Chapter 1: Ravioli

Chapter Text

Caroni sped-walked once he was dismissed for a second time; the movement softened the sea of nausea, however, it did not weaken the migraine present above his right eye. The smell of stale bacon had faded and the clicking of leather heels from the student body filled the void. His own clicking halted abruptly; Jerry Renault was in front of him, two or three feet away. He had just succumbed to Brother Leon’s blackmail, and what was gotten out of the blackmail was standing right in front of him, talking about homeroom as well as the September heat.

The waves of sickness began to crash once more against the walls of Caroni’s stomach. His eyes widened slightly as Jerry continued to carry on with the conversation. Had Jerry somehow overheard that Caroni and Brother Leon were discussing the other and his lack of sales towards the chocolates? Like some sort of spy or detective taking over an international case. No, of course not. He was simply blowing up the situation; but why would Jerry of all people attempt to talk to Caroni out of anyone from their homeroom class?

“Are you alright?” Jerry said, his brows furrowed together with curiosity; his head tilting to his left, closely resembling a chicken cocking its head when a farmer comes by without a basket nor feed. Caroni felt oddly intimidated; football players do that to you. They were sweaty and had more muscle mass compared to himself. Sure, Jerry Renault was on the slimmer side, but he was still a football player. To Caroni’s knowledge, Renault could very much pummel fists across his face for ratting him out to Brother Leon. But wouldn’t he understand that he fell for blackmail and pressure just as he had with the Vigils?

Upon Caroni’s lack of response, Jerry crooned quickly before his face turned to one of awkwardness and pulled his feet away from Caroni; a bit upset that his attempt at conversation was shot down.
