A streamer who lives in Alto Mare prepares to stream for the first time in a few months after having ben out of action due to illness. They plan to stream a new game for them live and blind, but as they settle in, some questions are asked which leave answers being doscovered. Answers which at no point would upset or annoy anyone or reveal the truth about one's living situation at all. Ever. Promice.

So, I will admit that I’ve been moving away from writing fics due to the fact that my motivation for them quickly runs dry, but recently, Saphroneth posted their newest short snippet for one of their fics, which involved a bunch of Ashes, Pikachus and Latias from various stories of theirs meeting each other. Now, during this, I was helping someone out with saying which Latias is from which story, and the only Latias not directly given a title or name being the one from Legendary Popular - which, Saph eventually confirmed on the COAL discord server that “LP Latias is, of course, Gamer Latias”

This led to someone mistaking LP for Let’s Play, which led to another member on the server picturing a Latias livestreaming. And, having read the one-shot known as “Foxxiphobia” on AO3 where a streamer turns out to be raised by a Zoroark, I decided to do my own take on the concept.

And so, here it is: The Delta Zone. A quick one-shot in transcript form, whith I wrote over about 90 minutes.

Work Text:

Streamer: Welcome, welcome, welcome one and all, to the Delta Zone. Good morning to those of you in Kalos and Galar; good evening to all of you also living in the Home Islands; and for those of you tuning in from Orre and Unova… Well, if you want to be up this late to watch me stream, you’re clearly a Noctowl like I can be at times!

The chat scrolls a bit as viewers can’t wait to see what’s going to be happening in this stream.

Streamer: As you all should know, unless you’re new to the stream - if you are, then hey. I’m Aurora, and I’m live here in beautiful Alto Mare, an island city just off of the Johtoian coastline which I call home. I mainly stream games such as Marril Kart and Aura Fighters Z , but sometimes I do reaction videos and the like.

The chat scrolls more, with one viewer asking about the recent World Masters Tournament

Streamer: Ah, yeah… I was hoping to stream my reactions to the finals, but I had a bit of a cold, and mom basically went overprotective and wouldn’t let me stream until I felt better. Hence why I was only able to start streaming again tonight.

The chat offers their condolences and hopes the streamer is feeling better.

Streamer: Yeah, I’m feeling well enough to play, and today I finally will be able to play the hit game that I’ve heard a lot of buzz about, Blue Prince . Now let me just…

The streamer goes to start the game, only to groan and shake their head.

Streamer: Oh great, I forgot the big update was this morning… Well, guess while I wait for the game to update, I might as well use this time to answer some questions from that chat.

The chat is then filled with questions, some of which are silly and cause the streamer to chuckle as they read them, before they read a certain one out loud.

Streamer: So, LeonFanboy84 has asked if I knew about what happened about twenty five years ago here… Well, I was very young back then, but I do know about the Alto Mare Incident, as people had called it. Yes, it sounds like the future World Monarch had come here for his birthday, and apparently it was ruined by two thieves who attempted to use the DMA - that’s the Defense Mechanism of Altomare - for some no-good deeds. There had been rumors the duo were connected to Team Rocket, but I do remember that press announcement last year, where the ex-Gym Leader of Viridian City, Giovanni, admitted he was the leader of Team Rocket, but after a certain incident, he decided to disband the group and turn himself in. He had been asked if the duo involved with the Alto Mare Incident were members, but Gio denied it, saying that he would had never approved of their actions if they were part of Team Rocket.

The chat scrolls a bit, some people remarking that they already knew that.

Streamer: Anyways, most of that I only know second-hand, because I only came here about… I think it was a few years after the Incident? I was still a young child though, but I was glad mom was the one who adopted me and brought me here. Although I will admit that sometimes I get her confused with her twin sister. You know Bianca, the talented artist? Mom looks much like the spitting image of her…

Someone in the chat then asked a certain question.

Streamer: …You know, that is a good point. I’m surprised that mom adopted me while she was in her teens, given that she adopted me when she was sixteen or seventeen - then again, I’ve never asked mom what her birth year is. It just never came up.

Another question is asked towards the streamer.

Streamer: Does mom know I stream? She sure does - she sometimes even helps out setting up my setup for when I need to upgrade my hardware. Heck, I swear she’s also a good gamer, and only doesn’t want to join in because she knows she can beat me in Marril Kart World with one hand behind her back! (The streamer laughs at this.) Not to mention she’s currently out right now, doing… Whatever she does in the evenings. Not to mention that…

The streamer then realises something, and mutes their mic for a moment. They then facepalm, and while the stream doesn’t pick up what they were saying, it was clear that they were using language that they wouldn’t want heard on the stream. But then they shake their head and unmute the microphone.

Streamer: …Sorry about that, I just remembered that today was the anniversary of the Incident. No wonder mom has been… Well, from what I know, she had a friend who died during the incident, but the death seemed to had never been reported…

The streamer sighed, before perking up.

Streamer: Oh, by the way, you’d never guess what I found a few days ago. Even though I’ve never had a chance to be a Trainer - mom has always told me using Home Island Sign Language that it’s too dangerous for me to go out on a journey - I found these two Eggs!

The streamer shows off two egg incubators, each of which was holding an Egg. Both were mostly white, but with a delta on them - one being a red delta, the other a blue delta.

Streamer: From what little I’ve been able to find out, it’s possibly likely that these Eggs are of the species which are said to be the guardians of Alto Mare - Latias and Latios. And I’ve been reading up a bit about them - it says here that they’re known as the Eon Duo, that they have a natural affinity for illusions almost on par with Zoroarks, and that…

The streamer then blinks as they read something, before looking at their top, then back to the computer.

Streamer: …Uh… I think I’m going to call for an early break now, as I… I need to go and answer nature’s call, along with some other things. I should be back within an hour though, and by then I should be ready to stream Blue Prince for you all. So I’ll see you guys then.

The stream then cuts to a montage video for the Delta Zone channel, and would remain that way for about the next fifty minutes. Eventually though, the stream starts up again, and the streamer looks a bit… Shocked would be an understatement.

Streamer: Hey, sorry for the delay, but… Well, the game’s updated, so let’s go and play some…

Someone in the chat decides to ask something, but the message is quickly removed by a mod as the streamer groans.

Streamer: …I don’t want to talk about it right now. So I’m invoking an extension to the no politics rule to include no asking about my current living situation. All you need to know is that it’s… Complicated.

The streamer then mutters something under his breath, their "Thanks, Mom" not picked up by the microphone , before they load up the game and started to stream it live.
