the side of his left leg, right above his knee. He dropped to the floor, spewing swears as he failed to endure the pain.
“I think it’d be good to mention now, I’m not into guys, David, I like women,” I said as I took a large step back, setting ample space between us in case he were to try and make me fall, “I never loved you. You’re heartless, remorseless, and quite a few other words that I’d love to say, but I’m not going to give you the satisfaction of hearing me swear.” I turned and began to walk out before he confessed.
“Krys-- Fine.. I burnt the flag, but don’t tell the Authorities, please. My image is too valuable to have controversy like this!” David plead. I stopped and side eyed him. He was still on the floor, trying to look at my body one final time.
My curves were never his, and I never truly shown off my curves unless I were with my girl friends, trying to show them what I’ve been up to, trying to keep my form nice. Otherwise, I was usually seen in a pullover a size or two larger than I needed, and fashionable sweatpants, baggy enough to conceal my slender, well muscled legs. I don’t like being seen as a female, since then I would be getting asked out by every guy at school, but I’m not masculine enough to be considered a male or even a transgender male.
I slammed the door and walked away. I planned to never come back, no matter how much David begs. I know what he really wanted out of me and I never gave it, and I knew that he’d spread the word of how much of a ‘tease’ I was, preparing everyone to torment me. This sure is going to be fun, I thought to myself as I walked into my apartment.
“Krys! Welcome back!” My roommate, Katlyn, exclaimed as she hugged me in the doorframe. Katlyn was about a head shorter than me, but she’s the most adorable person I could’ve ever met. The way she hugged me showed just how much she cared about me. My face reddened. Really, I thought, you do this now?
“Everything alright?” Katlyn looked up at me with a face I couldn’t even describe how cute it was. All I could do was nod slowly and pick her up, putting my lips on hers and hold her there for a while. I put her down, noticing how red her face had become from the kiss.
“Uh.. K.. Krys..?” She stuttered, “Can we do that again..?” I nodded and kissed her again. This time, Katlyn wrapped her arms around me and kept me in the kiss. I wrapped my arms around hers and drew a heart along her back with my fingers.
