Say I Do

Summary:

Finally after taking the scenic route and stopping to smell all the roses, Buck and Eddie tie the knot

Work Text:

It was a perfect day.

Not because everything went off without a hitch — it didn’t. The flowers arrived late, Buck tore a hole in his shirt trying to iron it himself even though Eddie had told him not to, and Chim dropped the rings twice before the ceremony even started.

But none of that mattered.

Because Buck stood at the end of the aisle in a small garden just outside the city, sunlight catching in his hair, smile as wide as the sky, and Eddie looked at him like he was the only person in the world.
And maybe he was.

Christopher walked between them, the ring bearer and best man wrapped in one — cheeks pink with pride, suit slightly wrinkled, holding both their rings in the same tiny box.

“You sure about this?” he whispered to Buck before stepping aside.

Buck winked. “Only waited a decade.”

Their friends and family filled the chairs — Maddie dabbing her eyes while bouncing an eight month old Daniel in her lap, beside Athena, Hen gripping Karen’s hand with a proud smile, Chim standing beside him and a squirming Jee-Yun who had already decided this was too many speeches sitting in the first row with her empty flower basket in tow, and Ravi waving enthusiastically from the back row with a camera.

Bobby stood in front of them — officiating, because of course he did. Because who else could possibly speak for them, guide them, bless this moment the way only he could?

He looked between them and said, voice rough, “You two… took the scenic route. But the best things in life usually do.”

There was laughter. And a few sniffles.

Then the vows.

Eddie went first. His voice was steady, but his hands trembled slightly.

“Buck… Evan… you’ve been my best friend, my partner, my safe place. You came into my life when I didn’t even know I needed saving — and you stayed when you didn’t have to. You love me and my son with your whole heart, and somehow, that’s just who you are. I promise to love you with everything I have, for the rest of our lives. To choose you, every day. To laugh with you, grow with you, and annoy you until we’re old and gray.”

Buck was already crying.

Then his turn.

“Eddie… I used to think I didn’t know how to belong. That I was too much, too loud, too everything. But then you came along, and without ever asking me to change, you made me feel like I was exactly right. With you, I found home. With you and Christopher, I found a family I didn’t think I’d ever have. I promise to love you, fiercely and completely, even on the days I drive you crazy. Especially on those days.”

Eddie wiped his eyes and laughed, quiet and full.

Bobby cleared his throat. “By the power vested in me — and long overdue — I now pronounce you husbands.”

“You may kiss your husband,” Chim called out, grinning.

They did.

The crowd exploded in cheers.

Later, under the soft light of strung-up lanterns, Buck and Eddie danced their first dance — barefoot on the grass, arms wrapped around each other like no one else existed.

Christopher sat between Maddie and Athena, watching them with a grin on his face that was all pride and told you so.

“You okay?” Maddie asked, nudging him gently.

“Yeah,” he said. “They’re good. Really good.”

And they were.

Because for all the heartbreak, the detours, the years of missed timing and quiet longing — they’d found each other. Chosen each other. Again and again.

As the night went on and the stars came out, Buck leaned into Eddie’s shoulder and whispered:

“Still think we should’ve just eloped.”
Eddie snorted. “Don’t even start.”

Buck grinned. “Fine. But I’m still calling dibs on the honeymoon playlist.”

Eddie kissed him softly. “It’s already made. Started it the day I met you.”
